Just saved me from getting scammed by a dealer. I’m here in mass. Looking to buy one soon thanks for the video.

I live in Japan and when i was looking for a project (old porter cab) I was talking to a small shop that restores old acty‘s (for Japanese and not export) as well as a family friend who specializes in restoring Mazda. They’re opinions and just putting two and two together I think you’re completely right about the scams. Atleast from the perspective of Japanese guys who work in the vintage car sector and me speaking with anyone who knows about kei trucks because I want to find an old porter. Most of them sat in junkyards for decades so the middlemen bringing them to auction have to forge papers, throw them together with mis matched parts etc. The ones at Auction are impossible to register in Japan just because of all the issues with paperwork, often missing stuff because they were scrapped cars (I almost bought one naively). Americans dealers often say in videos that the timing belts go bad but it’s really only because the engines have been sitting in the sun the last 20+ years, often near the coast in the salty air which is why they are all rusty. (Japanese don’t salt roads in winter) Another big deal is that these dealers in the USA often don’t have business licenses in Japan and export them as private vehicles. Bc of car theft becoming a problem in Japan, they’ve been working with the US and the US has been pulling titles from cars and charging importers who don’t have Japanese business licenses. I recently read in Florida importers just went to jail for doing exactly what alot of these mini truck dealers are doing. I’m lucky to be able to have a new attack as a daily, but as far as the cute old ones, the good ones are gone, all that’s left is junkyard touch ups, yet the American dealers keep charging more and more. If you want a truck without issues you really need to buy one of the few trucks left on the Japanese second hand market to be sure you’re not getting ripped off. If it’s got Japanese registration you 100% know that it’s paperwork and condition is good enough.

Crazy that can register in some States,not others,and has to be 25 years old.Pure protectionism.In the UK,we can drive new,and in any road.I have been driving these for forty years.

I agree with everything but the tires. 10 ply truck tires are not going to give the best ride! I've got Accord/Prelude 13x4" steel wheels with 155/80x13 passenger tires cheap, and readily available- you can even get whitewalls! Beyond that, I think the point about not running them flat out on the highway is huge. KZbin videos of cross country trips may leave the impression that highway driving is fine. It isn't. My first trip after recomissioning my 91 Acty Street G involved a JDM meet an hour away. On the way home, it was clear I had a sick truck. One rebuilt engine later, I found that running fl;at out results in burned valves. Hopping on the intrerstate for a few exits is fine, however.

It just lugs with bigger rims and wider tires. The thinner tires really give it traction

I plan on buying an Attack. I live n the Wyoming Black hills off the beaten path. They allow these Kei trucks to be registered the same as side by sides and driven on the roads and not interstates. We have thousands of miles of trails and gravel/dirt roads. In order to make the truck a bit more “ off road capable “ , how much of a lift /atv tire combination would be possible without sacrificing too much top end and power ? I have seen 2” suspension lifts and 23”(?) atv tires installed that would seem to do what I would need it to do. It requires 4wd to get in and out of my house and to the county gravel roads and we do get a fair amount of snow and mud.

Zero.. lifts make them all drive like trash. Easy to flip, wobbly, hard on suspension. These trucks are good offroad but they really rattle themselves to death on washboard roads. They are still a street car at the end of the day. I never get stuck but i also go slow in rough areas like 10mph. They are best for paved 35mph - 45mph roads.

Snow on the other hand... it's an absolute monster! Best with a stock tire size and toyo m+s tire.

@@TheRichardOlson …that sucks ! I have an older 6x6 side by side that I use for getting wood and into places I probably shouldn’t go and need something with more creature comforts for traveling 28 miles to town and hunting that has heat and roll up windows. Spending $35,000 plus on a new side by side is out of the question on principle only. If I were to go the Kei truck route what do you think would be the best small improvements to make it off road worthy besides the Toyo tires ?

Only today I was talking to a guy who brought in an Acty. He said he got his tyres in from Italy as they are popular size on some old 4wd Fiats over there. They were knobbly thread tyres. Hope the may help you. Hello from Ireland.

These only go 50? Is there way to make them faster ? 65 would be ideal. What about the different makes, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, etc… just now getting into these and looking to buy. My MAIN question is, is there an option to add AC. I have found some amazing ones on market place, however, I live in south Florida, we HAVE to have AC down here.
@ObamaoZedong6 ай бұрын
Top speed is actually around 65-70 stock

Why do people spend their money on such rhd tiny trucks while you can get a decent big practical truck with the same price
@hummer61744 ай бұрын
I mean they are extremely slow, bed size are too small and the lack of spare parts support make such purchase not worth it at all
