Oh, I agree. George MacKay was completely snubbed for his performance in 1917 but I have hope that he's about to do great things for film in the future. :)

I hope Parasite wins. Just an incredible piece of art. If it wins, it would be the first foreign film to win best picture. Deserves all the praise it gets, maybe even more. If you haven't seen it yet, WATCH IT!

@T Mac Let me rephrase my former statement. As yes The Artist is a foreign film but Parasite would be the first foreign-language film to win best picture; as The Artist is silent. Regardless if you liked the film or not, you must still appreciate the thought and intent put into its creation. Also if this film doesn't deserve to be nominated what does?

@T Mac I do think the lighthouse should have been nominated too, as it was definitely one of the better films this year. I also had the same fear going into Parasite that it wouldn't be as good as it was claimed to be, although unlike you I was not disappointed. But hey, the Oscars are really just an advertising campaign, and The Lighthouse is filled with popular actors; Willem Dafoe and Robert Patterson, as well as a critically acclaimed Director so I think more people were likely to see The Lighthouse although with Parasite it is a foreign film with no really well-known actors for a western audience to say "Oh hey look its [insert actor]," and then go see the film because they like the actor. So I think while yes The Lighthouse is a great film, a best picture win for Parasite would help commercialize the movie a bit more than it would for The Lighthouse.

@T Mac I was looking at it objectively, not pushing any agenda. Both films would benefit from the award, as it would increase buzz around the movie. I was only saying that a western audience would be more likely to see a film like The Lighthouse than Parasite. But do I think Parasite should win only on the merits of an agenda? No, I do not. I enjoyed Parasite more than any other film of 2019. And if all Parasite was, was an agenda, and didn't stand on its two feet as a film, then I wouldn't be saying it should win best picture. In the end, neither film needs the gratification of the academy; as they are both great films. But subjectively, Parasite is a better film than The Lighthouse.

​@T Mac Do you mean objectively? As subjectively I enjoyed Parasite more, that is MY opinion. (Please remember this is my opinion) but the editing in Parasite is better, the story is better, the pacing is better, the directing is better, it has a multitude of setups and callbacks that makes the conclusion and revelations more earned. Also, the cinematography styles are very different, but yes The Lighthouse does have better cinematography. And yes Willem Dafoe's performance is spectacular, as well as Robert Paterson's but that doesn't mean the acting in Parasite is bad. If you think The Lighthouse is better that is fine, I am only explaining why I think Parasite is better. Honestly arguing over two movies I love, is exhausting.

@T Mac Why do you think the Lighthouse is "subjectively" a better movie? Everyone has their own preferences, and I thoroughly enjoyed Parasite much more than the Lighthouse. You just sound close minded and ignorant as hell and I highly doubt that you watched "Parasite" with your full attention.

Totally agree about McKay’s performance in 1917, he’s my best actor nom regardless. While I appreciate how much Joaquin’s speech at the BAFTA’s impacted you as Americans, from an international perspective his lack of understanding of the platform he was using seriously undercut the message he was trying to deliver. He was a lucky award winner in a night of diverse nominations and wins where a variety of performances, international, and multicultural stories were celebrated; so as well intentioned as his speech may have been it did feel like he was undermining the achievements of these many performers and storytellers. I am a supporter of using your platform to do good just check your privilege and have a bit more environmental awareness first is my advice. Also honest trailers, am I right! just can’t get enough of em! Another hilarious slam dunk for sure.
