Voted No in the Scottish independence referendum and voted Remain in Brexit. However, if (when) Scotland becomes independent it will entirely be the fault of the English and Welsh. This has dealt a fatal blow to the union.

It is the principle of democracy. Every single Scottish constituency, as well as most Northern Irish constituencies, voted remain. It is not leaving the EU itself which will bring about the end to the United Kingdom, it was that the majority of the electorate in Scotland and N.I. wanted to remain. The democratic deficit in the country has never been so explicit.
@doodlebug8901

yet a majority of the people in Scotland voted to stay in the union so your arguments Bolks really.

The more I hear from Theresa May the more I like her. She had her detractors when she was voted in because she 'was a remainer', but historically she was a eurosceptic, her position during the referendum was merely her showing loyalty to Cameron. Since then she has raised exactly the issues that the British people are concerned about, namely: uncontrolled immigration, jobs for native Brits, sovereignty, families and working people's concerns over globalist bankers. I hope you stay on this same course, but for now Mrs May you definitely have a supporter in me.

To repeal the laws, you have to first own the laws. She's passing an act, to allow us to repeal, change or keep any EU laws, in the context of us being an independent sovereign nation, outside the EU with no obligation to follow EU Directive laws. Some of these laws make sense, they're in the UK's interests for trade, safety and a whole range of issues. Other laws, not really useful or sensible and we can abandon those.

***** It's difficult to understand your comment, sorry. The UK (public) has long wanted an exit from the EU, and we were never really a full member, as you pointed out. We were opposed to the Euro and many areas of EU policy. Not only is the common market out-dated it's gone too far from its original purpose. Economic unification hasn't worked. The loss of legal sovereignty, a top-down totalitarian-style government combined with the lack of any sensible or economically sustainable immigration policy are the dangerous aspects of the EU. Those were main reasons the British people seized their opportunity in Brexit. I hope other countries now feel confident in the coming years as we formalize our exit, to have their own referendums and exits.

***** You sound like sour grapes to me. The debate stage is over. We're leaving the EU, get over it. The EU has failed, is still failing and will fail completely. That's my prediction.

***** Watch the full video. The Prime Minister has outlined the timescale. Article 50 is being invoked BEFORE MARCH 2017. She's already passing a large piece of legislation ahead of that to re-gain full British independence over EU legislation. The UK is the 2nd largest economy within the EU. The UK's departure will potentially break the EU, or at the very least shake things up considerably, if the EU continues this silly "free movement or no trade" nonsense. We're quite happy to walk away from the EU and the single market completely. The EU has far more to lose than we do.

the unfortunate fact is that even though Parliament voted 6:1 for EURef, they could still slap it down and that would be a disaster. Personally, I think a lot of Labour MPs will be out of a job if they decide to vote against it.

