Great video! I loved your in depth explanations of how to loosen the venturi tubes (or in my case it was a slotted circular ring requiring a spanner wrench!! of all things...easy to repair... lol) . What I cannot believe is the stupidity of the design of these potentiometers and their placement, esp on my stove (25 yr old thermador- lots and lots of problems have replaced the innards 2wice now in total...) And 25 years later, they still have the same (D+ if they were a student in a design class) pote-ntiometers all the while selling kits to fix the issue Man, they been hussling kits to fix those for 30 years now!

If only 1 of the 2 XLO burners is not working.......... can I just replace the single Potentiometer ? or do I need to replace the simmer part as well. THANK YOU

I have a Thermador model # SGCS365RS which is the 5 burner version.

We have a Thermador model # SGCS365RS. One simmer burner was not igniting; and I consider myself blessed by not having an explosion. I used liquid wrench and other penetrating fluids as well as torch heating, and the rear, center Venturi never loosened. I easily removed the other 4 Venturis, & was able to lift the front of the cooktop high enough to replace the pot for the non-working simmer burner. With vice grips, I rocked (as advised) the center rear Venturi until it rotated, but it never backed out. It never dawned on me that the gas line to this burner may have broken off while I was rocking the Venturi back & forth attempting to back it out. After replacing the front center simmer pot, I turned on gas and electricity & (even with the replaced front center simmer pot) noticed that now, neither of the two simmer burners would ignite. (Fortunately no explosion) After viewing another U-tube showing someone drilling out a similar Venturi on another cooktop, I used a dremel tool to cut off the brass flange so that i could raise the cooktop over the cut Venturi. At this point, I realized that the aluminum gas line was broken at the brass connection to the Venturi frame. With the Venturi frame in a vice, & vice grips clamped to the Venturi brass & a torch, I have still not been able to unscrew the Venturi.

Scott, Awesome video for those of us with these issues. My issue maybe similar, but as I replaced the potentiometer, I uses a screw driver to pry off the connection, because the exposed brass in the potentiometer, there was a minor spark and now those burners don’t work. I’m hoping you could lead to me some fix. If there a reset file just replace the dimmer control board?

Scott, I need to replace part Bosch 422749 POTENTIOMETER, my burner clicks and provides a spark but will not light up. Can I replace that part separately or do I need to replace the whole kit? I think you've talked about it but I want to be sure. Also I don't think they sell the kits anymore. Thanks in advance for your help.

It appears that this replacement part is no longer available. If that is the case , is there any way to convert these two simmer burners into regular burners so that all five burners work and not just the three regular burners?

Good question, I’m not sure . Usually they send you two new potentiometers and a new simmer control

Thermador does not make the simmer control and potentiometer kit anymore. Is there an aftermarket kit?

@@308alaska I was on hold for over 20 minutes and then they hung up on me. I went to the website and entered thermador simmer controller and found very little. Only a 00645446 Bosch Stove Range Oven Cooktop Gas Simmer Controller Spark Module CONTROL UNIT that does not even come close to what I am looking for. A shame that I have to throw away an expensive appliance working well otherwise because they don't make the simmer controller anymore. I will not buy Thermador again.

@@davidyoung6404 i have a themador oven that cost me $4500 it 20 years old light use--the oven-broiler-top burners have a mind of its own- the gas just pours out the oven without lighting-very dangerous- 2 techs aready worked on it 6 service calls about $1500 so far and still not working correctly--i think it might be just junk--the new model is $9500 it will probably be junk in 10 years--so beware

My wife just had to have one of these thermadores. It sure is nothing but a very expensive piece of junk. Waste of stainless steel that would have been better served as a stall in a public restroom.
