before watching your videos ive never been able to grow anything. I always killed them. Since you have been my "tutor" lol.. I have grown 13 bell pepper plants from saving the seeds from a supermaket pepper. I am so proud of my self because this year with your help ive grown lettuce (not too well because the leaves always end up floppy), beetroot, radish, peppers and ive got cabbages, kale, broccolli and cauli in pots outside now. I grow all this food because ive got lots of rabbits and guinea pigs and you have saved me so much money. I use 1 and a half peppers everyday for The guinea pigs. I cannot tell you enough, how much you have helped me so thankyou.

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Nope, unfortunately i just missed the cut off- Planning to have a bit of a trial run with the soil in the garden (Brick and morter wall about 6 houses long collapsed last year, and the rubble got mixed in with the soil whilst we were clearing it annoyingly, so the drainage isnt very good anymore and likely the PH is absolutely buggered, not to mention being a very clay dense soil already) this winter by planting a small patch of garlic, as ive heard its fairly resilient and can safely be forgotten about for the most part. Ive been binging your channel recently, and already ordered plenty of bits for fixing the soil and getting the garden back to being, well, a *garden* instead of a vague green wasteland where weeds rule and we have to fend off housecats with pointy sticks lol ^^

Keep plugging away! It takes a while when you're beginning from scratch. When you miss a planting date, a good use of your time is making compost or building infrastructure like a new raised bed or simple water collection system.

@@racebiketuner Thank you! thats the hope, although space is limited and much of the garden space has been paved over. Would you happen to have any recomendations on videos about the water collection system? I know my grandfather had one, but its currently like 15 miles away and full of water so stagnant that hisses "kill me" if you get too close to it lol.

Great video, love that you are in Canada! One thing I do with my grow bags that are taller than need be is I roll the sides down. This way I can fill with less soil, saves time and money :)

In deep pots/bags especially for leafy greens, I fill the bottom half with a mix of garden soil and compost. The rest with my own potting mix (50/50 compost and coco coir with a little perlite and worm castings). Nice top 5 but I'd go for Chard rather than Spinach as in many areas Chard can be grown year-round where Spinach needs cool weather. Excellent video. 👍

I’ve been growing food for a couple of years now but tbh I don’t think I do very good with much of it. Just small harvests in my opinion. I think I would do better to learn how to do a few crops like you suggest here and do them well. Then add to that once I’m doing them well. This year everything’s been rubbish here in the uk due to the weather but I know that’s not due to me. Last year I had lettuce too a t not this year. So trying again. Got some growing inside and some outside in my covered shelving unit- I’ve also brought a 2nd covered unit with fleece that you can change the covered on fleece or like pollytunnel covering. So need to get that set up. Then gonna move my troughs of raddish in there and see if I get a harvest. Along with some other bits and bobs I have in pots that I hope will give me an earlier harvest next year. I have cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, kale all growing in the garden bed

@@binduliyanage1521 hi Bindu, that's completely normal. Garlic sprouts when it's above freezing, not much we can do about it. Some people wait a bit longer to plant so that it's cooler out and the shoots don't develop as much. Just make sure to mulch abs the plants are normally fine.

I started planting everything in pots after gophers ate my mulberry and fig trees. Now I lose goodies above from attacks by squirrels and raccoons. I wouldn't be surprised if a rat or mouse came through even though my yard is very clean. I'm ready to give up but I will try to follow your instructions on growing garlic indoors

Just sow lettuce seeds like carrot seeds and thin out as they grow. Or don't thin out and you have lots baby lettuce.

I managed to kill mint, lettuce and zucchini a few times before I finally learned what I was doing wrong and how to do it right. Now I have the healthiest and happiest garden I’ve ever had and harvest something almost every day. For the longest time I thought I had a black thumb and it was hopeless. Turns out it was a skill issue, which is fixable with education and practice.

@@nharber9837 The reason I picked pole beans is, all you really need to do with them is water them. I've grown them in the ground, raised beds, in buckets, a hanging basket, and last summer in nearly pure clay. I literally had a spot beside my shed that wasn't occupied so I put some bean seeds in there. They got enough water from run off from the roof of the shed. I have 5 solar powered garden lights (crappy ones) in my shed and they have remote solar panels. I mounted the panels on a metal pole thats probably 9 ft tall. They managed to find that pole, went nearly to the top of it, and made a lot of beans. I didn't do a single thing for them all summer. They were either Kentucky Wonder or Blue Lake. I can't remember which one. I didn't even harvest the beans from them because my runner beans had a great year and we just ate those. LOL.
