The Acolyte Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Easter Eggs, Theories, Spoiler Review, & Ending Explained! Kelnacca lightsaber fight in In Episode 7 of The Acolyte, titled "Choice," the story takes a significant leap back in time to explore the events that unfolded on the planet Brendok 16 years prior. The episode begins with Jedi Masters Indara, Kelnacca, Sol, and Padawan Torbin arriving on Brendok in search of a mysterious "vergence," a powerful nexus of the Force. Initially, the Jedi are uncertain about the vergence's nature, but their mission takes a turn when Sol discovers two young girls, Osha and Mae, who are connected to the vergence. The episode reveals that the Jedi were sent to Brendok after a hyperspace disaster 100 years earlier, which left the planet barren. As the Jedi observe the girls and their connection to the Force, they discover that the twins were not born but created from the vergence. This revelation leads to a confrontation with the Nightsisters, led by Mother Aniseya and Mother Koril, who are responsible for the twins' creation. The episode explores the moral dilemmas faced by the Jedi as they grapple with the ethical implications of their actions. The conflict escalates when the Nightsisters, fearing the Jedi's intentions, take aggressive measures to protect the twins. In the climax of the episode, a tragic event occurs, resulting in the apparent deaths of the Nightsisters and the separation of the twins. The episode ends with the Jedi making a difficult decision to hide the truth from the Jedi Council to protect Osha and maintain order within the Jedi ranks. Episode 7 of The Acolyte delves into the complex relationships between the Jedi, the Nightsisters, and the twins, exploring themes of creation, destiny, and the consequences of one's choices.
The cast features Amandla Stenberg as Mae, Lee Jung-jae as Master Sol, Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity from The Matrix) as Indara, Manny Jacinto as Qimir, Dafne Keen (X23 from Logan) as Jecki Lon,
Charlie Barnett as Yord Fandar, Jodie Turner-Smith as Mother Aniseya,
Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra Rwoh, Joonas Suotamo as Kelnacca, a Wookiee Jedi. We just had the end of The Bad Batch Season 3, Tales Of The Empire, and now we await Star Wars: Dawn Of The Jedi, The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Star Wars: Lando, & perhaps more!

People need to realize that the Coven was not evil and when you go from that viewpoint you realize that they were just a family trying to protect there children but also there way of life- They didn’t kill anyone they didn’t hurt anyone the only time they used there powers was always in defense never in trying to kill someone After Mother Aniseya was brutally murdered by Jedi Sol wrongfully that is when the Coven fighting still in defense but also in offense so that no other person would die- You can feel how you want to feel but Jedi Sol Jedi Torbin and the wooky Jedi we’re all in the wrong Carrie Anne moss was the only one who consistently tried to understand what was going on from a higher big picture view point But those Jedi after what they did should have all been stripped of there station and immediately removed from the Jedi order and the fact that they weren’t because they kept the secret for 16 yrs shows that they were corrupt and had fallen into darkness The witches were definitely innocent the Jedi came in like child protective services and instead of actually looking at the situation Sol just immediately said they were in danger all because he wanted a Padawan if you listen to Carrie Anne moss character She states and that’s why I have a Padawan and you don’t they made that scene jump out because they wanted the viewers to realize that Sol was jealous of not having a student to teach so much so that it clouded his judgment. Yes the witches lived differently but all three of the male Jedis were jumping to quick conclusions and making their own decisions At the end of the day aniyseya had made up her mind about letting osha go with the jedis there was no need for violence When she shouted out No it was her way of trying to stop the jedis and mother Koril from fighting and before that happened Sol yet again jumped to conclusions and killed her immediately making him the bad guy and darkening his spirit Everything after that moment was just a response to the jedis killing their leader but they never were in danger the ceremony wasn’t evil and neither were any of the witches They just did things differently

Mae misquotes Mother Aniseya when se talks about sacrifice with the Jedi, the actual quote was "Ascension is about walking through fear, is about sacrificing a part of yourself" not "Everyone must walk through fear, everybody must be sacrificed to fulfill their destiny" this is one of many misunderstood elements the makes Sol jump to the rushed conclusion that the coven is evil. Most of his actions in this episode are dictated by fear and a misguided belief that he needs to protect these children from something he doesn't even try to understand.

occurred to me during this rewatch that Sol's motivation in letting Mae fall was to get rid of the only witness that could tell the council how he murdered her mother. None of this had to transpire had the Jedi just collected their moss and minded their business. Going back to when Mae confronted Torbin, her first ultimatum was that Tobin go confess to the council the Jedi's part they played in it, but he chose to drink poison rather than admit they over stepped. As for the comments on Mae acting childish, well she was 8 years old, so a child being childish is what she was supposed to be. All the questions asked concerning her culture, how they were fathered etc was NONE of the Jedi's business! By their own rules the twins were too old to join the order, yet Sol continued to push. The witches submitted to their demands to test the girls. They saw the girls were willing to fail the test on purpose to remain with their family. But none of that mattered. It's the unmitigated gall on the Jedi's part that got me. Then to cover it all up, they let Mae become the scapegoat. Periodt. When Osha finds out it was Sol who killed her mama, she is going full on dark!

