Just a quick note : I used drywall compound and glue for filling the holes only because COVID-19 pandemic had recently started so no stores were open! It’s always preferable to use wood filler if you can 😉. I replaced the veneer cracks which were pretty shallow so it’s fine but for a better choice look for wood filler especially for filling large holes and drawer pulls. 💙💙

The Reclaimed Heirloom Always look forward to your videos - I’m going to get some clear glaze & do a little enhancement to some pieces I have already painted - we don’t live in a remote area, but it’s not a huge city, either - no children at home for me either 😊 I really can’t imagine what parents had to go through during all this - I think Florida will definitely be resuming school at the regular time, so hopefully, everyone can get back to normal soon -

Well, this has to go towards the top of my "favorite Christina projects" list. Seriously impressive! Your work is phenomenal, as usual. It reminds me of my great-grandmother. She took an old (really old!) dresser and cut the middle out to use the side as end tables. She "white washed" them, as she did everything in her home. I'm not even sure what white-washing is but it was beautiful. :)

I loved your saltwash video. Would love to redo our fireplace mantel and hearth with a saltwash. Have it painted currently with one coat of Old Ochre just to see if we like it lighter. The old fireplace color was orangish oak which had to go. I would love to incorporate texture and warmth to the fireplace. Believe the saltwash, dark wax and other Annie Sloan colors would be the ticket to this project. Can you recomend AS colors to add to the Old Ochre? Our tile surrond has tans and grays. The Old Ochre is lighter than the tile right now. Love your work and your calm demeanor.

Andrea Mark ... thank you 🙏 so much Andrea for your thoughtful comment and feedback! As for your project it sounds like it going to be gorgeous! My recommendation for your fireplace is maybe think about adding blends of coco and old white and Graphite, the graphite will actually blend more as a grey tone with your other colour tones and to create the textures by doing in colour washes! Try a small corner area first and see which colours you like best with the room but going with the colour wash blending will definitely give a beautiful stone/ brick to concrete look making it very natural to the eye. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime 😉🎨

Regeina Goodrich ... thank you so much for your kind comment Regeina 🙏🎨 Yes the table tops will need at least 24 hrs to dry with the dark wax finish. Lucy Sepulveda ... Thank you so much Lucy for your kind comment and subscribing to the channel 🙏💙 So the wax is applied on once everything this completely dry. Using Saltwash will dry the paint even faster than normal because of the salt! It absorbs the moisture in the paint quickly The videos are edited to speed up to the point so that can look like I went from once point to the next without dry time lol 😂 Thanks again for your thoughtful comment 🤗🎨

So beautiful!, Christina!! I was wondering if the clear matte lacquer paint can be used on top of wax to give a more protective finish for a tabletop that will be used for putting glasses and drinks on...I love the effect that the brown and black wax give to that top!
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏❤️ so much Nanette for you kind words and comment. I don't recommend using lacquer after wax only before wax! If you want to apply lacquer to an already painted and wax piece I just recommend giving a light sanding with a very fine grid sand paper to remove the was top coat and then you can go ahead and apply a lacquer finish. Lacquer is best for highly used pieces like kitchen table tops or any table tops with higher traffic use. Hope this helps ☺️💕

Very excellent tutorials, and beautiful work- Thank you! I have a question regarding the wax- do you wipe off the excess after applying with the brush, or is the application so thin that this isn' t needed?
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 жыл бұрын
peggy Bell ... thank you so much for your kind comment Peggy🙏💙 I generally apply the wax pretty thin but having the clear wax can always help if you have a clean lint free cloth on hand if you feel you want to take off some! Always start a small area and this way you can gage how much you want and continue on with other parts of your project. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime 🤗🎨💙

So, the Salt Wash is only an additive to thicken the paint, not like using salt for watercolor? I'm curious ... what would happen if you added water instead of paint to thin/smooth? Does the salt wash change the next layers if you add more water? Have you tried that?

