I love my 2017 v6 Passat, trade down for the 1.8, whaaaat lol. I’d rather just by parts to fix the bouncy suspension and loose steering. You’re right, it does get annoying bouncing everywhere in high speeds, but would never trade away the power the v6 produces just because of that. This car is underrated drive/speed wise and will be keeping it for the long run due to its rarity in its engine. Just wish they would make performance parts for the car, doesn’t seem like that’s happening anytime ever. 2019, hitting 37k+ miles still driving and feeling damn good. Like he said, the car does have a bit of a lag when changing gears driving low speeds, but it’s not a constant thing. And honestly, I feel once you step in and actually drive the car. You will know and feel like you’re getting more than your money’s worth. The little flaws the car comes with doesn’t phase everything else good the car comes with as a package, including how affordable it is.

Same for me. I've been warned by owners of the Golf GTI to follow the maintenance recommended by the brand and it'll run fine. All the people whining about reliability seem to just "go their own way". Not surprised there. It's the same with all brands. I used to own a MINI and it also had a schedule for maintenance. Poured 50,000 miles onto it and it was VERY reliable. My lazy ass brother wanted the car and stone cold refused to listen to anyone or even the dealer (he said "They don't know anything!"). Sure enough, not even two years and he had major engine problems and even somehow screwed up the oil pan! The dealer had to remove and install new one. I don't know how he f'd up something as simple as an oil change! But then, he refused to follow the directions anyway. The car needed a new engine so he dumped it! Entirely his own fault.
@largol33t17 жыл бұрын
satrw, SO true. I know that a lot of the posters bitching about reliability haven't even looked at the owner's manuals for their cars. I followed the brand recommendations for my MINI Cooper and it was actually more reliable than BMW-branded cars costing $10000 more. And I go to message boards and see people whining about MINI and they clearly haven't done even a basic car check (oil level, coolant, etc.). Once or twice, I've been to the dealer for scheduled maintenance and seen mechanics arguing with customers because they neglected their cars and didn't want to pay for the repairs (remember kids, if you don't maintain it, the warranty is moot!)

I think you are way to critical of the suspension being "too soft". It's also a very comfortable ride and one of the quietest cars in the midsize segment, icluding some luxury midsizes. When comparing to the Mazda 6 or Accord which handle a lot better there are also tradeoffs in ride and quietness. The Passat SEL premium is alo available for about the same price Accord and Camry sell for in real life. And quite respectable in 1.8 TSI form, while being much roomier and luxurious.

I think this car would be really nice if it was a 2014 model. Compared to the EU-Spec B8 Passat, the US-Passat just looks way too outdated.
@skywalker28527 жыл бұрын
Did you check for the heated steering wheel button on the back side of the wheel? You know Volkswagen likes to hide it back there.
@endoftheworld62936 жыл бұрын
Sky Walker consumers are supposed to read the owners manual.

Maybe this is the last application of VR6 engine in all VW sedan line up. Until this time no heard any improvement from Volks Audi Group (VAG) upon this engine., VW still retain it for the big SUV. Four turbo is the next engine for the Passat.
@eileenverjes4136 жыл бұрын
Can you test the 2018 Passat with the new 2.0 turbo engine.

Halogen foglamps? Why. VW if youre gonna make everything else led, why give the fog's ugly halogens to ruin the look.

Hmmm kinda sad that the Passat now has the old switchblade key again, it used to have a nicer key with a push to start

I see that does not have an aux cable input, so how would you play music from your phone. On my phone I have my all my MP3s plus XM Radio. That means you would have to use one of these little FM transmitters through the FM radio.

Chilly Willy We'd recommend using the USB connector since it no longer requires the proprietary VW connector.

American VW Passat got optional full digital gauge or not? Cause other countries the 2.0T variant got full digital gauge.
@mrchongyl7 жыл бұрын
The US version of Passat NMS is slightly different from the B8 Passat from other country. I don't think the digital gauge is offered here but I might be wrong.
@mohdfaiz887 жыл бұрын
Carlton C yes i think it doesn't come with digital gauge cause current passat nms known as passat b7 (previous generation). Still waiting for passat b8 for american market and what it will look like.

Boring but elegant. Conservative is always safe. Plus it has an Audi touch on the exterior now. I have owned a 14 Jetta. 15 Passat and now the best vw. 2016 golf sportwagen. All 3 dead reliable.

LED headlights, LED turn signal and LED daytime, why, and I’m begging please, why did you (Volkswagen) had to to go with halogen spotlights?

What about the dealer radiator scam? Having to pay for a radiator with less that 3000 miles on the car.

they should make an R-line V6 Passat.
@funtimeswithtom41086 жыл бұрын
They do, it's called the Passat GT (basically this car with R-line bumpers, lowered suspension, tuned exhaust and ugly rims. Still 280hp/258 torque and DSG transmission and asking price is $29,090 plus $895 destination) and it will be available second quarter of 2018. Only problem is only 5000 are being made so if you want one better get it quick. I have already reserved one at my dealership.
@heyitsme9396 жыл бұрын
it's too expensive :( I wanted something in the $27k range. wanted it equipped just like the 2017 R-Line but with the lighting package, V6 engine and a sunroof. fog lights would also be nice, not sure why they don't include that in the lighting package.. I might end up getting a certified 2017 v6 se with tech and just put 19' rims on it

Being partial to VW, there is no question in my mind. Japanese cars are much more "mushy" than this Americanized VW. I just bought a 2017 SEL. Just get it serviced and take care of it.

That's because it is an Audi without the ridiculous mark up..the parts share is strong with this one and people hate on Lexus for being a dolled up Toyota when the engineering is so much more varied than this 'Audi '
@sidonronaldinho87137 жыл бұрын
well.... ur totally wrong.Most Audi´s are based on a different platform, have different engines, different transmissions, different suspensions, different infotainment, better materials, better fit and finish. For a good reason Audi sells nearly 4 times as many cars as Lexus...

That exhaust note, ew. 11:33 it needs rumble. It sounds like it'd have a lot of promise with those hints of crackles and pops but the folks at VW castrated and completely exterminated any evidence of bass.