It was my impression that Mother Aneseya made a vulnerable Torbin extra crazed to go home. She sensed that desire and pushed it, but it didn't manifest as she intended. She didn't think that he would find his excuse to go home in taking the twins, she perhaps just thought he would convince the other Jedi to leave. It's actually a pretty cool motivation because it makes the one who was advocating nonviolence and cooler heads at fault too. She mirrors Indara in that respect, who ends up doing something horrific despite her efforts to maintain peace. No hands were clean in this, except for those of the children who were being emotionally manipulated.

He couldn't lift his x-wing out of the swamp, not because he wasn't powerful (cause he definitely was) but rather he wasn't in the right mental state. He was frustrated, tired, and worried about his friends. Without a calm or focused mind in the Star Wars, using the force is difficult. Sol just killed the twins mother, who revealed that she was gonna let Osha leave with the Jedi. Not only did his rash actions get her killed and started the fighting, but he acted on fear. Which after fighting your friend and all of that happened, he simply didn't have what he needed. Even Mae's misquote of what her mom said was such a great detail. But I would say the fact that Sol was so quick to belive that she was saying everyone correctly as a child is insane. She clearly had doubt about what she was saying by saying "I think" or "that's what Mama said". This is why getting a response from the council would have been worth waiting for. Because they may have suggested speaking to an adult and someone from the coven who could give them clarity on what Ascension was and that its not them drinking the Kool-Aid instead of Sol forcing his idea of what she said as truth and just making a rash decision.

No, here’s an interesting take on my part. We are used to Jedi when they have an actual physical conflict coming straight for them. We had it with Luke in the original trilogy, we had it with the Jedi council with the rise of the Empire and the prequel trilogy, we had it with Rey And the Emperor in the last trilogy. This miniseries, we are shown what Jedi do when there’s no conflict they are just roaming the galaxy, checking on things and seeing where the force is influencing change in the galaxy. You got yourself a young Padawan who is out doing soil sampling in the far regions of the galaxy. Do you not think the guy is not going to be back crap crazy because these ones are not like Kool-Aid drinking followers they are just regular beings who have emotions whether they are trained by the Jedi or not you put somebody out there in the middle of nowhere without years and years of training they are going to go bat crap crazy. I like this concept that they did here because honestly up to this point the Jedi to me have always been a very militant indoctrinated society they can show no weakness whatsoever. Now what this show does it show us that? Hey, these are just all children raised in a certain Belief system and not all of them, which I believe in the books they explore this not all of them can handle it. So far, I don’t have a problem with the over arching concept of what they’re trying to say execution has a bit of issue, but I don’t hate what they are trying to say or do.

Also, just because they are a teacher, doesnt mean they are leader worthy for a group task of this nature. Especially when there dealing with first contact like this. Indara was probably better suited for a resource gathering mission leadership role such as this than diplomatic instances so things spiraled out of control and with everyone viewing her as the most level headed and wisest, diverted to her for guidance when in her head she is probably "Ok, stay calm. What do I do? How can i make this work without fighting?" She obviously has never been in that big of a leadership role before. These things happen when trust upon you especially when something big like this is just put on your shoulders. Also i just always viewed the Jedi as they all deal with a more conformity style religion and expect everyone to be this patient and calm individual that when someone deviates, there honestly confused and hesitiant. This is yet another freaking Star Wars Hill I am willing to die on. Ever since I kept re-watching the original trilogy over and over again over the years, I always came to the conclusion that the force is one encompassing energy that exist in the Star Wars universe. It is so strong that you can easily tap into it with, strong negative emotions creating desire for the power or you can tap into it and just learn to use it without losing yourself to desire so it’s all a matter of the balance within you tapping into a power source. Other words the force is not dark and light good and evil. It’s just energy. How do you access it is, all based on the user. With that in mind, I think that the concept of the vergence, which is stupid, it just a hotspot of force energy that exist in different parts of the galaxy this planet happens to be a hotspot of force energy. What they are trying to say is that in the history of the Star Wars galaxy they have literally indoctrinated themselves everyone into thinking the forces good or bad, light or dark. I have yet to see on film, have not read any books or comics, Anyone use a balance of the force like the true nature of the force it’s always a struggle between good and bad, but I haven’t seen anybody who has struck a control of the full power of the force at least to my interpretation of the films. If that’s where they’re trying to lean towards with Rey then OK no problem. It just seems to me that constantly there is this issue with Star Wars where it’s either good or bad and nobody understands anybody’s point of view.

