There's not an easy way to say this but I don't know if this formula works for Jon. He isn't as....dense. He's also way better than them at games. So any helpful advice they give him, is basically him saying "yeah I know" or "I figured it out" This really isn't a complex game that he would need help with. Plus with Emile the difference is "These games are childhood favourites" and "I tried but gave up" Jon just doesn't have time or interest for most games he doesn't play.

Diary of a Pikmin - Esteban: Today we went to a new part of my planet, something the Captain called The Forest of Hope. He called us all out of the Onion, and gladly, we went to his aid. Started by bashing a wall with our heads, and eventually, it crumbled and fell! Yay! We even got to defeat a predator! This guy is such a great Captain, even if he has a very strange, manly voice. The corpse of the creature was used to produce more of our species, so soon enough, we may even overpopulate the planet! I wonder how that would be... Today we found another of the Captain's Ship's important parts, something he called a battery to illuminate the nights, and also a toaster; I don't know what is that, but hey, if it helps, it helps. After that, we fought a big, red predator, and we won! But not without a cost... at least a dozen of us, we lost them to his belly. It was a rough fight, but if it is for the Captain, then we will gladly fight for him! We were rewarded with more of our species thanks to the corpse of the big predator, so we were able to recover. Later on, we found another colored Onion! One that spew another "Pikmin" of a different color, but we had to make sure our new partner, another big predator was nearby, sleeping, and with a new tactic from our Captain, we were able to bring it down without losing our men; what a master tactician! (Even though he started rough, but hey, he will learn... I hope) Our newest partner, a yellow Pikmin, was less strong, but light to throw! Man, what a soarer. They seem to know what to do with some weird rocks- OH HOLY- THEY EXPLODE! And what a close call, we were about to blow up, but no one was hurt (so far). He told us to not look at explosions, because cool guys don't look at explosions~ and that makes us cool ( •_•)>⌐□-□ (⌐□_□) In the end we only found one more part, but that's good enough progress, me thinks. But on the positive side of things, the Captain got to use his toaster! - Esteban, Day 2 of my life.

One of the most obscure diary entries is that there's one for literally just going to the impact site and immediately going to sunset, and by the last few, olimar basically concedes he's gonna die cause he's a lazy idiot and the onion has weird hairs on it (technically it's not dependent on the impact site itself so much as doing nothing, but landing in the forest of hope triggers a specific diary beyond the "nothing new" ones.) I always try to rush finishing the forest of hope because of the snitchbugs spwaning in post day 15. They just creep me out so much I used to obsessively kill the drawf bulborbs and shearbugs with just olimar's punch cause I was paranoid about letting any get hit. I swear even when i rush bulborbs from the back with a large force while sleeping, a good 90 or so pikmin still seem to get stuck at the feet. I knew about the mario/olimar name thing, never made the connection bulborbs are a reference to mushrooms. interesting take. I am so glad pikmin 3 fixed necter, even if i think you can potentially get way more pikmin per nectar bit in older games. I usually like to save getting a new pikmin species in an area until i do everything i can with older types. I find it helps for organization. Yeah, i know the wii version is way better with organizing pikmin groups and it's way harder to mess up bomb rock dropping. All the same, I guess I've adapted over the years. Would love if we are playing gamecube though cause it would be hilarious to see how often Jon messes up (curious if he'll take the time for any optional bomb rock walls just for speed cause I immediatly take those out when i can). Lastly, I didn't know for years that pikmin in the landing site areas are safe. I obsessively figured I needed to either put them in the onion, or have them right following me. Thank god pikmin 3 added that circle.

Since I don't think this would come up in the playthrough and I was curious about it I copied most of the olimar self berating Day 25 "I have been stranded on this planet for some time, and I have grown used to my life here. At times, I even find it quite bearable. I know that as soon as I return, I'll once again be subjected to daily ridicule by my despicable boss... If only I could be a Pikmin... NO!!! I must not think such thoughts! I have a family! I will not give up! Ever!" Day 26 "At this point, I no longer care what happens. Surely, not even a last-minute push can guarantee my success. Now that I think about it, my wife always said that I gave up too easily... What does she know, anyway?!? When did she become a licensed psychiatrist? ...Now I am upset. @@Anafyral666 Interesting thing about Day 26's "not even a last-minute push can guarantee my success": it actually is possible, at that point, to escape the planet. You can't get all 30 parts, but if you play with top-level speed run abilities, you can complete the Forest of Hope, Forest Navel, and Distant Spring in one day each, putting you through to Day 29. On Day 30, you can return to the Impact Site for the Positron Generator and just *barely* make it home.

When Jon was giving those Bulborbs to the reds after just finding the yellows I was like "No! Give them to the yellows to boost their numbers faster!". Too bad he couldn't get that other rock wall done, I think I usually get two or all three down. I don't think Jon has gotten use to multitasking just yet. Funny story, around the time of Emile's LP of Pikmin 1 someone wrote a fanfic about Steven the Pikmin. I think it was titled "Steve the Trooper" and had Steve trying to pick up the pellet to prove himself and being rewarded by Olimar with a drop of nectar to become a flower Pikmin.

To be fair, you never need a large number of yellows in this game. Their only real purpose is bombs (which you won't need to carry to many of at a time) and reaching high (I'm not sure how many things require this or if any of them require large numbers of yellows). Reds on the other hand deal the most damage (good for all combat) and are immune to fire (good for navigating specific areas and fighting certain enemies).

