I am currently a Junior in the History department at the University of West Florida. I absolutely love Royal history, because royalty not only is just like the common person in their struggles in life, their mistakes have much more disastrous consequences. Your video actually was a video suggested for a Junior Seminar module for my class, so that's how I found your channel. Thank you for taking your time to discuss graduate school.

I'm really glad that I stumbled on your video. This is exactly what I've been looking for and you explain the Masters portion so well. I never understood if you needed one or not. But you also give great examples on how to still get the experience you need. I'm in my first year. I'm going to start my 2nd quarter in April. I'm going to Community College right now. And I plan and hope to go to either UW Seattle or WSU for the masters and Ph.D. I'm planning on becoming a Clinical Psychologist with an emphasis on Children and Transition youth. My passion truly lies there. I want to help the people struggle in that period of their life and I want to help intervene early so the rest of their life isn't so hard. I really want to be the help and support that I needed. I'm still nervous about my capabilities but I know that I can do it. Seriously though. Thank you for all of your help!

Funnily enough, I think that “Peasant Life in Medieval Europe” class sounds amazing. I am a junior majoring in English with a minor in Medieval Studies who is thinking of getting a Master’s in Medieval Studies. I’m very intimidated by the idea of graduate school, and I’m also…I’m very unsure of a lot right now. I have a little over a year until I graduate and that’s very frightening to me. Being a non-traditional student, my college experience has been very different, and very much a “keep my head down, do the work, and get through the semester” kind of experience. I’m a mom of 2 teenage boys with a full time job as well as a full time college student. The idea of attending the office hours and extra lectures is very daunting to me because I simply don’t have the time. That being said, I shall try this coming semester because I think it’s good advice and something I should make an effort to do. Thank you for this instructional and informative video. ❤ M

My ultimate goal is to be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) after completion of my undergrad in Nursing. You still help inspire me on how to make myself more presentable as a future CRNA school candidate and also how to organize my life to support my studies.

I just wanted to say something to biology majors out there wanting to do a PhD because some of the things in this video don’t really apply. IN MY EXPERIENCE you can defiantly get into a program without undergrad research (it does help A LOT and if you have the chance definitely do it but I wouldn’t say not having it is a deal breaker) you just need to have a clear reason why you think research is for you. Also, you should not go into grad school with a specific research question (you should have an area you want to work in i.e. I said I wanted to work in plant ecology and conservation). Picking a research question before applying will EXTREMELY limit where you can apply as you have to find an advisor working on something very similar and be willing to do that specific question, which I have never heard of happening (it may happen but I’d think that it’s very rare). So still apply to grad school if you are a biology major that didn’t get the opportunity to get undergrad research and you don’t have a specific question in mind for your PhD.

I plan to get a masters in linguistics (specifically psycholinguistics and language learning methodology). I'm worried about pursuing my master's even though I don't have an undergrad in the field of study, so this is a complete 180 career change from my background in the fashion industry as an assistant technical designer. I currently tutor French, German, and Spanish, but I want to pursue research on a language learning theory and explore methods of foreign language teaching to better serve my nonprofit organization to help with developing effective language learning within the education system. My goal is to go back to Europe to study because I feel like it adds a more multicultural experience as someone who speaks 10 different languages while also studying human language.

Great video. There are very few humanities graduate students on KZbin and I think you're the best among them. One question: You said you submitted six letters of recommendation when you applied for PhD. Is it allowed to send that many in your department? My field is English and I'll be applying for PhD two years from now, and all top graduate programs in English in the US (Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, UChicago, UPenn, UC Berkeley) ask for three or four letters of recommendation. They ask never to send more than four. I thought that was the case with every discipline. Now I'm surprised to hear that you submitted six. Is it really allowed?
@KaelynGraceApple4 жыл бұрын
I submitted the max number accepted for my program. The max will vary per school and you in no way need to submit more than the requested amount. I had specific reasons for wanting to include each recommender
