So happy you’re feeling better! It’s so important to listen to your body and to have boundaries in place. I ended up with burnout syndrome about four years into my teaching career. Although I wish I wouldn’t have had that experience it also taught me a lot about work life balance, boundaries etc.

Horses are the best for mental health. Glad you're feeling better! You seriously have my dream life and I often wish I could be more like you, but I also know I'm nowhere near as resilient or academically successful so I gotta work with what I have, haha! And right now that is taking on a second job so I can afford riding lessons again. Thanks for giving me the final push to do it with this video :) And thanks for being an inspiration and a reality check for what academic work is like, from a usually silent viewer. Side note: I love when you talk about specific work or books!

It's so great to see you enjoying your hobby and recovering! The whole "everything I do has either to do with my current and future income" is so real for many PhD students (including myself). Pursuing ones hobbies is so important, both to prevent burnouts and to heal after having one. You go girl

That makes sense about doing that method for task switches, i use a timer differently but have never actually tried the palmodoro (spelling lol). I should try it for when I have lots of different things to do

We use it for the accepted society workshops and I think it works quite well. However, for writing sessions, I prefer the flow method.

Glad to see you feeling better. One thing I've learned is to get away from the "on track/off track" mindset because there is implication there that life is supposed to always be positive and "on track" ... it's all ONE track. No matter your efforts, drive, preparation... life will get messy and uninspiring. That's where the good habits and long term and short term goals kick in. Stay with it 👌🥳💪

when you say you ride horses for free... is that just because of your experience you get to act as a trainer of sorts? like giving the horses their excercise? i used to ride myself, though never progressed much or competed, mostly due to my uncureable spagetti legs((

Hey! I’m currently completing my BA in History and I was wondering (one history major to another) whether you feel finding a job in our field is possible? I’ve heard it’s insanely competitive. I know for sure I’ll be pursuing my PhD, just wasn’t sure if it’s a path that leads to employment directly in our field.
