Chartreux The way I understand it is that a portion of the monthly subcription fee (around 5.00 or so?) is divided between all the channels you watch. For example, say you watch 3 ROTW videos and 2 Pewdiepie videos in a given month. ROTW would get 3 dollars, pewdiepie would get 2. Creators still get paid by youtube red even if their videos are demonetized.

I don't think it's broken, I think they are using it as intended. They want people to think it's just glitches and anomalies but it isn't. They are saving millions of dollars by shutting people down on this demonitization, and yet they are still getting everyone driven to their site and original content is being uploaded to their site for totally free since someone can't monetize it. Reviewbrah should honestly be one of the highest payed you tubers not only because he's a nice person but because he never uses click bait or does unnecessary actions for views. Hate to be a buzz killer, but ALL the major foods you review (especially BK) pay big bucks to Google, and want you dead, gone or at least demonetized. None of them want reviews, they just want to advertise, their being reviewed is a VERY new thing they are not used to, who ever did this before, right. It's also very sad how political & conniving YT has become, but at least there is Patreon. Keep up the awesome work though, we shall overcome.
