“We should have declared a national emergency on weight in the black community two decades ago” ... Wooooaaahhhh Let talk about it!
@noble604
@noble604 4 жыл бұрын
And let’s talk about the real life systems in effect in the Blackcommunity that contribute GREATLY to what’s going on with Blackpeople. Everyone loves to point the finger and bash Blackpeople without discussing all the factors Blackpeople deal with. He lightly touched on the trauma issue but there’s real, deep, generational trauma and real, actual daily pain in dealing with life in this country... pain that’s being numbed with food (particularly by Black women. Blackpeople who are overweight are the same as other people ...eating their emotions because it’s more socially acceptable to hurt yourself and your own body and become “invisible” or push people away and become “undesirable” just like you told yourself rather than to work through the STUFF and deal with that new reality and see how much you can do without excuses, a shield or a wall.
@noble604

Also .. and I can’t say this enough .. as of 2016 nearly 21% of white Americans were in antidepressants www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/one-6-americans-take-antidepressants-other-psychiatric-drugs-n695141 and since we can look around and see people haven’t gotten “happier” in the past 4 years, we can assume this number is higher now. It’s easy to look at Black people and see the weight and see the depression but there’s a whole big segment of America that’s on pills for theirs and we don’t see it. Just saying, there are a number of different ways America is “coping”.. food, big pharma, weed, alcohol, porn etc
@noble604

And speaking of national emergencies in the Black community, Blackwomen make 62c for every dollar paid to a white man. Dollar for dollar, pay Blackpeople equally .. not last hired/first fired/not promoted/no raise given .. but pay dollar for dollar and see if “Black diets” don’t get better, not to mention a whole lot of other things lol

Thick does not mean fat. In the white community, you call it being voluptuous. Serena Williams is thick, but she is not fat. White guys seem to prefer women like Melania Trump, a tall skinny woman with a flat butt. Look at what you call supermodels, a woman who is so skinny that it looks like she might faint at any moment. Many African, I refuse to let you Europeans reduce us to a color, women who are overweight become that way from eating what is known as soul food, which is loaded with fat, sugar, and dairy. Ribs, pork chops, potato salad, oxtail, food seasoned with bacon, pork, butter, and deserts with lots of sugar. Kool-Aid and lots of biscuits are a favorite also. I am 79 years old, I am 5'11" tall, and weigh 174 lbs, I was down to 167 lbs before the pandemic hit. I live in Texas, the badonkadonk capital of the world, and the diet of the African population here is loaded with artery-clogging fats. Many African women will not exercise because sweating will mess up their hairdos, and they will not go swimming for the same reason. Hollywood is pushing obesity, LBGT, vulgarity, and violence. Now young people are being fed images of fat women wallowing around on the stage in g-strings on TV and in movies. Oh, excuse me, I forgot, I am now supposed to refer to fat people as being plus size. The majority of the people who succumbed to the virus were overweight.

Something for ladies to consider is don’t just stress about losing weight. Try to build some muscle mass also. Become firm and strong, you are not below that. What has kept me loyal to fitness is the joy I get from being a strong human being. Has little to do with getting a man, that’s just a benefit. If you’re trying to lose weight to get pretty, it’s going to be a lot harder than if you’re trying to lost weight to build your body up to do the things you want. You want to dance, climb, play sports, keep up with your kids, hike to the top of a mountain, anything, you can. Do it for you and men are the cherry on top. Fitness is joy.

She obviously had a lot of different issues and thankfully I was able to cut the relationship off without a lot of drama but it's crazy how some women think that them being obese is "better" than a man being just overweight, meaning "less" obese. Real talk...fitness is important. Bad bodies are a manifestation of bad thought processes and low self esteem. As a fit man I desire a fit woman because I realize that fitness translates into us having a functional ( as opposed to dysfunctional ) relationship because we feel good about who we are as people and when we feel good about ourselves as people we can bring that love and high vibration to our partners.

I agree with Kevin on this, it's time for us to stop glorifying fat, I've lost A LOT of weight, most of us were raised on poverty food and carried that poverty mindset into adulthood, I'd never go back, it's not cute, it causes issues etc etc. I notice women are the only ones cheering for "BBW'S". Likewise our men are having a hard time financially because many men were raised by single struggling mother's on welfare, that poverty mindset carried over to a lot of black adult men, our ppl have PTSD, many of us only seen struggle love and toxicity, this is reality, truth needs to be told. I think that coupled with the whole idea of sexual liberation have really done some damage. I'm not here to shame anyone but together I think the two ideas pitch a narrative to women that no matter how much you weigh or how promiscuous you may be you DESERVE the BEST men. I'm not suggesting women should be mannequins or have to be completely celibate but there is a clear difference between a little bit and excessive. Together a portion of the opposite gender then literally believe they are entitled to the best men simply by existing devoid of putting in any form of effort or cultivating morality or...willpower. The irony is so much of what these women lack is all men truly desire (loyalty, cooperation, discipline, wholesome companionship just to name a few) and they are all fairly free to obtain; problem is those things requires some kind of effort and holding themselves accountable, Whoops.

