The new Petzl descenders with the automatic locking make these systems so much easier to operate

Yes indeed. I like teaching with the older ones. They are still more used than the new ones and if people train witho only the new one they never learn to lock their handles.

@@TheRopeAccessChannel Very true. I'm not sure that I'd be proficient with the older model if I had to use one for some reason

Hi Alex just a quick question, when would you need to be secured with a cowstail and when not ? For Example when you pass an edge ( climbing back onto it ) you secure yourself with a cowstail so that you dont fall off of the platform, but you dont seem to be secured to the platform when lifting or lowering a casualty/load . Does the hole not present a danger of falling in ? Thanks again for all then content !!! :)

+Kj Nel thank you for your question. It is a good one👍🏼. And you’re right the hole does present a danger of falling in. If you look closely you’ll see I’m connected to the beam with a Grillon lanyard. If I would misstep I would have a very very small fall. If the floor you are standing on is flat and secure, you just need one backup to prevent or stop a fall. Always keep fall distance in mind as well. That will tell you when to use a fall arrest system with a shock absorber and when not.

@@TheRopeAccessChannel Hi Alex thank you for the reply, you answered/explained a few things in one reply, I did not notice Grillon attachment on the beam as its behind the hauling system ropes and I was focused on it being behind you with a cowstail, but the connection on the beam is much safer in terms of not getting hurt if you do fall in, it also makes far more sense as it is not in the way and does not hinder your movement as well as makes it easy to decide on the type of backup system you need to use as you explained. Thanks again for the reply and content

IS this for irata L1?

Yes, in the IRATA scheme you need to have an awareness of hauling systems.

Do you have a video where you lift and move heavy loads with one rope and pulleys system? So just lifting and dragging a load along the rope line with pulleys and just by man power. I drew a picture so people can understand better what I mean with rope line with pulleys. Even lifting and moving 200 kilos would be great. Its just a proof of concept with distinctly separated pulleys and not considering much about mechanical advantages or lift/height ratios. Replace the punctuations. I have a video about lifting and lowering a casualty. This actually haha. That could be up to 250kg easily with the right equipment. And same principles
