Why hunt coyotes?
As 4th generation ranchers and farmers, hunting coyotes is not just a hobby or a pastime for O'Neill Ops. They have a duty to protect the cattle that they raise for food. For them, predator hunting is not merely a sport, but a way of life.
Coyotes are presently the most abundant livestock predators in western North America, causing the majority of sheep, goat, and cattle losses. For example, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, coyotes were responsible for 60.5% of the 224,000 sheep deaths attributed to predation in 2004. The total number of sheep deaths in 2004 comprised 2.22% of the total sheep and lamb population in the United States, which, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service USDA report, totaled 4.66 million and 7.80 million heads respectively as of July 1, 2005. Because coyote populations are typically many times greater and more widely distributed than those of wolves, coyotes cause more overall predation losses. The United States government agents routinely shoot, poison, trap, and kill about 90,000 coyotes each year to protect livestock.
Coyotes typically bite the throat just behind the jaw and below the ear when attacking adult sheep or goats, with death commonly resulting from suffocation. Blood loss is usually a secondary cause of death. Calves and heavily fleeced sheep are killed by attacking the flanks or hindquarters, causing shock and blood loss. When attacking smaller prey, such as young lambs, the kill is made by biting the skull and spinal regions, causing massive tissue and bone damage. Small or young prey may be completely carried off, leaving only blood as evidence of a kill.
In the absence of hunting pressure on coyotes practiced by rural people, urban coyotes are losing their fear of humans, which is further worsened by people intentionally or unintentionally feeding coyotes. In such situations, some coyotes have begun to act aggressively toward humans, chasing joggers and bicyclists, confronting people walking their dogs, and stalking small children. Non-rabid coyotes in these areas sometimes target small children, mostly under the age of 10, though some adults have been bitten.
In a recent incident, KZbin personality Logan Paul’s dog, Kong da savage died after being attacked by coyotes in Los Angeles. According to Paul’s Instagram story and security camera footage, a pair of wild coyotes appeared in Paul’s front yard causing Kong to start barking. The coyotes jumped the fence to the house and that was the last time Kong was seen alive.

2015 my grandfather's farm in Madison was attacked by coyotes, chasing after the calves right inside the barn. Most of them were new born, which might have been the reason behind that "raid". Though we found out they actually dug a spot from the side of our barn for weeks now, just made things easier. Joined with my uncle and his friends' hunting parties the next day. 22-250 was coyote-specific and almost everyone (in those parties, at least) used that, but all I had was .223. All hands patted down more than 40 coyotes, and they didn't return until next summer. We lost more than 20 calves from that night, even some cows got their foot mangled. I wasn't the only one who cried at that scene. They don't afraid of us anymore, so this "population control act" is the only answer until we have better way around. If you want to call it cowardice, then imagine yourself as a farmer raising stocks since ever, and think of that scene when those things breach into your farm without any prejudices. Take pride in protecting your property, or go elsewhere. Prayers don't raise food to our mouth.

@@heatherleavitt8736 no what it is is him saving his livelihood. Every cow coyotes kill costs a rancher $1500 or more sometimes a little less. In some places even the ranchers arent safe. About 10 years ago in Montana a pack of 35 coyotes went to a small cattle ranch where an older couple only had 5 cows. The coyotes slaughtered the cows and when the rancher went out to investigate why his cows were screaming the pack attacked killed and tore the man to pieces all over the place then they turned and charged the house breaking through a window and killed the wife and 1 of their grandchildren. Now you should put yourself in other people's shoes instead of acting like a fool. People have had to fight off attacking animals ever since we started colonizing this country but you don't hear the old stories of small villages living in fear because there's a mountain lion or coyote pack or wolf pack hunting the people in the village. In fact if society keeps going you wont need to learn how to protect yourself from packs of people insomuch as you'll need to learn to protect yourself from the animals when they start taking back the hunting grounds. Instead of being a stupid naive city girl you really should realize you know nothing of what you are talking about! We do not live in a Walt Disney world where all animals are your buddies. If you think humans are savage then you haven't seen a pack of 6 hyenas tearing a family of 4 including 2 toddlers to shreds. That scene was a vicious bloody mess the only big pieces of the kids that was left were the skulls. So do us all a favor and just shut up!