Oh man, this one hits HARD. My store manager in the past, who happened to be a black woman, always described herself as "curvy", but she weighed more than 230 lbs at 5'6"! She weighed MORE THAN ME, a 6'1" 220 lbs guy in the military! When I asked her whether she did anything for fitness or diet she deflected. She's 35 or so, and I worry that a lot of women with the same problem will barely make it to 60. It's the same crazy movement about "body positivity", and I get that different people will be different in size, but when someone is morbidly obese, people need to realize there is a problem. Men who fetishize women who are obese are not helping either. You should care about your and your partner's health.

Kevin is not my fave but he has 3 solid points here: 1. Working on the weight issues and find out why the weight gain has happened and how to become much more healthy and get to a weight that is healthy for their height. 2. Going to counseling to deal with the emotional trauma women and men are experiencing. Mental healthy gets ignored in the black community and its killing us slowly and needs to be addressed head on with action and that involves therapy. 3. Women becoming more curious about men and what they need as human beings. A relationship should be about learning how to relate to one another and how to becoming much more open to discovering how to be better partners. Increasing emotional intelligence as well is a major key in becoming more curious.

I didn’t watch the whole video and maybe he addressed it fully there but here he does not address the WHY. In far too many Black communities there is zero access to supermarkets. There are food deserts and public transportation and the family is buying their “meals” at a corner store/mom and pop market that sells processed food, no vegetables, junk, soft drinks and chips. Meanwhile the other communities will have three supermarkets within 2 and 3 miles. This also leads to children who aren’t fed nutrional, balanced meals and they don’t learn to eat well and since their eating patterns and palates aren’t established early, they grow up craving this Standard American Diet with flavorants, chemical additives and GMOs. It’s far deeper than just being “lazy” or “unaware.”

No lies here. I actually talked about this with my boyfriend the other day, just the importance of staying healthy and in shape for both black men and women. I see nothing wrong with a man wanting this from his woman. If we as woman can demand a man to provide financially, which I absolutely agree with, we definitely gotta keep ourselves up in the physical. One of the few things we can control as people is what we put in our body, so we gotta be more mindful. Once you start living a healthy lifestyles, it transforms your mental health and confidence so much.

Losing weight is a person’s choice imo. I’d never require it of someone. I’m losing weight because I WANT TO not because I have to or I’m a moral failure of sorts. I do want to feel beautiful to me and be more confident. That’s more for me than a partner though. Personally, I have started thinking I want to be with someone who will understand being overweight/obese. If say they are or were overweight/obese or they’re just tolerant for some other reason. To be okay if that’s how I am because I am pretty obese actually. 30lbs smaller, but still pretty obese. Though at the same time, I want to be with someone who will also want to lose weight or encourage me to do so. Encourage not force or expect me to be a tiny girl when and if I do not wish to be a tiny girl. I was as a child, but even if I continue to lose the weight, I’m not sure I’ll be able to get back to that tiny girl. I was actually a little too tiny (underweight) back then too. I want to have similar interests basically and right now one of my interests is weight-loss. I want to be healthy and I do not want to watch a partner die from preventable health issues. So overweight is okay in a partner imo, but being past a certain weight is not. The weight being so bad the relationship would be more caretaker than wife (if I get married). I may not wish to be married. That’s when I’d say it goes too far. I don’t want to play nanny/nurse to someone who is meant to be my life partner.

These brothers have to lead in this area. Most men are in no position to confront their woman about weight. They are obese themselves and don’t have any interest in being healthy. Men have to understand that our influence on our women is powerful. But we must be leaders in all areas of life first. If the majority of African American men were healthy the women would get on board. I see it all the time with my clients. When the man gets in shape the spouse will soon follow because no woman wants to look “out of place” her man or feel left behind. 💯

I think most Black men have a physical preference for Black women. They're the most attractive women. The problem is, that there is a lot of masculine energy in Black female culture, that plays into the image of the angry/independent black woman, "who don't need a man". Added to that many BW give their best years and sometimes their Womb to Bad Boys and over look the smart, hard working black man (who isn't as exciting as the wannabe 2pac). Those smart black boys get into their 30s and start to earn good money, go to the gym and get picked up by white girls. I know this doesn't apply to every situation, but Black women can sometimes be their own worst enemy.

When we practise in hospital, most of the patients are fat, literally 9/10. And not even that old, 40+ has still much to live. This is such an issue, and it should be one's priority to be healthy. I see often times women online being like I'm fat but I'm good, I'm healthy. No you're not, no way. The symptoms just haven't shown yet. There's interesting rule our teacher told us: if u look down standing , and you see your belly, you have insulin resistance. That's pretty much cause of most of today's health troubles.

