This piece is one of the more popular parts of the Ring-cycle. I think it's because it's kind of similar to a verse- pre-chorus -chorus structure of rock music. The verse starts at 0:44, the comes the pre-chorus ("Ho-ho! Ho-ho hohei...!") at 1:01. The chorus is "Blase, balg...!", then an instrumental response and the repetition of the whole form. So maybe that's why it's so easily accessible.

My complaint though is the two singers sound too similar- there should be a greater contrast between the character's voices

It is tricky considering both the Baritone's role and the tenor's roles intersect in the middle of the song.

@Gaigaia and therion is metal and there the instruments are much more important. Wagner had pretty good music, but it is too often behind the not so good songs. I like Therion way better

sas147741 ¡Muy contundente tu respuesta eh! ¿No creés que la música debería estar al servicio del público y no de los compositores (que en este caso, por cierto, está muerto)? Therion generó un hecho artístico a partir de la obra original de Wagner. Evidentemente no lo encontrás satisfactorio, y está bien que así sea. Pero eso no implica que no puedan explorarse estas variantes musicales, y muchísimo menos si es por no "ofender" a un autor del que ni siquiera sabés si en una de esas disfrutaba esta versión. No, no creo que a Wagner le gustaria escuchar su musica tocada por un ensemble orquestral minusculo, con un energumeno haciendole power chords arriba y un bajista electrico tocando (mal) la parte de una linea entera de contrabajos y un baterista del cual mejor no digo nada. A los musicos de la "orquesta" claramente les miras las caras y tampoco les gusta lo que estan haciendo, pero bueno, de algo hay que comer. Esta gente deberia dejar de lado su ego y sus ganas de tocar esta musica para la cual claramente no tiene aptitudes tecnicas para arreglarla ni mucho menos hacerle justicia, por que sinceramente en mi opinion esta gente se piensa que esta sumandole algo a la obra cuando en realidad lo que estan haciendo es algo asi como ponerle un boxer al David de Miguel Angel.

sas147741 Aunque te parezca difícil de creer, somos muchos los herejes que disfrutamos esta música. También disfruto escuchando las versiones "tradicionales" de estas mismas obras y tantas otras. Lo que no logro entender es por qué debe haber un camino binario de todo o nada. Cada versión aporta lo suyo, sus propias características. Pero bueno, ya sabés entonces que si querés deleitarte con música clásica seria, debés apartarte de Therion (al cual podés acudir cuando tengas ganas de escuchar unos power chords en su hábital natural).