Britain now has a Prime Minister that was never voted in by the British Public yet Britons had the nerve to complain that the EU commission was 'undemocratic' , even when they had members of the EU parliament representing them who were democratically elected. This whole Brexit thing has been a stupid endeavour multiple times over , and Britain just keeps shooting itself in the foot >_< .
@jackcarter6629
@jackcarter6629 8 жыл бұрын
+Riko1980 Nope, the Government was voted in. It just changed leadership. Nobody voted for Cameron, they voted for CONSERVATIVES and the Tories are still in power because they were democratically voted for. Democracy in the UK is nationwide voting for political changes. Referendums for example and in this case, change of political party to govern the country. Now you're up to speed and on the same page. Try to keep up.
@Riko1980
@Riko1980 8 жыл бұрын
***** The Tories were voted in with David Cameron being the leader of the Conservative Party at that time. He then went on to appoint people to their respective roles with Theresa May being one of many . Because that's the kind of power that is allocated to the Prime Minister , but you can't tell me for sure that it won't have made a difference if someone else was heading the Tories at the time of the election. Also that still doesn't refute my point , you simply corrected me on 'the basics'. The Britons already had democratically elected representatives in the EU parliament where they could ensure that not a single law could be passed without their unanimous approval. But they still felt they had the right to call the EU undemocratic. Whereas when David Cameron decided to step down the decision over who would succeed him wasn't even put up for a vote nor was their an option to have an early election given the circumstances. The decision was left entirely to the Conservative Party where only two people decided who was going to be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On a final note...you can take that condescending tone of yours and stick it mate.
@jackcarter6629
@jackcarter6629 8 жыл бұрын
Riko1980 Nope, with the UK representing just 8% of the vote in the European Parliament I'll stop you right there mate. The UK had no chance of stopping any law being passed with 100% disapproval with this small representation. The SNP has a larger representation in the House of Commons. Let me stop you before this point and swing you by your whiskers to a time before Juncker was elected President. David Cameron did not want Juncker elected and this is understating it. It was put to a vote and Cameron lost 26-2. Hungary was the only country which agreed with him. The ratio is the same with anything the UK votes for, they all vote the opposite. Granted, the Germans agreed with Cameron too but Merkel bottled it at the time of voting. Since then Juncker has victimised the UK, wasting no time to start the withdrawal of the UK Rebate. I am trying to keep it to "the basics" for you here. Blair gave up 20% of the Rebate until 2013, the year before the EU Presidential election. Cameron TRIED to nodiate a new deal but his opposition to Juncker's appointment to President saw to it he is dismissed at every opportunity. He even warned the EU he'll have no choice other than give the people of the UK a chance to vote against the stance of the EU via a referendum - it was a last resort. He had already been humiliated twice by Juncker publicly announcing the UK need not bother turning up for meetings. And nope,when people go to a Poll Station, nobody votes for a Political Party like you've been told already, do keep up mate. Teresa May won by default due to the other candidates stepping out of the running, they were all being voted for democratically within the Conservative Party ... not the 302 MPs mate, the 148,000 people with Membership of The Conservative Party mate!!! MATE! Boris was popular but he stepped down after Gove stabbed him in the back, this made him unpopular and allowed Leadsom to leap frog him in the leadership VOTING polls, yet she was still way short of Teresa May with 70% of voting. But the democratic process continued and we thought we'll have to wait wait until September - but Andrea Leadsom had the hairbrained idea to prattle on about herself being a mother and pointing out Teresa May never has been so, what was that about, "only two people decided who was going to be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom." I think I get the gist of what you were trying to say and you said it pretty loudly and I agree you're not very knowledgeable about British politics or what has happened in the EU since 2005.
@Riko1980
@Riko1980 8 жыл бұрын
***** I never presented myself as being an expert on either British or EU politics, I actually would be expected to be paid for that if I was. Nevertheless you don't need to have a masters in EU law to understand how horrible a decision the Brexit was and how even now its apparent how detrimental such a decision is going to be on the UK economy and its people in the long-term. I'm going to have to do more research before I get back to you with a more explanatory and complete answer. Til then I'll leave you with this - remember that Scotland voted majority to remain but were told to shut-up and bear it because the overwhelming majority of the UK's population , who of course don't even reside in Scotland, voted leave and that 'democracy had spoken' and the 'voices of the people had to be heard.' Well Scotland makes only around 8% of the total UK population , so why are the decisions made in the EU commission undemocratic simply because only 8% of the MEP are elected British . officials?
@jackcarter6629
@jackcarter6629 8 жыл бұрын
The EU Referendum was about the UK leaving the EU. Scotland is a part of EU. Scotland is not a member of the EU. To be a part of the EU, Scotland has to follow protocol and first win a referendum to leave the UK and then apply to be a member of the EU. This is very democratic. They were given a Referendum the year before last and the majority voted to stay a part of the UK. This was a democratic process. The Scots in the EU Referendum were British, voting on behalf of the UK - not Scots voting on behalf of Scotland. I agree it's in the best interests of Scotland to remain having the protection of the EU. Who knows what the real Government has planned for the belligerent SNP once they're at their mercy after Brexit is final? I am Nationalist myself, quite an activist in my day and have Scotland, England, Wales and N.Ireland tattooed on my forearm underneath a George and Dragon - real full on defiance to political correctness so I get why the Scots want Independence and why they need to stay in the EU ... but life sucks and the two Houses Of Parliament have to do their thing first before a referendum can happen. This they will not do while the UK is going through a massive political change and it could take years for the dust to settle. I'm all for the Scots to have another Referendum in time, but think it's pathetic to think it's possible to keep having one straight after another until you get the result you want. It's like wanting to call a coin toss until you win. The first thing I noticed with this new comment of yours is that you feel 8% UK representation in the EU is fairly democratic with the lives of 60 Million+ people being effected by the whims of ambivalent foreigners with their own self interests for their countries at our expense - but find 8.3% of the UK being represented by Scotland to be unfairly democratic with 5 Milllon lives being effected by fellow British people living with them, working with them, socialising with them, caring about them? As for Brexit it's too early to see if its a bad thing or not. We had no help from the EU during the Credit crunch of 2008, so a lot of good the EU Membership did there. They did not help Greece survive economically, they are letting Italy go the same way ... so personally I can't wait to get the monkey off our backs. Immigration isn't an issue for me, being governed by an elected British Government is. Foreigners abroad are inconsequential to me and so are their opinions about the UK and the British. So obviously I don't want the altruist aresholes deciding how many hours we can work, what food we can buy and how many refugees we have to employ, but this is just me. With the price of Scottish oil dropping to a record low, it is fortunate Scotland is a part of the UK and has the burden shared by the people of three other countries ... while nobody in the EU is caring. What you are trying to say about the EU is of interest to me, especially if you're Scottish ... so give it some thought please. I am British and always like to understand what my people are on about when they're ranting about things regarding the UK and the British. I can argue your point in discussions with others when I know what it is.

