SevenBarAdventures I already did. And recently passed mot and received number plate for my overland Volvo C303 and finally start traveling. Nej det får man inte på alla ställen, på vissa ställen är det ok över 2000m Sen finns det oskrivna regler att man inte får slå upp någon camp innan 20:00 och den skall vara riven innan 08:00. Vad som gäller i just Kroatien får du söka på, vi bor oftast på så avlägsna platser att det finns ingen där som säger att vi inte får.

Sometimes our people react "allergic" to this kind of music, because we are often short-circuited with it by people. @@SevenBarAdventures I understand that viewpoint however if one travels totally at random one will find many impassable tracks, locked gates and dead ends. OK if you have unlimited time and patience. I always download a selection of tracks from Wikiloc.com which I use as a starting point. From that point you can explore as well.

I do my basic planning but rely heavily on trails published by others because the accuracy of unpaved roads on commercial maps and satnavs can be dreadful. However to do this one needs to share data with other travellers on a "give and take" basis. I use Wikiloc a lot but there are other siimilar sites too. When I am in the target region I start exploring if dissatisfied with the downloaded trails.

Nice trip. Lucky you didn't get caught camping in the wild. It's forbidden in both Slovenia and Croatia. I know, I have been dragged to the police station and fined, specially near or at the coast in Croatia. The first time I was dragged to the station was when I was 16 (more than 30 years ago). I live in this neck of the woods, but don't go anywhere anymore. Camps are expensive and crowded both in Slovenia and Croatia, and it causes any number of inconveniences with the law if camping in the wild.

Well, I thought so too. Then, just in time to have dinner, the police comes around, collects your papers and gives an hour to clear camp (pots, pans, food and everything) and come to the station ...

Not much, about two nights of camp fees worth (about 50 eur) in Croatia. But it made me never come again. I've heard of people being "smart" with the police, and they were dragged in front of the judge the next working day ... In Slovenia it's even worse. 15 years ago, in a group of 4x4 from my club, we were chasing the last snow of the season (not to drive on, just for a snowball fight). We rode a logging trail for maybe 30 minutes. Upon the return we were already met with the police. The club was shut down not long after, because there was no more places to go on trips, and convoy driving is not allowed on public roads (except for the army and police). You see, in Slovenia you are forbidden to leave a public road for more than 5 meters (or you must have a written permission from the land owner). And not all gravel roads are public, in fact most are not. You are welcome to go on foot, but not in a car.
