Something like that happened today at the swfl nest with E21 bonking E22. M15 (dad) went over and went on top and used his beak to touch one I couldn't see which one he was on top. Difficult to watch, now I know how my parents felt when all 8 of us kids would fight 🤣

This is awesome footage❣️ The interesting thing is that E3-02 isn't exactly innocent. When E3-01 came over to share some cuddle time, perhaps, it had it's beak bitten. Kids will be kids! 😀 What an incredible dad! I have seen things like dual feedings to distract the Rock Em Sock Em eaglets, but, this is a first! Wow! ❤️ Thank you for sharing this fascinating capture! 💕 Be blessed! 🙏🦅😻

Hello CC.. Good to run into you here 😍❣️I distinctly remember this happening in the SWFL best with Harriet and M15. E19 was bonking on E20 last season and It was M15 to the rescue.. He used his beak to pretend to have food/also play and distract E19 until Harriet showed up at the nest with food!! We love our eagle couples and Alex is just another dad using instinct to the max to protect their kiddo's!! Genius! 🤗❣️🦅

@@kathleenmccaffery1313 Hi KM❣️ Yes, M15 is a spectacular dad! I have seen him and Harriet use a lot of different things, such as you describe. Also, dual feedings, etc. But, this was a dad who wasn't on the nest at the time. It could be a coincidence that he flew in at that precise moment, but, then brooding the little one was a first for me, under these bonking circumstances where the fight was stopped by him hiding the smaller chick. All dads brood for protection from predators and the elements, etc. This was definitely a first for me. But, glad to hear you have seen this done before. That gives a lot of hope to those who feel that the younger chick is insignificant unless something happens to the older one. I've seen that comment way too many times. But, we know that at the SWFL nest, in particular, they have successfully fledged two, unless the egg(s) were unviable or the chick died from another cause. I can't help but think of Junior and the fact that s/he eliminated its sibling and the nest where the dad died and the mom was left to raise the two chicks where the older struck the younger so badly and it eventually was pushed out of the nest. I think it might have been DNR? Didn't follow last season and just saw a few videos. In both of those cases, the parents just looked on the situation and let it happen. My own feeling about those occurrences is that there was some weakness, disease, or, disability that made the parent look the other way, as it/they knew it wouldn't have made it in the wild. With no way for animals to seek medical help, nature has provided a way. Cruel as it may be, it fits with the survival of the fittest, and, at the same time gives the older chick an opportunity to learn how it must be able to kill to eat or when food is scarce, if it wants to survive. I believe the hawklet was brought in for this very lesson, but, as it turned out, Junior might have been the one that was too meek to make it in the wild. Only they know why they intervene or not. And, of course, their maker knows, as well! Very fascinating stuff! Hope you're enjoying life, KM! TC and keep on keeping on! Nice to have seen you here as it says your curiosity is still intact! 🤗 Be blessed! 🙏 🦅😻🥰💕

I don’t think that is likely. There are always exceptions, of course, but Bald Eagles generally only commit siblicide if there is a serious food shortage. And even then it’s usually starvation and not physical attacks that cause the death of the younger eaglet(s). I’ve seen this behavior many times and in all cases both eaglets have ended up successfully fledging.