The Grammar School resurrection is very interesting, and the idea of the institution, conceptually, seems to me to be valid. I don't think the comprehensive school's system of talent compartmentalisation really works in practice because the teachers at the top aren't always prepared to really draw out and build upon the gifts of the gifted. My issue comes with the segregation coming at age 11, though. To be funnelled in such a significant way from such an early age is ridiculous.

I just don't see this going smoothly. Watching how the US Congress operates, ie nothing ever gets done in terms of our budget, I fear the European Union will not play fair. The two year completion target will probably get pushed out to ten years of bickering.

My understanding is that the negotiating process can't go on for longer than 2 years. If that happens, WTO international rules apply. That would actually be rather good for the UK! Much better than our current arrangement. However, that would really suck for German car manufacturers and other EU importers to the UK. It would be good news for US companies such as Ford because your cars would be relatively more attractive. Therefore, you should pray that a negotiation isn't reached!

In the parliamentary system the PM always has a majority of MPs so the vote will most likely pass. It's like if congress voted on who'd be President -

dothedeed The electorate have voted for Brexit. It would be a very 'brave' MP who stood against the wishes of the people. I know that Anna Soubry wants us to stay in the EU, but there is talk of her having the whips removed. I think that means that she might be kicked out of the party.

***** I think the Conservatives are doing very well at their party conference. My only qualm is that Hammond said he intends accommodation to be built on public land. I have a very nice local wood near me. It is one of my real pleasures to walk through it every week or so. I would hate to think that would be destroyed. I think Labour have missed an opportunity to not pick up on that. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they would go even further than the Tories intend to.

Right now, we may not see the Brexit's impacts, but for a long time, I think England can suffer some knock-on effects due to investment loss, the investors' transition to another EU' country. Besides, the foreign community living in England, they will find difficult with a lot of problems...

Our investment has gone up post Brexit because businesses know that the U.K is deep down a right wing country which embraces the free market ideology over socialism. The EU is always increasing regulation and protectionism which is a left wing model and is detrimental towards investors and business. Long term there will be no EU anyway. It's been imploding for years and the economic juggernaut that is Germany is the country keeping it afloat. Unfortunately Germany will lose the most with the U.K not being in the EU. If I were Germany I'd leave the EU, continue to trade freely with the U.K and not be brought down by the countries that aren't positively and economically contributing to the EU.

Germany is the EU and the main beneficiary: which is why the EEC was mooted by German industrialists as a postwar entity just prior to the end of WWII. France was conned into going along for the ride as were the rest of what would become the EU. If any other nation is benefiting from membership it is by default, but a glance at the economies of France Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy shows the real story. After two World Wars, Germany thought it had finally got control of Europe by other means but, once again, the UK has put a stop to their ambitions.

I must to go follow even just for a while to find a sentence of "their looking each other" so my following is being written below: Welcome Prime Minister - (with rushing like more programs awaiting pushing after - does not matter what is it) without more a due, because she doesn't like the reason main (TV man - this is not English language I am afraid) the fast he reason announcing the great reason to repay the bill, can you explain the people exactly what it means ? I just have spotted - bullying on public the Prime Minister !!! What the challenge is over the millions of viewers. No more comment just more delicate and intelligent TV professional workers, having respect in first instance: for human of God second: for woman of England third: for Lady of Care and Respect of Holy Trinity: fourth: for yourself if you are able to :) the rest is... Scotland may not even qualify for membership because its deficit-to-GDP ratio is nearly 10%. That's a lot of teats the EU will have to bring out for the sake of giving England a political slap to the face. Even if the EU goes for it, Scotland is going to get a nice big surprise when they realize the deal they get without the UK is going to be pretty bad. They are the weakest link in this whole situation, which is why they voted for cowardice. Good luck to them, but if they think anyone will actually want them if they leave, they're in for a nasty surprise. It's a shame really, a once proud nation being reduced to this. Let them vote, let them leave. Big deal.