Complete Canon Knowledge on the Force according to my own notes after this episode: Force Nature: Cosmic Force(Time, Space) creates the universe (galaxies) and Midi-Chlorians(first-life), which spread and create rest of life, which generates Living Force(Life Energy), which replenishes Cosmic Force and allows existence of universe to continue as a cycle. Living Force can be unbalanced by Force Users dividing it between Light and Dark, disrupting the replenishing cycle that keeps the galaxy alive. All organic sentient beings can use Living Force and speak to Cosmic Force, but potential depends on Midi-Chlorian amount and control. Midi-Chlorians attach to normal living beings and their functional birthed clones, but not to dysfunctional replica clones which have no Life Energy. This makes them nearly impossible to artificially harness or replicate, as Moff Gideon and Darth Sidious learned through failed science. Sidious failed to make a replica clone with functionality(due to loss of Kaminoan cloning expertise) and Midi-Chlorian attachment, had to resort to using essence transfer to store his consciousness and constantly fading Life Energy in multiple dysfunctional replica bodies upon his death. Took years to travel as an essence to Exegol and actually do this. Later, he began manipulating an amalgam of DNAs with residual Midi-Chlorians(Snoke) to prepare Ben Solo as a living host for his essence. He was simultaneously aware that his functional birthed clone(Dathan) had created a force sensitive daughter(Rey). Sidious wanted her killed due to her threat level but when Ben Solo became attuned to the lightside, he decided to try to use Rey as a host instead. However, he would also discover that a force dyad had brewed between Ben and Rey, which he used to replenish his own dysfunctional replica clone through the darkside force ability drain. However, he was eventually permanently destroyed by Rey and many Jedi Force Spirits in this form too(no host ever allowed access to his essence and he had no dysfunctional replica clones left). Knowledgeable Force Users are also capable of manipulating Midi-Chlorians to create life in a certain manner(Sith experiments of Darth Plagueis and twin creation by Coven of the Thread Witches). But if this manipulation affects the replenishing cycle of balance in any way, the Cosmic Force retaliates against those happenings(direct activation of the Chosen One prophecy). Force History: Three Celestials(The Ones///Mortis Gods) originating from the planet Peridea become the first force users, as well as the most powerful. They become interconnected with aspects of the Living Force(Father is Balance, Son is Dark, Daughter is Light), directly affecting the force itself as Force Avatars. With help from Cosmic Force they seemingly create World Between Worlds, a conduit Force Realm that grants aspects of the Cosmic Force but only accessible through their presence, connection, or knowledge. They also teach Zeffo and Dathomiri Witches about magick force usage. Eventually they bring extreme chaos and imbalance (reason the Zeffo and Dathomiri Witches flee their galaxy through the Purrgil or go dormant if they remain, ending the Witch Kingdom but establishing the various Witch and Zeffo descendants in the main galaxy), so the Father and Cosmic Force create conduit Force Realm Mortis to serve as the cage for him and his children as he keeps them in control for ages. Eventually other force users come to exist, like the Jedi(Light) and the Sith(Dark). Cosmic Force decides it needs a contingency plan against Force Users and prophecizes the rise of a mortal to create balance, the Chosen One(Anakin Skywalker). Father discovers this, and by extension also the Jedi. Cosmic Force further continues to work towards balance by creating Force Entities such as Bendu, Morai, Loth-Wolves, and Force Priestesses to assure their knowledge positively aids Force Users (such as Jedi learning how to become a Force Spirit). Ages later the prophecy activates after direct imbalance resulting from Sith Midi-Chlorian manipulation , and the Chosen One is conceived by Cosmic Force. He eliminates the Mortis Gods with the Father's help, which eliminates their possible imbalance, and then later brings further balance by affecting the amount of power the Jedi and Sith reach(Order 66, Fall of the Empire, Total Destruction of the Sith). Force Abilities: --Miscellaneous: Physical Enhancement(Mobility, Jump), Levitation, Flight, Mind Manipulation(Control Tricks, Probing, Debilitation, Memory Wiping), Telekinesis(Pushes, Chokes), Vision(premonitions), Shapeshifting(switching body appearance), Dyad(two Force Users temporarily connecting through same Life Energy which allows sharing of consciousness and uncontrolled teleportation) --Lightside: Heal(cures body systems by sharing amounts of Life Energy), Shield(blocks physical attacks) Deflection(reflects force attacks), Echo(recalls past events), Nature Manipulation, Projection(physical extension of Life Energy), Essence Ascension(become a tangible Force Spirit after physical death by keeping all your consciousness and Life Energy) --Darkside: Lightning(electric expulsion), Stasis(freeze matter in place), Infection(shuts down body systems), Essence Transfer(moves consciousness and a diminishing Life Energy to another host after physical death, which will fade away in time unless host is living and not a dysfunctional replica clone, this means user will need to be allowed access by living host first and then eliminate their consciousness to gain THEIR Life Energy), Drain(steal Life Energy to attach Midi-Chlorians to the host while removing them from the enemy), Alchemy(Superficial Force Realm Access, Illusions, Flame Attacks) --Magick: Resurrection(animating dead beings), Controlled Teleportation(instant travel), Mutation(body enhancement), Mind Melding(while still alive, users can forcefully share a consciousness with another host, this severely exposes their Life Energy and may easily die as a result), Possession(allows consciousness to thrive without Life Energy after physical death by forcefully attaching to a host or object), Sorcery(Voodoo, Energy Manipulation)