I truly believe Jon would prefer the GameCube version. the camera controls make more sense when your movement and reticle are synced, and the mechanic of pointing and throwing pikmin was not correctly implemented until pikmin 3. In Pikmin 1 & 2, the reticle denotes where pikmin will land. That is all it ever does. It doesn't lock on to enemies or flowers or parts, so aiming below those things/ the ground they're standing on is how you're supposed to do it, but that's not intuitive and takes players a while to figure out, or just get the hang of. Often this fact isn't even noticed; leaving players thinking they have to compensate. (I'm sure Emile would've commented on it at some point in this LP or his own if he knew it tbh, but he never has.)

The Bonus Pikmin thing is a bit of misnomer. Cause while this is the case with 1 pellets which give 2 when matching the same color, but for other pellets, it is more of a negative pikmin modifier, cause a 5 pellet will give 3 pikmin to the wrong color, and 5 to the right color. This is more being Pedantic, but i do feel calling them "Bonus" pikmin would make people you always get 5 pikmin from a 5 pellet, but if you match the color it gives like 7 or something.

A slightly better strategy against the Spotty Bulborb is to start by swarming, and once the bulborb begins shaking Pikmin off, switch to throwing. That way, if the Pikmin can't finish off the Bulborb before it finishes shaking them off, it will try to shake them off again instead of biting the Pikmin. I know this isn't particularly helpful advice for Jon, since this series was recorded months ago, but I'll still leave it here for other people reading the comments

Sweet! A daily series, like if it were Jon in the position of Olimar (or not. Apparently today’s an exception based on Twitter). Also can’t wait for Colosseum 2 now that it’s been officially confirmed by both Tim and Jon. 0:12 I think some speedrunners will actually go back to the Impact Site on Day 2 to bolster their numbers and get more stuff done on Day 3. 1:58 Incorrect, Emile. 1 pellets give a bonus Pikmin for color matching, but all other pellets actually penalize you for getting the wrong color by halving the amount of seeds you would get if you brought it to the same-colored Onion. For instance, having Reds bring a Yellow 5 Pellet will produce 3 seeds (2.5 rounded up). 4:05 They’re more lucrative in that you get the same number of Pikmin seeds regardless of which Onion your Pikmin bring the corpse to. Also, I kinda wish Emile would’ve told Jon that Dwarf Bulborbs can be Goomba stomped. 4:30 Ultimately, losing Pikmin is detrimental in the following scenarios: not having enough of a color Pikmin to complete a task and Pikmin extinction. The former can be worked around sometimes, but the latter is a scenario that looms overhead during early game when you don’t have a whole lot of Pikmin. Thankfully the enemy types are a lot more forgiving in the Forest of Hope, though there are some nasty contenders that are currently inaccessible. 5:42 You’re not even notified of their death. Crushing in this game is a nightmare, especially when it comes to the Distant Spring. Friggin’ Yellow Wollywogs...(Captain Roahlimar could tell you horror stories about those awful things) 7:00 Which is why Jon still has two Pikmin following him, right? 10:07 Find it kinda funny that Jon used the opposite approaches than what’s considered ideal against the Bulborbs (toss Pikmin at the Dwarfs, swarm the regular ones before they can get up). 12:18 In fairness, isn’t Pikmin a result of that Super Mario 128 demo? It would make sense to pay tribute to the red plumber if that’s the case. 13:16 I’d say it balances out with how vaulable Flower Pikmin are. Same with leaving a Pikmin in the ground for a while rather than immediately plucking one. Contrary to popular belief, they’re no more durable than Leaf or Bud Pikmin and they can very easily lose that Flower status if they’re shaken off of an enemy, but the rate at which they move and do tasks is key to clearing the game in record time. Also, if a Flower Pikmin does die, there’s a chance that a Pikmin sprout of the same color will be left behind at the spot where said Pikmin died the next day. 15:10 Emile, that’s the GCN controls you’re thinking of. 16:10 That is a rather handy feature in Pikmin 2 rather than having to dismiss and then whistle over the Pikmin you wanted, so I can see why Emile wanted Jon to play the Wii version. Also having that additional throwing range helps. 17:10 On the flipside though, those are also Pikmin who are to remain as leaves. Not too bad a setback though. 20:31 See, that would work, if said cab wasn’t in the middle of a mech death battle. Already having to temper my own inner backseat gamer over some efficiency issues thus far (not saving some of those corpses for the Yellows for instance), but it’s enjoyable seeing Jon just kinda goofing off. I wonder when he’s going to begin to get frustrated though, because some of the late-game stuff is not kind.

Matteo James I can tell you that they wouldn’t make or force him to fight the actual optional bosses for 100% (Smoky Progg, the Mamuta, and the Goolix, though he’d have to deal with one of the last two for 100%); that kind of defeats the purpose of a blind LP. I’ve been told though that in the Wii version you can retry the previous day if you don’t like how it turned out, so perhaps they might have encouraged him to do that for the Day specific enemies. Again though, I don’t really find the Progg that hard a boss, at least not after seeing this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r16lfXSjaN-pnas (skip to 3:30 for the start up the kill setup, 14:00 for the kill). Bosses in the other two Pikmin games (namely 2) were more difficult I felt, and pretty much all of them are required for 100%.

These Carrots are absolute idiots, they can't even take care of themselves, though, I'm not surprised, who wouldn't want me taking care of them, speaking of Carrots, i found a new breed, these ones are Yellow, and they have ears, and appear to be lighter, they also seem to be able to handle B O M B R O C K S, i must K E E P M Y D I S T A N C E, though there may be a lack of protein in the new Yellow Carrot, i'm sure they are quite D e l i c i o u s. . .
