You see all these positive reviews, and I do think it's a great kitchen device, (even though many people - not here maybe - got their unit for free in order to do the review.) This is a great seemingly unbiased review. My bottom line opinion is that its cost/benefit ratio is highly variable depending on each individual's personal situation. This includes aspects such as cooking skills/enjoyment, available time, financial, and depth/breadth of cuisine interest. For me, the 1-2 hours I spend every night cooking dinner after doing complex tasks in front of two computer monitors all day is my mental Yoga because I love to cook, from scratch, and most of the time, without a recipe. I love the feel of the knife in my hand. I love the challenge of having 2-3 things cooking on the stovetop at once. Now if I were someone that had other interests I wanted to free up time for and didn't enjoy cooking as a hobby, and a $1,500 USD counter-top high-tech kitchen device is within my budget, this could be a Godsend. Overall though I tend to think in our modern world we all have a bias towards liking new technology and exaggerating, at least a little, its actual life benefit.

Thank you for such an in-depth independent review. I was definitely thinking of upgrading from my T31, but as I like cooking my own recipes I think I shall go for theTM 5 instead as it is an attractive price now. I doubt many commercial chefs would be interested in the instructional recipes, the TM6 would lose a potentially lucrative market. Two models catering for two very different users would have been a better strategy.

I'm not sure about the new TM6, but my wife and I only bought the TM5 about 3 years ago and just the other day the shaft that spins the blade completely sheared off when using the machine to create a simple smoothie. I called up the customer service and our consultant to get a replacement blade and they both said they wouldn't replace the blade because it was out of warranty and that the blade is an ACCESSORY. I'm pretty sure the definition of ACCESSORY is as follows (taken from a dictionary): "a thing which can be added to something else in order to make it more useful, versatile, or attractive." If I am not mistaken, the blade is the core function of the thermomix and without it, the machine is completely useless. That is by definition not an accessory. And if you are expected to pay over 100 dollars for a new blade every couple years because it breaks, then why would anyone pay for the massive over 2000 dollars investment in the first place? People pay that kind of money to get a good quality product. The blade completely shearing off means my machine is absolutely useless now. It is a massive paper weight. That doesn't sound like a good quality product. Most good quality products also have substantial warranties. Why does Thermomix not have a warranty for the integral parts of their machines for the entire life of the machine? Good quality products also have great customer service. That's also something else I felt Thermomix was lacking when trying to get this problem sorted so my wife and I could resume using the thermomix. The customer service rep that called me told me that THE BLADE IS DESIGNED TO BREAK BEFORE THE MOTOR so that you don't have to replace the expensive motor. That is fine and all, but I was just making a smoothie when this happened. It's not like I was trying to grind a brick into dust. I am a structural engineer and while you definitely take into account ways a structure can fail, you don't say that you have designed the structure to fail under normal every day loading conditions so that you can replace it for cheaper!! Sure maybe work needs to be done on the building, but a broken thermomix blade is the equivalent of my whole structure becoming unserviceable. The consultant that sold us the Thermomix definitely did not tell us that the blade was designed to break before the motor. If I new this, we definitely would not have bought one. How about you make this right and send us a replacement blade and take responsibility for the product you are selling?
@sharleendavis73205 жыл бұрын
If you are Australian you have rights under the Australian consumer law - goods must be of reasonable quality and last for a reasonable time. Tell them this- they will try to say about their warranty but just tell them you have a statutory warranty that is in Legislation. They will replace it because by law they must. If they still refuse tell them you will lodge a claim in a tribunal (qcat for Queensland) and enforce the order in the Magistrate’s court and you will make sure to notify news and facebook about your claim. They will replace for free.

I can’t believe I had to buy new tyres for my new car after 12 months! Hardly an accessory, as you cannot drive a car without tyres can you? And I paid $65,000 for it. Unbelievable 🧐
@littlebrownbird34615 жыл бұрын
The blades are designed to "strip" as a protection against burning the motor out, however they can do what yours did simply because they have reached the end of their life. I believe it is suggested that the blades be replaced every three years anyway, regardless of whether they are still functioning well.

Could you use the "blade cover" to keep the chunky pieces of the slow cook away from the blades? The blades would still spin and circulate the fluid, while the large pieces would remain intact and be heated/cooked?

Hi Sophia - thanks for such a detailed and excellent overview. I would love to see you do a comparison of the TM6 with the Magimix Cook Expert. I have a TM5 and use it a lot, and I don't mind the babying so much, as I like the automated steps which helps my husband to use it (lol), but it drives me crazy that the bowl is so narrow at the base and I can't see properly into the bowl when mixing etc. The Cook Expert overcomes these issues with a glass lid and a much larger capacity, wide-based bowl. Having said that, I don't think it has integrated recipes which I think is disappointing for me. Are you thinking about doing such a comparison video? I'm so on the fence about which way to go here. I'd be happy to go with the TM6 but the capacity etc is an issue for me as I like to do a lot of batch cooking. Please let me know what you think? Happy for comments from others if you've done this comparison. PS I already have a 4200XL magimix chopper/food processer and I know that the new cook expert comes with one of those, but I bet that the bowls from my existing unit don't fit the cook expert (at least then I could've had two sets of bowls!) Any thoughts/comments??
@tarzoun695 жыл бұрын
Dear Margaret. For me it is the opposite problem. I have a Magimix which I really love because you’re not stuck to the Cookidoo mode. If you want easy recipes to follow you can download a iOS or Android app named cook expert. You can look by yourself on your dedicated App Store. But because of this my daughters 16 and 14 don’t use it as often as I would like them to. Instead they order delivery food which I would like them to get away from and learn how to cook for the future. That’s why’s I’m looking into the TM6 for the easy use in following an online recipe step by step.

