People that say VWs are unreliable just don’t know how to take care of their car. Regular maintenance is one thing but the way you drive the car also matters a lot

I have driven Volkswagens for over 30 years,,,just like any other car you get back what you put IN,,,take care of it and it will take care of you. Btw I have had friends with Lexus and Hyundai that were total pieces of crap,,,an Asian car is no guarantee of quality over the long haul and for the most part VW are better looking and MORE fun to drive...PASS on grandma Accords and Camrys....PASS PASS PASS!!!

Yup, it also is good for if you plan to keep the car for a long time or plan to get it used when it's older. I'm sure the display will start failing as it ages. Kinda like how the Chevy digital screens in their older cars. I've been in taxi's where you can't even see the screen anymore.

Luke W, I guess it depends on the model. In Texas, I see a lot of Golfs nearly 8-10 years old still chugging along. Haven't seen more than a handful of Passats or Jettas. Texans seem to love the (in no particular order) Tiguan, Golf and Beetle the most of all VW's models.

I used to think this car looked boring compared to most competitors, but the styling had really grown on me as it has aged very well & the interior doesn't look bad ether even a decade later. I love my 2017 v6 Passat, trade down for the 1.8, whaaaat lol. I’d rather just by parts to fix the bouncy suspension and loose steering. You’re right, it does get annoying bouncing everywhere in high speeds, but would never trade away the power the v6 produces just because of that. This car is underrated drive/speed wise and will be keeping it for the long run due to its rarity in its engine. Just wish they would make performance parts for the car, doesn’t seem like that’s happening anytime ever. 2019, hitting 37k+ miles still driving and feeling damn good. Like he said, the car does have a bit of a lag when changing gears driving low speeds, but it’s not a constant thing. And honestly, I feel once you step in and actually drive the car. You will know and feel like you’re getting more than your money’s worth. The little flaws the car comes with doesn’t phase everything else good the car comes with as a package, including how affordable it is.

I'm an American expat currently living in the EU. I love my 2016 VW Passat R-Line European model as it is a very sporty vehicle. It's a German built sports family sedan for the young at heart who loves to drive fast on the German Autobahn. I used to drive Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Maxima back in the states but they were not something to be excited about when I was behind the wheels.

Very few people prefer a boring car. Wanting a sporty car does not mean having to settle for in-your-face ricers like the type r. a good example of a sporty but mature car is the golf R/GTi. Another car that is also a good example but less aggressive then a golf R is the mazda 6.

I’ve owned Audi & bmw sedans.. they’re great cars but VW’s are very close in line with those cars in terms of overall quality and the way the vehicle performs. Don't get the hate for this car. First had a 2013 TDI and now (thanks to the buyback) have a 2017. They're incredibly spacious and an amazing value. My SEL premium has everything I can think of that is offered in the midsize segment at a price thousands less than a comparable Fusion Titanium or Accord Touring. Sure, the interior isn't as nice as the B6, but compared to a Camry? An Altima? An Accord? They make this car feel like a Rolls.
@TheCobruhAlienat0r

drivers wanted, so true. I've driven a Camry and it's boring as hell. And the ride quality is TERRIBLE: the steering in the Camry is just n u m b. Very squishy brake and the gas is dangerous. You can TOUCH it and the car starts moving almost 40 mph. Imagine accidentally hitting it when in a hurry. At 50 mph, you're barely even touching the gas. It's hilarious when Camry owners bash the Jetta as "boring."

