watching a time lapse of a ship being built helps me visualize the process so much better. I’ve struggled with where to start; and hulls and as such I’ve never built anything more than a tiny patrol boat. I’ve done a ton of modifying existing campaign ships, my fleet is mostly old obsolete, or outdated onyx watch and dwg ships I’ve updated, overhauled, and modified in various ways. Playing with those ships is also fun because I adore their designs and styles. But it’s probably time I start working on making my own larger ships from scratch.

Just to let you know, for realism purposes (idk if it is a thing in the game) don't build angles such as the one at 2:01 because if a shell hits it it can bounce right off and go into the less armored deck, or turret bearings.

If a shell hit that angle in this game and bounced it would hit the deck and get trapped in there which would guarantee it would detonate right at the deck on top of the turret bearing (or worse penetrate the deck right above the turret guts). Ricochets in this game aren't exactly like real life, but if a shell does ricochet it will go in the appropriate direction.

Smaller cannons could be used with very fast rounds, like Sabot or Solid shot, or packed with explosives and a HEAT cone to improve damage.

It varies person to person, you can attribute the word “battleship” to anything 50-500m long really. There isn’t a set standard.

Metal alloy is 5x the price though. Keeping costs down is essential for something this big to be viable.

Turret B would act like a bullet catch, thats a term for tanks or other IRL armored vehicles and such where the armor plating has a likely chance to deflect projectiles back into a vehicle. imagine the bottom side of a tank turred being sloped like the top, a shell comes in and bounces off the thick turret armor, but into the much softer chassis roof near the crew entrance port or something. Turret C is similar but not as bad. I'd take Turret A, and "Dimond plate it" try and break up the flat surfaces by putting waving slopes where they can fit. a sharper Lip at the front and sides and waving slopes on the roof. /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

Try to have at least two layers of material for armor, even if its just wood. Try to avoid using 1m long blocks. This helps your craft survive a little longer. Don't place turrets on wood. Place them on a stronger block like metal. Those are just a few I could think of on the spot

@@averin1745 I find that after building the basic shape you should spawn some enemy ships to fire at it and look at where the most heavily damaged parts are and where the most lightly hit ones are. Use cheaper and lighter materials on the bits that aren’t shot as much and heavier armour on the bits where major damage usually occurs.

Why put armor on the below deck half of the turret? I understand putting extra armor on the front half of the below deck area but armoring it on all sides below deck decreases how much room you'll have to add autoloaders, clips, railgun parts, and recoil absorbers as well as slightly slowing down the turn rate.

@@ballparkkenan That makes sense, I can see how that would work to help against hesh or heat, I usually put pipes in the hull itself to stop heat and hesh instead so I don't really need to worry about heat and hesh damaging the weapon itself, though for when the armor fails 1m of metal isn't much compared to simply killing your enemies faster so they can't hurt you as much, but I guess that's more of a side benefit than the main point.

you should not put your main guns on wood. wood is really weak and if you had crams go under you and explode or torps and then you would lose your main weapons. i love the ship thoe looks amazing. and i love your vids. just was thinking you should know that becouse it may couse problems

How many hours did this take you? I love FTD but I'm sad to say that I've realised that I never fucking finish anything that I start lol. I start building when I have a cool idea, but it always takes me just a bit too long and I kind of burn out - and once I've stopped building a design, I am never interested in coming back and finishing it. I'll always just start a new interesting idea when I do come back to the game
