Statement of Purpose Structure Summary (from video): 1) Research Proposal 2) Background (What research have you done? Specific classes that shaped your academic interests? How you aim to develop these skills/interests at the institution? 3) Why the programme? (who do you want to work with any why? Non-human resources such as archives, funding and labs, how do you benefit from and to these resources? RECIPROCAL relationship needs to be highlighted*. This is how I took it down. Thanks guys.

Fantastic video, very well explained and structured. Helped me massively with a late PhD application decision to get both an academic CV and SOP done. I'd recommend everyone purchase your academic CV template as a starting point (for only around $6) as it saves a lot of wasted time searching for bad looking templates from non-academic people.

Question: What if I never had the opportunity to do research projects with a professor/other supervisor in undergrad? I have conference acceptances with literary research papers but I attend a small public university in my home state (I had to save money). Therefore, research projects weren’t necessarily on my lens or highly emphasized at my university. Any other suggestions?? I’m on the eBoard for my honors society, I have exactly a 3.7, and three diverse internships (one in Communications, another in Criminal Justice, the third being the Disney College Program) in addition to working 20 hours/week part time. Love your videos and I’m anxiously optimistic about the grad school journey!

HI again, Is it adviseable to make certain phrases bold or italic or underlined in my Personal Statement? This is to provide emphasis on certain items but Im thinking that it might give a bad impression to the readers. I did, however, colorize my acronomyms coz they're a lot. Thank you for your help. I had to decline my oxford offer coz of lack of funding. :( so I'm giving my oxford dream another try.

How much detail should the proposal have? Should we do a mini literature review and lists source we may use? Or should we simply define a specific topic and say what's important?

Yikes! What other components are there? Focus on your research experience, research proposal, and plan for attendance. It's going to be challenging but you've got this!

@@KaelynGraceApple The application asks for an SOP, a diversity statement, and an essay on contemporary issues in the field (I'm applying for library science programs). I don't have any relevant research experience because I did my undergrad in American Studies, but I don't think it's really expected in MLIS applications.

@@arcadiaaa1370 Direct experience is often less expected for MLIS programs! That's a very short SoP but highlight what you plan to get out of the program and you'll do great! :)
