This creatures is actually based on a monster from a book series… but I can’t remember what it was called. It’s about this kingdom with a belt of magic stones that word off the the evil creatures and such from the north. The king and his family are killed, or the bad guy thinks they are. The caption of the royal guard managed to save the infant prince, who is eventually found out around his 18th birthday. And must go on an epic quest to gather all the scattered stones and restore the magic protection barrier thing. This creature is the one guarding the Diamond stone… I think. it’s been years.

So in theory the residents of the town had a natural genetic resistance to the view that was imposed over the town. It makes sense. Generations of continual exposure led to adaptation, with current decendants being able to sense or maybe occasionally see the truth without the need for the pill the Epsilon agents took. You can tell because the agents never felt anything off at first, but the residents were later noted to be dodging the robed figures unconsciously despite the fact they shouldn't have known where they were.
