Dirt is not an electrical superconductor. Gold is one of the best conductors in the world but we can barely use it because it is rare end expensive. @@slew9900 That's with old technology, we could likely reach the asteroid belt within 2-3 years now, so it would likely be 4-6 years round trip. The transition would have to be slow but if we started now we could probably have enough supply from space to completely phase out surface mining by the 2060's or 2070's. Also the quantity that they can get from asteroids is a lot more, especially if they can figure out a way to pull one into Earth orbit and mine it there. But yeah if you have 100 billion dollars there are probably better investments to choose from that have better ROI within 5-10 years, asteroid mining likely won't have an attractive ROI for another 15-20 years.

Gold is the best conductive material on earth and in space. Satellites, motherboards and so much more needs gold and the way they build them is using gold where it's needed with limits. If a creator had that gold he or she or it could create hard drives and tech chips that have the capability to perform 100/1 meaning that 1 hard drive could do what 100 could and so on with many other devices and creations in tech. in the future, no one will wear gold unless it's in Neuron chip in there head. Let's say a human is blind! A Neuron chip can control artificial eyes. When asked about mining resources on Mars and bringing it home, Elon has said that it's not worth it because of the sheer distance and cost of transportation. Seeing as this asteroid is much farther away than Mars, I don't think it's likely he's actually planning to mine it, especially not in 2 years with the current technology. Study it, maybe. i dont think gold can get inflated because they derive their value differently than paper currency. the dollar is dependent upon the actions of the federal reserve, central banks, global factors, and the general health of the economy .gold has value because of its scarcity and many modern uses. for example: Jewelry - A majority of gold purchased by consumers is made into jewelry, and this has been the case over hundreds of years and across the world. Its durability and resistance to tarnishing makes it a durable and stylish metal. Electronics - Since gold is a great electricity conductor, small amounts of it can be found in a number of electronic devices, including cell phones, televisions and computers. Medicine - Gold is used in a wide range of medical treatments, namely its isotopes for some radiation treatments. Additionally, crowns and other orthodontic fixtures are often made in gold since it is non-allergenic. Space - Gold is also used on the insides of space travel vehicles to help shield occupants from high heat or radiation. Awards - Gold’s high industrial quality also contains aesthetic appeal. Some of the most recognizable awards are made of gold including Olympic medals and the Academy Awards. go for it Musk

Well either way even if it’s price drops to almost nothing, that is still a big supply of resources that can be used to build things that need to be strong

Bingo !!! There are a very small percentage of the commenters on here that understand the value of what you are saying here. I made a similar comment and not one person got it. Everybody seems so caught up in the economics of it all. So short sighted.

So the RARE earth elements on that asteroid would definitely be a positive thing. Right now a lot of rare elements are, well rare. And in hostile places.

Why would gold drop in value 🤔gold is used in tech around the world and if space, Mars was colonies than gold would have a bigger value because of technology 🤔🤣😂can't bet against gold 👇👌💥

@@joyhouse5934 The value would drop drastically because we would have so much of it. The only reason why gold is valuable is because it's rare and it's a finite material. Wood is used a lot too. But it's not that valuable because you can just grow more trees + we have a LOT of it.

@@JadeDustineLunas No...... gold is worth something because it rare having mass amounts of gold would make it worthless. Salt and sugar use to be the price of gold in the past now its almost worthless because we have so much.

@@petrosp3466 no. Gold is not expensive for being rare. Just like how diamond is not rare but still expensive because it is useful

Gold is valuable because of its rarity. When and if they ever get to mine it, it would create a huge surplus therfore diminishing its rarity and value.

Scarcity is what makes gold valuable. Having lots of it makes it less valuable than what it really is.
