Dirt is not an electrical superconductor. Gold is one of the best conductors in the world but we can barely use it because it is rare end expensive. The day someone mines this asteroid the price of gold will drop to the ground, but the advances in technology it can carry are enormous, and the first company to use that technology will become rich or richer even if the price of gold goes down.

@@slew9900 That's with old technology, we could likely reach the asteroid belt within 2-3 years now, so it would likely be 4-6 years round trip. The transition would have to be slow but if we started now we could probably have enough supply from space to completely phase out surface mining by the 2060's or 2070's. Also the quantity that they can get from asteroids is a lot more, especially if they can figure out a way to pull one into Earth orbit and mine it there. But yeah if you have 100 billion dollars there are probably better investments to choose from that have better ROI within 5-10 years, asteroid mining likely won't have an attractive ROI for another 15-20 years.

no bro, the future is tech and tech requires a lot of gold. in fact, humans aren't able to create what we can imagine as the gold needed is not here on earth or at access without a huge cost inland and so on. Gold is the best conductive material on earth and in space. Satellites, motherboards and so much more needs gold and the way they build them is using gold where it's needed with limits. If a creator had that gold he or she or it could create hard drives and tech chips that have the capability to perform 100/1 meaning that 1 hard drive could do what 100 could and so on with many other devices and creations in tech. in the future, no one will wear gold unless it's in Neuron chip in there head. Let's say a human is blind! A Neuron chip can control artificial eyes. We have the tech already it's just doing what steve jobs are done with the iPhone... innovating to create a revolutionary piece of kit! we have the tech there its just putting the dots together.

For the cost of mining it and bringing it back down to Earth to be used as a monetary asset, it would have to be worth a lot more than it is now. I think just about everything mined in space would stay there, not dropped down the gravity well of Earth. If Armstrong happened to land on the moon right next to a pallet of gold and a pile of regular moon rock, he still would have come home with the moon rock. (ok, maybe a brick or two, just to prove that it was miraculously there)

What would you rather have, a thousand ounces of gold worth a million dollars or ten million ounces of gold worth ten million dollars?

When asked about mining resources on Mars and bringing it home, Elon has said that it's not worth it because of the sheer distance and cost of transportation. He said any resource mined on Mars is better used there than bringing home. Just think about how much it costs per trip to space and how little can be carried to space per trip. Seeing as this asteroid is much farther away than Mars, I don't think it's likely he's actually planning to mine it, especially not in 2 years with the current technology. Study it, maybe. Idk about mining. Unless its orbit brings it much closer. But I'm not a scientist and I don't know much about astronomy so I can't really say. Lol

It’s in the asteroid belt it won’t come in without help (impact or towing) but no point bringing back to earth not because of the distance but the fact earth has a deep gravity well not good for leaving or arriving. Mars is a lot easier.
@gcpins
@gcpins 4 жыл бұрын
@@calummacleod4416 it takes more much energy to get off the surface of Mars than you might expect. It would be much more efficient to use a small probe or other device to propel the asteroid closer to Earth, or even just have a long term mission to mine at the asteroid without moving it. Going to and from the surface of Mars, and returning with considerable amounts of gold inside wouldn’t work either. The wouldn’t be any point in bringing back smalls amounts of gold. Bringing back enough of the gold on Mars to be profitable or even just cost effective is unrealistic.

i dont think gold can get inflated because they derive their value differently than paper currency. the dollar is dependent upon the actions of the federal reserve, central banks, global factors, and the general health of the economy .gold has value because of its scarcity and many modern uses. for example: Jewelry - A majority of gold purchased by consumers is made into jewelry, and this has been the case over hundreds of years and across the world. Its durability and resistance to tarnishing makes it a durable and stylish metal. Electronics - Since gold is a great electricity conductor, small amounts of it can be found in a number of electronic devices, including cell phones, televisions and computers. Medicine - Gold is used in a wide range of medical treatments, namely its isotopes for some radiation treatments. Additionally, crowns and other orthodontic fixtures are often made in gold since it is non-allergenic. Space - Gold is also used on the insides of space travel vehicles to help shield occupants from high heat or radiation. Awards - Gold’s high industrial quality also contains aesthetic appeal. Some of the most recognizable awards are made of gold including Olympic medals and the Academy Awards. go for it Musk
