Thanks for this video- I just made the table and added plug-in night lights to illuminate the wall behind the couch. Looks great!

@timdickinson120310 ай бұрын
Agree. That is the only modification I think is necessary. Other that, it is good looking and functional.

You can use a 1x6, or 2x6 as the top board and it covers the 2in lip on the back of the couch and gives you extra space as well.

I’m making one right now with pop-out/wireless charging plugs that were a bit expensive (~$110 together). Plus I had to buy a couple new tools (lost some in a recent move). But got the wood for about $35, so yay for that. Plus I used 2x8s, because I have kids that I don’t trust to not break it.

Great video. Thanks. I am going to have a go but also going to add some LED lights and lower it a bit so its almost hidden behind the couch, but reachable and therefore illuminates the wall behind the couch. Thx

Was just talking to the wife last week about trying our hand at some of these projects. Having absolutely zero experience with projects of any kind, it's scary how i happened across your YT page. Gonna attempt these next week probably.

Perhaps some felt pads on the bottom on the legs to protect the floor. It may still move a bit and wouldn't want scratches. Also, sand the corners and edges before paint/stain. avoid splinters.

I'm glad you guys are back. You guys disappear there for a little while. I would love to see a video on a blanket. Ladder, I'm a huge fan. I am 47 years old. Never touched a tool I have been wanting to build some furniture. Guys make it seem so easy. I keep coming to your page. To see if you've done something new. I'm plan on doing a couple of your projects. I will have lowes cut them and hope the measurements turn out correctly. Until I can afford to get a miter saw. Please keep the videos coming

This is a really cool idea. My house is completely wired for 10 Gb Ethernet. I may add a 10 Gb switch to this piece and internally mounted retractable 10 Gb Ethernet cables accessible from the top (or sides, doesn't matter). I like it.

what for do you need a rj45 plug behind you couch? For a laptop?

@@magnusstcg194 Laptops, yes. A lot of my work requires a hardwired connection so a convenient jack on the couch would be a nice addition.

I know this isnt very expensive to make, but $40 seems a bit low. The cost of wood is bananas, paint/stain and clear coat as well, plus the recessed USB's. Im thinking more around the $70 range? Regardless, great tutorial
@kylehalweg-be6mr11 ай бұрын
Maybe your area is pricier. In WI, $2/bd for Standard or $5 for Quality. Stain at $8 (95% of it leftover), $12 water based poly (98% leftover), couple screws, leaves you $10-$16 for the USB things to get to $40. Most projects aren't going to ding you the full $20 for stain/poly because you're only using a small % and can spread that expense across multiple projects.

Mine is coming in around $150, but it's 12 ft long with shelves, cabinet and 8" wide. $60 for wood, $30 for 2 outlets and a wireless charger, $20 for hundreds of pocket screws that will be used in future projects. $30 for hole covers for wires to go through, hinges, hydraulic supports etc. We already had prestain, stain and polyurethane which would have been another $25. $40 seems pretty reasonable for this plan, even in California.

The power outlets are $16.00 each on Temu. The 1x4s are between $2.10 to $11.79 each, depending on the quality. If I were to sell a finished build, I'd be giving it away at $75.00, and that doesn't include the bracing I would install at the bottom.

You can use a drill and drill a heap of small holes just inside the lines to make a big hole and use a file or sand paper to clean the edges up to the size hole you need. A little more work but it’s an option if don’t have the tools
