All major religions and many tribal religion india can't be ruled by single religion person or single ethnic groups . The president of India holds the same power over India as Queen of Britain has on Britain, Australia and Canada.

You do realise that the Indian state didn't actually build the property. It was built under British rule (you know, colonialism) with Indian taxpayer money. So after independence, was the Indian state supposed to vacate the building or at least they could use it for some purpose, i.e. the President's house. Why did they build it and not care about the poor people? Don't ask us. Why don't you ask them?

To all the concerned individuals that while many starve, what's the need for such extravagant structure. First of all, see who built it and why (and when, duh!) Second, it is the home to India's president (BTW, who is the first citizen of the country) doesn't mean it is his private property. It functions in government's operations, ceremonies, hosting, etc from local to international levels. It is a workspace/office/hotel/lounge and whatnot for the top world leaders. Speaking from experience, in business/diplomatic interactions, ambience plays a humongous role. This communist mentality that if a section of society is poor then the president of the country should also live in poor conditions is pathetic (search how leaders of communist states live). And then try organizing a meeting with x number of world leaders (to invite them for investing in your country, business/military/strategic partnership) in Karen's living room serving them with cheap snacks and asking them to share rooms. We'll see how many will try to strengthen relations with your country thereafter...

Glad you pointed it out mate. But isn't the President a puppet of prime minister in india? Why don't they give that palace to PM?

Great Video, But it makes you think about how many homeless people could be saved if money for places like this could be used to build homeless shelters across the world, instead of spending it on one unnecessarily large structure, we need to give everyone a chance !!

The video is talking about how much the cost to build the entire complex, not the intrinsic value of it. There's a big difference. All the values you put on those other palaces are very subjective and based mainly on its historical value and importance. That's also not to mention the priceless collections of arts they contain.
