They never invested more more or energy to design and equip this car. He's driving the top trim and it's worse than the base model of much smaller and completely different segment Elantra/Forte, Sentra from the competition. It's cheaper than all the other cars in the segment but still not selling. I wonder why 😂😂😂😂

I think it's a nice, roomy, comfortable car. I took this car out for a test drive and it drove very smoothly. It's a throwback to earlier years, is easy to drive and operate, and although it is not loaded with tons of tech features one comes to expect in today's newer cars, it does have some important updated safety improvements. It has everything you need, actually. The Navigation screen is small and primitive by today's standards. True, but it does come with Apple and Android Car Play so you can always connect your phone and use Waze or Google Maps. In my opinion, sometimes simple is best. And since this is a first-time car for my son, it's perfect.

Absolutely embarrassing. To put a VW badge on this car is insane. The strategic decision to go 'cheap' in the NA market is very sad. Passat is a flagship sedan that deserves the best tech the company offers. Europe and other markets offer appealing and cutting edge tech, stronger engine choices, better fit and finish components etc. ...Just disappointing knowing what it could be.

Man, I really want to like this car. I'm still a huge fan of midsize and fullsize sedans. The styling on this is pretty nice and the quality looks good. But 174hp on a 2 liter turbo? Why so low? And then fuel economy is not as good as the others? It's still good but it could definitely be better. I guess it's maybe because of new emission regulations? I think vw is starting to give up on sedans. Just like ford...

I dont understand all the hate against the 2020 Passat and the 2.0T engine. I just bought a 2020 Passat R-Line, and use 93 octane in it and am very impressed. I drove the new sonata, and new camry and chose the Passat due to the awesome value and certain features it had over the camry SE and Sonata. My Passat has the sunroof, leatherette seating, heated seats, etc whereas the camry se did not have any of these features, and the sonata I looked at was the same price as the passat and had cheap cloth seats. The 2.0T has a lot of low end torque and i just took a trip to NY to VA and averaged 38MPG. This 2.0T is also MUCH more refined than the Camrys base engine with the 8 speed, and has much more low end torque than the 2.5L in the sonata. Sure, the interior is basic and isn't anything special, but it does what it needs to do. For 27k for a brand new 2020 Passat R-Line, I am not complaining.

Function and form are matched perfectly and the sound is very good. Overall this car is an excellent automobile and if you have a soft foot on the go pedal you will easily hit the 30 mpg mark regularly. I rank the Mazda6 higher on style and interior but it's noticeably smaller. Camry is fine but dime a dozen. The Passat checks off a lot of boxes including still having a large fuel tank which means more range. Only the Legacy also has the 18.5 gallon tank any more. Wish you could go back to your original videos. It was repetitive and the same video concept. but so does other car reviewers. I really enjoyed your older car reviews where you start from exterior, interior, revving, engine compartment, then driving impressions at the end. I mean just look at your views and see how much it has dropped. Please just go back.

It always amaze me how americans like to cry.. Yes, it a bit old in some aspects, but it is an amzying car with so much better dynamics and driving experience then other japanese or South-Korean cars.. It is way newer then anything from 2010 it has the same infotainment system as in my 2016 Tiguan

I like simple. I don't mess with a touch screen that often. It being small isn't really a con in my opinion. Overly complicated and fussy cars with too much tech are just a pain. I want a car to drive, not a PC/entertainment system combo on wheels.

Volkswagen should just sell crossovers in the US, and the GTI. The Jetta and Passat are both yawn inducing, especially without the diesel TDI. The huge back seat is great for UBER drivers though.....

MQB architecture, 10 inch screen, digital dash, and the GTI 2.0 T would make his car competitive. They have these parts in the parts bin, surprised they won't put it all together!

I just picked up a 2020 for $20K lol.. My reason behind it was based off owning a 2016 Jetta 1.4 S 6 speed auto. So the Jetta has the same transmission as this car and it shifts fast and quick with 0 mechanical issues when I traded it in at 100K. The 8 speed auto on the other hand has had complaints over the past 2 years now so I steered away from that. Coming from a Jetta to the Passat the Apple car play, the full LED headlights and tail lights, extra roomy interior sold me. I frankly love the cloth seats in the base model Passat not a big fan of leather. The extra weight rides a little nicer on the highway also.. I also do Uber on the side so at times it could come in handy for that and commuting 18-20 miles a day it soaks up some of the road bumps and other crap roads. I'm waiting for Unitronic to finish there tune for this car and then will add it to the car for the ultimate bland sleeper lol!

From what I read VW said they couldn't put the digital cockpit offered on the new Jetta on the new/refreshed Passat because of the fact that it's still riding on the old platform and digital cockpit is not supported on that platform.

Just got a 2020 sel. Great retro car. Don’t miss the stop start. As is does not have it don’t miss and the 10 speed trans doing the samba searching for a gear. 6 speed more simple and adequate. It’s a retro car. 206 pfe of torque is plenty. A great cruiser car. Very elegant feeling. My 9th vw. Getting a set of continentals. Get rid of the giti tires.

That is actually one of the better engine notes I've heard from a car at this price point in last 5 years. Sounds a helluva lot better than any crossover you can buy in the $20k-30k range and seems to shift smoothly and predictably. Also, you can get a mid-level trim for $20,000 (advertised on website) from my local VW Dealer. Who else is even close to this price point for a mid-level midsize sedan (most are 5-8k more)? Seems like everyone is picking out all the undesirable features from this car. It's not all about infotainment. Would be interested to test drive this thing back to back with a Sonata and Accord. I bet there is really not much difference in the drive. Car seems like a huge bargain to me.

VW should have either spent the extra money to bring the Euro Passat over, or gotten rid of the Passat for the US market altogether, because I doubt this car is selling well. There’s just nothing compelling about the Passat 🥱

It’s really about where a manufacturer puts the money. Some automakers would rather put the money saved for other features or a better interior; You’re are going to open your hood maybe 1-4 times per year, so it’s an easy thing to cost-cut.

Looks better, but it’s a move that make VW look lazy and uninterested in their own vehicle. Same, underpowered drivetrain, aged platform, and a redesign that really isn’t a redesign. VW needs to take the Arteon, tone it down, and make a new Passat off of that. I get the feeling VW is more focused on models for Europe than the US... they give the Europeans far better models and options than we get in the states (just my opinion).

I just traded my ‘21 R-Line Passat for a Limited Edition (read: final edition), in Racing Green w/that brown Mauro leather. It really is beautiful. I have owned a ‘96 Passat TDI wagon, ‘02 Passat V6 GLS, ‘04 Passat GLS wagon, and, now, these two. There’s no question, the NMS (new midsized sedan) was dumbed-down for North America (and also enlarged for our fat asses) compared to the European model, but also to inaugurate the Chattanooga factory and, if memory serves, the NMS was nominated for North American Car of the Year. So, it’s served several purposes, and served them well. We will miss the Passat when it’s gone. BTW, I also own a 2020 Arteon SEL-Premium, so I compare them every day.