Both sides hsve issues here. All men are not select. In fact I'd say that most on here complaining are not. Just like physical beauty isn't necessarily all that it takes for a woman to be wifey material. Looks, money, and status isnt necessarily an indicator of a good husband/father. The average person of both genders need to relax their superficial standards, humble themselves, and do the work necessary to make themselves happy, whole and complete. As men and leaders, we really have stop putting so much emphasis on sex and our notch count. Think about it, Its like we want a wholesome woman (at least with a limited sexual history) for marriage.... But we will still damn near require any woman we want to date to have sex with us fairly quickly. If she doesn't, then we will find those who will. 🤔imagine if every guy ....select or non select did thst? Wait...we do. And now look at the catch22 we create not just for them, but us as well. If we aren't planning on marrying her, thrn we shouldn't be having sex with her....we're messing it up for thr next man who might actually be interested in raising a family with her.

But we as men cannot call these men out....and even if we do it doesnt matter.....she's gonna do what she wants anyway. I csnt blame women exclusively because if the roles were reversed where it was much easier for the average male to get laid than the average woman..... we'd probably put unrealistic expectations on them as well even though we ourselves weren't really much of a catch..... Something has to sink in for people to take action. After having a child I was told I was fat. Well, that hurt like hell, so I enrolled myself in the YMCA, going there 7 days a week until I lost all the weight the person that made the comment hated my guts and then I kept my “lifestyle.” That was 23 yrs ago. I am still going strong and I got even better. Went full vegan! If I tell you my age you would not believe me. There is action and reaction. I could have gone into a corner and cry because I was called fat, but instead I chose higher ground.

I can afford to not live in a food dessert, shop at Whole Foods, buy organic, get a gym membership, and pay for perks like a FitBit. Many of those who aren't as privileged as I am cannot do that. When you look at health and weight across socioeconomic backgrounds REGARDLESS OF RACE the wealthier tends to fare better in ALL races. My individual access to resources has allowed me to have an accountability for my waistline that those who don't share my background dont have. (P.S. I gained 40 pounds during the pandemic. I couldn't work out effectively, because my gym closed April 2020 and is still closed. My lover was so grossed out, (Black man raised in Compton, CA) that he dumped me for a white woman, and pulled me by my hair and threw me into the Los Angeles freeway. He called me all kinds of names, and yelled no one wants you! He drove off leaving me stranded in the middle of the freeway. I will never be in the company of another man, after that. I will however, start working out again as I have relocated to Switzerland where the gyms are open. I have started with ginger and tumeric tea and exercise.

I’m Latina. I went into this McDonald’s in Texas where most of the employees were black and overweight. I asked for a salad and they said they didn’t carry those, so I just ordered a crispy chicken sandwich, a fry and a water. The older black lady looked at me and said “you on a diet ain’t you?” No ma’m, eating healthy isn’t a diet, but a lifestyle. Of course, I assumed she wouldn’t understand or care, so I just smiled and said sure. Maybe it’s an American thing but mostly everyone assumes you’re on a diet if you eat vegetables or drink water. Way different from Sweden where that’s the norm. Sad.

There is some validity in this discussion. However, I was a single mom - size 10 to 12 depending on the day. I dated many good, successful, handsome men. I ended up marrying a hero that loves me and my (our) son w/o question. There is a beauty in blended families. There is work, but it's beautiful. Just saying for any woman out there that feels like she has a scarlet letter because you have a child or children out of wedlock - God's grace is bigger. You can have the relationship you desire.

This pandemic has been a blessing for me. I work from home now work 8 hour days and I can focus on me...lost close to 30lbs, fitting into clothes that havent been able to wear for the last 3 years. I look better and feel better. Ladies take of yourself first...be consistent and disciplined and the rest will follow. Yes some men like thick women but not all! And some ladies expect the same from a man. I do, its more about health and the quality of life and being to enjoy life with that person.

This may be an issue with our people, but this is NOT THE MAIN reason relationships are not working. Thinness DOES NOT equate happiness, success or beauty. Sorry, I'm not falling for this rhetoric, because skinny women, models, beautiful women get cheated on all the time. Being overweight is NOT the problem. Systematic racism is the problem and it's been set up this way for our people to fail, come oooonnn yalllll. Grocery stores in primarily black neighborhood are set up for unhealthy eating, gyms are rarely in black neighborhoods, no trails or bike lanes in black neighborhoods, access to fresh fruits and veggies are not readily available, health care...Imma stop right there cause yall are ignoring the bigger picture. Let a woman say, nahhh I don't cook "those foods" the high fattening, high cholesterol, soaked in Crisco, culturally stemmed black foods that's been making our aunties and mama's fat, since forever. The first thing outta yall mouth with an attitude is " Oh she don't cook the foods my mama cooked", "she a millennial chic" You want it both ways and then bitch out loud and on KZbin, knowing that black men are just as unhealthy and fat. I can't with any of these ratchet ass comments, talking about she's big but want a man in shape. STOP with this foolishness cause you want a thumbs up. Black women (cause that's who were really talking about) being big, is not the problem. Access has always been the problem.