Hello Sophia! Thank you for a very thorough review. This week I started thinking about buying it for the first time, I think it could really make the day-to-day easier in the kitchen.. But your review kept me thinking a lot on some of the downsides.. Why bother to spend more 700€ than a Moulinex Companion if the scales need so much repair? (So I've heard..) I really thought this would be very superior in quality, after making some research, but then you talk about the limitation of Cookidoo, and that just pisses me off.. It kind of reminds me of Apple's marketing strategy, you spend a lot on a product but then neet to spend even more to get all the features. Does anyone knows if we can upload recipes to the machine outside of Cookidoo? It seems we can't.. I would really like if you could make a video now, 1 year later, and tell us about your experience.. Have those issues been resolved with updates? Anyone outhere that has a TM6 and may help?

@SirScarecrow Thank you so much! I have been watching a lot of Thermomix videos and also realised that. It seems that the scales' sensors are really sensitive and people are not that very careful with them.. Also heard that some people clean it with products that are too abrasive, and that's not good.. It seems like a very good machine but for that price it shouldn't be so sensitive as well :p

Hi Rita. I am a Thermomix advisor, and some parts of this review needs updating. The issue about the cookidoo login has now being resolved and it works really well. Vorwerk is consistently updating recipes and improving the functions of the machine. They listen to its customers and the deliver. If you are in the UK, I could offer you a demo. My email address is cleverlyeasycook@yahoo.com. You won’t miss cooking with 3 or 4 pans and having to do all the washing up ;)
@herbertwilliam84802 жыл бұрын
There is a problem with the marketing method of Thermomix, and the influence method of MLM indirectly causes the price to be too high. The limitations of Cookieidoo are also part of the marketing strategy. There are many TM alternatives on the market today, Tokit is one of them. I have learned that the brand has a reasonable operating profit and is very cost-effective.

This is a great review. I've never had any Thermomix model. I also don't like the idea of being bound by the Cookidoo recipes and I don't want to pay for the subscription every year. I wouldn't mind paying one year and then keeping that set of recipes and never updating them. I also think it's ridiculous for them to charge extra for the blade cover (for sous vide and slow cooking) when the unit costs $2100 already in Canada. It's not even the cost, it's the principle. I also don't think that it will sear meat before stews properly even though it can go up to a higher temperature now than previous models and I almost always do that when I'm making any sort of braised dish. And then the cost is just a bit too high to seem worth it. For me, it could replace a number of other appliances, but it wouldn't total up to $2100 worth.
@SquidandCatAdventures2 жыл бұрын
@Terrey Yulianna Yes! I wound up buying a Tokit too. Great to hear it is working for you for your carmelizing. Tokit also made the mixing bowl wider at the bottom for better high temp cooking (like "stir fry" too). Having a good time with mine. Steamer set (added accessory) also has a great capacity because of the two levels inside. Enough for plenty of dim sum.

Hi Sophia, I own a TM6 since almost 1 year, and follow your KZbin recipes on a regular basis. I was wondering : the white matt/platter on which you put your TM6 ... is it only used to move your TM6 slightly, or does it also minimize the noise which the TM6 makes when you have to mix some ingredients at speed 9 or 10 ? Or is there another kind of platter/matt which can be used to reduce the noise ? (PS : I live in Belgium)
@claudiaw92465 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the candid and thorough review, Sophia!! I got so excited when I first heard about the TM6 that I was considering *finally* replacing my trusty TM31, but now I'm thinking of keeping it. I love, love, love the extra precision of the TM6, especially the scales -- as I'm sure you remember, the TM31 goes in 5g increments up to 100g, then switches to 10g increments -- and the extra temperature control is nice, too. And I'd love to make honeycomb, yum. But I'm really fond of my TM31 with all its buttons and simple display; it has all the bells and whistles I really need, so I'm thinking of just upgrading it with as many compatible TM6 accessories as I can. Speaking of which, do you happen to know whether the TM6 MC fits the TM31? If yes, I will buy it as soon as it's available. I'm also going to pick up the TM6 spatula. (I already have the TM5 butterfly, which whips so much better than the original.)
@sophiapeace5 жыл бұрын
So glad I could help. I’m so sorry but I don’t know whether the TM6 mc fits the tm31 off the top of my head. I have a feeling the opening on the tm31 is smaller but i would have to measure it.
@claudiaw92465 жыл бұрын
@@sophiapeace If you could measure the opening on the TM6, that would be most helpful! Then I would just have to measure my TM31 to see if it's big enough. I guess the other question I have is whether the new MC threads into the TM6 lid, in which case it wouldn't work with the TM31 even the openings are the same size.

