Fantastic summary, thanks so much, it included loads of things I've been wondering about when trying to decide how best to cool my RTX 3090.

Thanks for the video! I asked a bunch of youtubers about this in the comments and you were the only one to make a video on thermal pads. Super helpful information. Now I just have to decide to get 8w/mk, 11w/mk or 17w/mk pads of varying thickness. 8 is way more affordable than the other two, might just go with those for my gpu's.

So the reason I had to open up my $2000 RTX 3080 to put new thermal pads on the VRAM modules was because Gigabyte cheaped out and thought 110C was acceptable performance. Nice!

Would be a nice experiment to try using some 3M double sided tape as a TIM. I've got it under my DDC holding that Zalman sink. I'll add a temp mod to see!!

Why not double sided thermal tape? I wouldn't buy the wrong product when they make the correct product.

Hi DazMode! I saw your video on why one should not use PETG tubes with coolants that have glycol 6 years ago. Want is your take on this now in 2021. Do you still feel like the coolants being made now are still not compatible with PETG tubing?
@DazModeWatercooling
@DazModeWatercooling 3 жыл бұрын
I thill think PETG is trash. Every year few customers having major failures due to deformation, resulting in leaks and hardware loss. As glycol goes, chemistry did not change, but practically it not as bad I was thinking.

Good info as always Daz. Have you ever used a high quality thermal paste between your thermal pad and your chip? If so did it help with temps? Was it noticeable difference, or did it just keep the pad stuck to the chip while assembling?
@tacticalcenter8658
@tacticalcenter8658 4 жыл бұрын
From what I've seen, it's better to use a higher # w/mk pad than to use thermal paste with a pad. I could be wrong though.
@DazModeWatercooling
@DazModeWatercooling 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it can be good idea because the two can chemically react or one dissolve other.

Hi Daz! New sub :) - Hoping you can help: I am putting the EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra hybrid kit on my card and I want to replace all the thermal pads. EVGA doesnt tell me the length of the strips I need, but they did tell me the thickness. I was told Memory = 2.25mm Thick - VRM = 2.85mm - Back VRAM = 2.0mm Id like to buy FujiPoly but I dont see any manufacturers that sell these thicknesses, though Gelid sells 3.0mm. Would you suggest putting high-quality thermal grease between two thermal pads - or simply put two layers of thermal pads together. Any tips for the EVGA thicknesses listed above?

How big is the radiator of the hybrid kit?
@ryanpietroski343
@ryanpietroski343 3 жыл бұрын
@@greggreg2458 its a 240mm rad. I replaced the two EVGA RGB Fans on it with 4 x Noctua iPPC PFC 240mm 3000 RPM Radiator fans in push pull. All thermal pads replaced with Fuji Poly 11mw/k pads, and the entire copper block is slathered in Kryonaut Extreme (4g.) I also put additional Fuji Poly pads out the outside of the Backplate, and on top of the GPU’s backside, then covered them in custom heat sinks. I have 2 more Noctuas dedicated to directing cool air directly over them, as well as my Mobo VRM… I averaged 2.115 in games and can push the memory up until it crashes, somewhere around +1400-1500, but I run it daily at 10.2 GHz. GPU never breaks 50c. Backside maybe 53c. Hot spot is no more than about 62. Hottest VRM or VRAM hits about 70-72c.

@@greggreg2458 ease of use. The benefits of a custom loop vs that setup are extremely slight. I may do it in the future though! My i9-10900k needs attention first though. Even a 360mm x73 Kraken with 6 x Noctua Fans (17 in total) in push pull has trouble with that beast above 1.37 -1.39v I’d have to do 3 x 360mm rads in full push pull to gain anything worth the effort, much less the cost.

@@ryanpietroski343 I had a 2080ti waterforce (240mm rad hybrid) going watercooling allowed me to drastically lower noise output (and around 10C) When i read Noctua 3000rpm i almost had an heart attack, I run my fans at 750rpm max. My 9900k is overclocked at 5.2ghz (45/50C while gaming) the problem with Intel CPU is the tim, i went direct die and the difference was massive.
