Theremin also made some very ingenious devices, like one given as a gift from a soviet school to the embassy of USA disguised as an art piece. The device worked like a wireless transmitter but with no need for batteries. The energy needed for the radio to operate came from an external source that could be switched on and off by KGB agents. It was later discovered by a janitor who noticed a couple of small holes where the microphone was installed. EDIT: the signal was first detected accidentally by a British radio operator.