TM31 is the best, built like a tank, no fancy features that can complicate things, gets the job done just as good as TM5/6 and it much cheaper. A second hand one is 500 euro in Denmark and it will last you 20 years or more. When it comes to what really matters TM31 is best bang for your buck, TM5/6 is also a good investment but I just don’t see the value in paying 1000 euro exta for a display with some recipes or a 160 degree frying function instead of the usual varoma (120 degree Celsius). I’ve had my TM31 for 9 years now and works like the first day I bought it.

I think people are misleaded by all the additional functions.. Devices like the thermomix, magimix cook expert or kitchen aid cook processor are incredible at making emulsifications, sauces, pastes for curries but i would stay away for browning carbs. Also thermomix locks much functionality behind it's presets. Magimix and kitchen aid doesn't. I know they're trying to market these machines to novice cooks but i think going back to basics and just use a frying pan or sauteuse is a better way and more likely more tasteful way for cooking carbs. But as mentioned earlier: Sauces, pastes, veloutés or purees will help out anyone greatly in machines like these.

This would be great for people who are not confident cooks who need that hand holding or to expand their repertoire. I find the babying thing in quite a few of these new devices eg google home hub recipe functions that only let you use recipes from certain providers. It’s frustrating when the hardware is so capable! A lot of the issues could be remedied by a software function or a new accessory which just stirs rather than chops as well.

Great review, but I fell the TM5 is far better.. I especially dislike the new TM6 “feature” where they lock you in to paying an ongoing registration for access to recipes/to use their machine. They now have full control over your use of this appliance, why would anyone purchase a TM6? Have they done anything to make the scales more reliable? The most common fault with the TM5 is that the sensitive scales (feet) of these units are easily damaged and require expensive repairs. With greater accuracy in the TM6 models I can only assume this means they are even more sensitive and prone to failure. Accuracy down to 1 gram is no use to me unless it works for more than 1 year. These features aren’t enough to move people on from their TM5’s.

Thanks for the review, I was approached to buy a TM5 at a very reduced rate. I already have one, but haven't liked the slow release function of the lid when cooking stops. Thanks to your review, I know the release is slightly better on the TM6, so that is a winner for me. Not sure about the compulsory cookidoo though. Look forward to your final comparison video.

Withholding functionality is a real turn-off. Not that I care about those functions, but it's the principal and not a good look. That said, this is one cool machine.... and the design is stunning. Thank you so much for your comprehensive review. Great content!

Hi all. I just discovered the Thermomix and it struck my curiosity. May I ask users what benefits one can gain from using an Instant Pot 6P (with the souse vide function) and a Ninja Blender with the food processor attachment? That's the combo I have right now. I steam my food either in the IP or over the stove. The IP also have a fermentation mode which is how I make my yogurt though I proof my dough in the oven set low or just at room temperature. Is it just the set recipes function that make this item shine? I'm moving to another country from 120V to 110v so I can't bring my IP and Blender with me. Was wondering whether the Thermomix will be a good option despite the higher costs. I also believe that the Ninja Blender doesn't mill as well as the Thermomix.

Thermomxi should come out with one, where the settings are set automatically. For example, add ingredient and hit next, - It should set up the speed and temp automatically. then it should say next ingredient. hit next for different setting automatically. for safety there can be an auto mode or manual mode

Hello Sophia, THANKYOU so much for your awesome review, very helpful. My daughter owns a TM5 and has loved it , using it most days. She has always encouraged me to purchase one, which I have not yet done. I have been really encouraged of late though and have made a final decision, Yes my kitchen and I will most definitely benefit to own one, I am waiting for the TM6 to be available to purchase this one. So essentially the new modes are a bit useless and don’t offer anything new. Slow cooking is still done better in a slow cooker. Now they’ve provided scales that are actually accurate and have provided a bigger screen. A TM5 secondhand it is then.

At the very least I would have expected the frying and caramelisation functions to be included in a recipe in the free basic cook book which is loaded on the machine. I don't think they should be charging a yearly fee to be access all the functions. Professional chefs like yourself and those passionate about cooking will be annoyed they cannot create there own recipes.

@gogogagetname5 жыл бұрын
Here's the thing...I can start my pressure pot from the garden and get notification on my cell when my one pot meal is ready. It adds convenience and if my pressure pot is going to blow it won't do so in my face. Kidding aside, smart appliances allow remote notification and control of the appliance. It's handy for some uses. The upgrades from TM5 are "good" but this could have given an extra reason to upgrade and secondly the TM6 already connects to my password encrypted home network, they could have took the extra step and have it connect to other devices on the network. As for risks, I have kids and drive to work everyday so I know there are risks everywhere.