A lot of a packs size depends on available food in the area. Think of it as a strip mall with food….you have 3 shops with enough food to feed 1 person then one shop has a buffet to feed 100. Where’s the crowd? Cows do offer a lot of food Via themselves from sickness, calves from birthing, and the birthing leftovers. Then you’ve got the farmer Bringing hay to his cattle which in turn bring varmints. Sheep farmers have it much worse a coyote can take on a grown adult and win. It’s a thin line of management

Yes in some cases the pack attacking the farm numbered nearly 100 coyotes.there have been a couple incidents where they raided a farm and killed everything including a family of 8.they wiped out 40 head of cattle chased the owner and 2 sons into the house gained entry into the house by jumping through windows and killed everyone.the police said it was just a tragic mess 1 of the officers was crying because the coyotes got hold of a 4yo girl and just strung her all over the room they cornered her in.

darpat there have been only 3 fatal attacks by coyote first one was in 1923 and 3rd one in 2009. There have been about 3 other attacks that were none fatal. So they rarely attack humans. Mainly because of their size and weighing about 35 to 45 pounds.

For the people complaining about the time to kill, remember that there are several shooters, syncing shots on several targets, trying to hit small fatal spots like the heart or brain. If they miss, the shot can be non-fatal, inhuman, or whiffed completely. They need to do maximum damage in a small amount of time, before the rest of the coyotes are alerted, run away, hid, move out of range, so many factors that the shooters need to consider for the best shot and maximum effect.

Hi, I live on a 140 acre farm and these coyotes are faily .... how do I say it... abundant. Could you tell me the exact scope your using to obliterate these cyotes? I am most likely going to invest in having this scope (I know it's about 4-7 grand) but the scope will pay for itself over maybe 5 years.... which is worth it.

I watched the entire video, replayed a few of the kills. I said "nice shot at least 30 times." Good timing on multiple target hits, made sure to not scare them off and have to wait for regrouping. Solid shot placement each time. 11K dislikes is obvious when most people from around the world have no clue what this means and what it entails. I like the optics, that thermal with the edge feature is really nice.

@@liquidminds For example not really far away from us the bears came back to the area where they were actually extinct. People were happy but when the population got a little bit bigger they started to say "Nah they are not that cute as we thought....KILL THEM". They didnt really atack but people are afraid of a BIG grizzly bear not of small coyotes (untill they wont meet one :/) People just dont want to hear the truth they want to hear what they want and the world is not made of cotton candy, rainbow unicorns and friendship. Like if we imagine a situation in the wild where an animal gets hurt by another one and it dies they say its normal bcs of natural selection. But in places where the role of natural selection are hunters they say that they are making it for fun to kill animals only bcs they hate them or something. Im shure hunters love animals too but they are smart enough to tell that if they wont help this selection other animals will suffer because of coyotes that are killing every thing they see bcs they need food and at least dieing of huger bcs they ate the most herbovores and so suffer more from hunger sickness and other stuff killing people. Sounds like chaos.

In rural Saskatchewan, home of world class whitetail and mule deer, coyotes have become a serious problem just as you've described here. The problem is that, due to our ridiculous gun laws, suppressors cannot be used. You take out one, two if you're quick, and the rest scatter. My late father used to work for the DNR (department of natural resources - who knows what it's called now) and would respond to calls from farmers, towns, and villages where coyotes were killing calves, sheep, and even young horses. Coyotes have lost their fear of humans and have been seen many times running off into the night with family pets. Dad used a Remington 22-250 that he had spec'd from a custom builder that he used. He loaded his own shells and loved helping those being harassed by these varmints. Thanks for the upload!

Archi Dokh yeah then scavenger birds will eat the coyotes and die then rotting corpses would plauge the land. What works in the Moroccan ecosystem won't really work in the North American ecosystem. All in all shooting them is the best way to do it.