April Degele ... I just recently tried adding the Saltwash to the smooth paint I recently blended and works beautifully! It’s on my most recent video, I have been experimenting with textures and techniques and that’s the fun of painting, step out of the usual and see what else you can create 😉💙🎨

Again another beautiful creation!! I do have a question about the glaze-: do you use it in a separate container and then put the extender in it and how to you store your glaze in the original can? Do you hammer on the sides of the original container so it is tightly sealed for the next time you want to use it? Also, since I can’t remember the person or video I watched I will ask you this question: have you ever used hemp oil for any of your furniture projects and if so what is the purpose of the hemp oil? I make soap using the lye method and I have tons of hemp oil, so if it serves a good purpose I definitely have a lot I could use. Sorry to keep asking questions but I just thought of one more. I know that it some of the brands of waxes out there have beeswax in them. I also make candels and have tons of beeswax. Do you know anything about making some of your own sealing waxes and if so if they work well? I can find a lot of information on the subject and when I research there are so many different options on how to make your own wax. I am just looking to save some money and be able to use some of the products I do have. It’s ok if you can’t answer all of my questions. I know you also have a day job and you are busy!! Thanks again for your awesome videos!! Take care, Drue❤️😊🌻🐾🐕‍🦺🐝

Penell E ... thank you so much for your thoughtful comment 🙏🎨 Saltwash is a super fun texture medium and I plan to do a few different techniques with Saltwash and up coming tutorials. Taking drawers out is great 👍🏻 but the reason I sometimes leave them in so I can blend the frame and the drawer colours to match. I like taking them out so I can paint the frame straight and tidy then place them back once there dry. For blending colours I need the drawer front so it matches the frame 😉🎨

Do you have any problems with wood bleed through or do any preparation for wood bleed through?
@TheReclaimedHeirloom
@TheReclaimedHeirloom 4 жыл бұрын
Sword of the Spirit ... a couple of answers with your question! Using a texture medium like Saltwash no bleed through issues at all!! If I am doing a chalk paint finish with lots of blending and no texture, preparation of the wood is important because you are using water! If I create textures with chalk paint and use the clear glaze to blend , I have never had any issues at all with bleed through. So the final answer to your question is it all depends on the type of finish you are doing. I always clean my furniture pieces with TSP (use any good wood cleaning product) and a tablespoon of bleach. If a piece is really worn and tons of old varnishes I recommend a good primer application first before you start your chalk paint decorative finish. Hope this helps ! 🎨💙

Hi thanks for the awesome videos! Need your help. I have tried blending and it’s always so hard. I am super excited of the idea of blending without spraying my piece and getting water spots. So I went to Sherwin Williams and asked them about a “water base glaze” the guy tells me about their brand and it’s called “Faux Impressions glaze” latex finish, he said latex is water base, is that right? Not sure if he was just trying to sell me the can?

Hi Lulu! Thanks for reaching out! I have not used that type of glaze brand before as it is not sold where I live but he is right that latex can come in water based so it should work. In my KZbin video description, for my latest video you will see it will have a link to my amazon store which has a glaze section which has glaze from General finishes and a Benjamin Moore brand Glaze that I have used. Maybe you can show him the two types just to confirm. ❤️🙏🎨

If I can’t get any of those waxes you have, does the shoewax work, or it’s a big NO-NO to use them?

Hi Andrea! Thanks for subscribing! I have not tried shoe wax not a bad thought but I don’t know 🤷‍♀️. But you got me thinking 🤔! Not sure where you are located but if you go to my KZbin video description you can see a link that will take you to my amazon store that have a few waxes I have used in my projects. If you can find just clear wax from any of your local stores you can mix any kind a paint and make any other color wax (dark, black, white etc.) I have a few wax tutorials in my channel list that you can take a look on how I mixed the paint into the wax. A place you can get wax also is hobby lobby in the USA. 💕🙏🎨

What is the Golden brown color?

Tammy Hollingsworth ... the brown colour I used to blend with was Honfleur mixed with a little orange and white ( just a tiny amount) to soften the brown tone and blending it with the Paris Grey made a super soften tone 😉💙

I don't like the salt wash effect. I like all the others. Salt wash is heavy and bulkier.