Same for me. I've been warned by owners of the Golf GTI to follow the maintenance recommended by the brand and it'll run fine. All the people whining about reliability seem to just "go their own way". Not surprised there. It's the same with all brands. I used to own a MINI and it also had a schedule for maintenance. Poured 50,000 miles onto it and it was VERY reliable. My lazy ass brother wanted the car and stone cold refused to listen to anyone or even the dealer (he said "They don't know anything!"). Sure enough, not even two years and he had major engine problems and even somehow screwed up the oil pan! The dealer had to remove and install new one. I don't know how he f'd up something as simple as an oil change! But then, he refused to follow the directions anyway. The car needed a new engine so he dumped it! Entirely his own fault.
@largol33t1
@largol33t1 7 жыл бұрын
satrw, SO true. I know that a lot of the posters bitching about reliability haven't even looked at the owner's manuals for their cars. I followed the brand recommendations for my MINI Cooper and it was actually more reliable than BMW-branded cars costing $10000 more. And I go to message boards and see people whining about MINI and they clearly haven't done even a basic car check (oil level, coolant, etc.). Once or twice, I've been to the dealer for scheduled maintenance and seen mechanics arguing with customers because they neglected their cars and didn't want to pay for the repairs (remember kids, if you don't maintain it, the warranty is moot!)

I think you are way to critical of the suspension being "too soft". It's also a very comfortable ride and one of the quietest cars in the midsize segment, icluding some luxury midsizes. When comparing to the Mazda 6 or Accord which handle a lot better there are also tradeoffs in ride and quietness. The Passat SEL premium is alo available for about the same price Accord and Camry sell for in real life. And quite respectable in 1.8 TSI form, while being much roomier and luxurious.

I like the styling of the Passat but that key fob does need a refresh at least. It does have remote start which the Golf doesn't have (at least in 2016). I'm guessing VW is thinking "If it ain't broke, don't 'fix' it." My Golf GTI has the touch pad on the door handles and it works with bare skin anywhere. If your hands are full with grocery bags, you can touch it with your elbow to lock the doors. I do that all the time.

My lease is up in two months and I’m going to have to let go my 2014 GLI edition 30. Was wondering if the new 2018 Passat GT would be a good option to consider. Unfortunately, the GTI or Golf R cargo is too small, the new GLI is not out for another year and I’m not keen of their Golf Wagon (even the Alltrack package). Don’t want their SUVs... Thoughts? Thanks!

DrinkMoWater why? This reviewer doesn't like Toyota/Lexus so expect the usual 5 likes (he's gonna pretend he likes stuff) & 5 dislikes (the door panels,the seats,the infotainment position,no Apple play & android & maybe even the new design) This guy will compare it to this car & say the VW he just tested was better.I just summed up his Camry Review fa you.

Christopher Schwarz the eu passat would compete against the e class, a6 and 5 series if brought here for luxury, not engine choices though. For the same reason vw axed the vw touareg for 2018 because it competes with q5 here in the usa.

We had a 2015 passat, didn't keep it very long due to the fact that it was jetta based and the seating position as opposed to the pedals and steering wheel was horrible. The seat was in the outer position due to the passat being wider but the pedals and wheel were in the position as if they were still in the jetta. I know this one is on the new platform, have they fixed these issue's?

every time you shut the door on any car it rattles. Do you lay the keys on the console before shutting the door? You always say it has a solid sound but all I ever hear is that rattling noise or it is very tinny. i have heard other reviewers doing the same car and it is a much different sound than yours.

Maybe this is the last application of VR6 engine in all VW sedan line up. Until this time no heard any improvement from Volks Audi Group (VAG) upon this engine., VW still retain it for the big SUV. Four turbo is the next engine for the Passat.

@funtimeswithtom4108
@funtimeswithtom4108 6 жыл бұрын
They do, it's called the Passat GT (basically this car with R-line bumpers, lowered suspension, tuned exhaust and ugly rims. Still 280hp/258 torque and DSG transmission and asking price is $29,090 plus $895 destination) and it will be available second quarter of 2018. Only problem is only 5000 are being made so if you want one better get it quick. I have already reserved one at my dealership.

it's too expensive :( I wanted something in the $27k range. wanted it equipped just like the 2017 R-Line but with the lighting package, V6 engine and a sunroof. fog lights would also be nice, not sure why they don't include that in the lighting package.. I might end up getting a certified 2017 v6 se with tech and just put 19' rims on it