I feel like so much of this was written so you almost have to be able to read far into it to find it compelling. For instance, recognizing that the only reason Sol stabbed Aniseya was because he didn't have enough familiarity with her culture and their relationship with the force, combined with his accelerated fear and reactivity. That message makes sense, and it's why a lot of people act crazy towards those they don't understand. However, unless someone knows how to perceive that, that moment makes no sense. I feel like good script writing and directing makes those elements very clear and more engaging so it's not lost on the audience. It seems so much of this show was written from a place of, "Lets see who gets it" instead of, "Lets make this clear and awesome at the same time". This is a common problem with writers who assume everyone will think and perceive the way they do. A writer needs to be able to see where people who think and perceive differently may miss something, and adapt the writing to cover that. This series just doesn't feel like it does that. So many elements in this show could be so much fun, if just written in a more engaging way, and with greater audience inclusivity. It's almost as if the producers don't know how to put themselves into other people's shoes, but assume the audience should somehow see things from their perspective. That doesn't work when making good content. You have to really meet the audience first, and then make clear connections with what's being presented so it's relatable, while making sure it's actually fun and engaging. To be fair, there might be many behind the scenes reasons for the show feeling so flat. However, if only a relative few who read deeply enough into it can enjoy it, I consider that a loss.

NGL, nice to see lightsaber twirling that looks good, and effective. With multiple projectiles coming in from different angles, it makes sense to have those fast twirls. I'm enjoying the fight choreo in this show a lot. Especially seeing more physicality, more grapples, punches and force use in combination with the saber. I also feel like most of this boils down to a lot of people acting on bad assumptions, poor information and gut reactions. Honestly a very human situation.

While I believe Greg and his “I love everything the Star Wars does!” friend liked the episode, this is just a prime example of why access and invites to premieres, etc eventually corrupt even those with the best intentions. I used to come to the channel for Greg’s well thought out critical thinking on content, but the actuality was that that type of analysis was on a timer. The Studios know what they’re doing, and their strategy works. Can’t fault them for buying these type of channels. Look at NR, they invited Eric to meet the show runner and , he loves the show. Greg, you used to be really entertaining and I thank you for that. Good luck in the future with your current direction.

The problem this show has, I think, is it feels like it’s being translated to English and context is being lost in translation. Torbin, as other people have noted, definitely seems like the intent wasn’t him being “homesick” but felt like his potential and abilities were being wasted and he wanted to do something more exciting than collecting samples. The visual storytelling was there telling that but the dialogue was saying something else. If the witch was offering him a chance to leave and go on a grand adventure where his praises were being sung, that would fit that scene way better. I like that the Jedi weren’t portrayed as completely at fault. Yes, they were at fault. They let their preconceived ideas of the witches guide their narrative of what was going on. However, you can see why they would jump to these conclusions. It’s still really bad but it wasn’t just “Jedi superiority complex”. I don’t think Indara knew that freeing Kelnaka would kill the coven. And even with sol killing the witch leader, it was understandable that he felt it was an attack. Yeah, it sucked. It was awful but it was understandable. I like that. Again, a lot of this feels like the script or story was written in another language and translated to English. The whole series is held back by the weird dialogue. The visuals tell a kinda different story than what is being said. It’s like the show was made and released in Japan or something and someone fan dubbed the dialogue but didn’t quite understand how to translate it to English for the voice actors to convey what is actually going on. Like, originally torbin wanted to go back to the criminal underbelly of coruscant and him being a Jedi with the context of the way it was said in the original language would be like a cop complaining about being assigned to a podunk town with no crime. However, literally translating it to English is just “I want to go back to coruscant”.

The conspiracy reveal was really blah for me. To build up any kind of shock/horror/pathos of the reveal, the writers needed to present (throughout the entire storyline) more fear/paranoia or idea of systemic corruption from the Jedi in regards to xenophobic races and or Force occultism. This felt too neatly tied up to make it seem like no one was the bad guy -- , it has no damn pay-off at all. The idea that this event drove Torbin to self-exile and suicide is just laughable.
