I thought that saw was a fish scaler. Thought it was supposed to be dull/blunt like that, and the notch at the end was to help remove hooks.

Thanks for watching. I think you are correct

It is a scaler there still on knives and multi tools they make today

Nice result. But there is no saw but a fishing toole that is used to pick out hooks and remove the scales on the f.ishe

Thanks for watching! Yes I realize now that it is a fish descaler.

I wouldn’t say it’s the worst multi tool ever…. I remember engraving tool sets like that for TRW in El Segundo California in the 1970’s. The customer said that the tools were retirement gifts for engineers. I remarked that they were pretty interesting and whoever designed it had a great idea. This was before multi tools were popular. Three days later I received a package at work from the TRW customer. There was a message saying thanks for the service and thanks for liking my design. It turns out that customer designed the tool set and decided to give me one which I still have. Mine operates somewhat differently being that there is an arm on the side of the tool holder that allows the tools to be changed quickly and positively. Nice work on the restoration!! Thanks for sharing your story.

I had this same type of set, from Utica Cutlery. It was part of my hunting kit. The hammer was very useful for iron sights. It was unique, and it got used every year.

It’s definitely a unique tool with its own uses, it just has a finite amount of them

Great stuff! I somehow came to have this exact same knife as a kid in the 90s, it didn't have any attachments and I didn't know it had any, I just had the knife bit, no pouch etc. Neat to see one whole.

It was a unique piece to find, I just wish that it was more useful.

I don't think that was meant to be a saw blade, I think it was a fish descaler.

I think you are right. I didn’t even consider this!

They really are, it's a shame that they aren't very useful.

Interesting. I thought I had the same set, but mine is made by Imperial, doesn't have the saw blade, or hammer, and is in a vinyl fold over pouch. Everything else looks identical down to the strange shape of the smaller flat screwdriver blade, and the dual purpose bottle opener, can opener blade

Might have been made by the same company for another maker. Have a good day!

Nice job on the restoration. Why is it the worst multi-tool though? I kind of like the idea of having all the options without the giant bulky handle and you could easily fabricate new tools to add to the kit! 😃👍🏼 Edit: I just read the description. That may be true but I think you could make new attachments that are more suited to your needs. I still thinks it’s a good design. Take care.

I have the one made by Barlow that came in a black vinyl case. Luckily, mine was found in pristine shape 😀 well done, and while they are indeed pretty crappy as their individual tools, as a whole, you don't see too many knives that can do all this can "kind of" do lol

Yeah it’s definitely unique!

There were several generations of of these sets and none were especially effective. I’m somewhat interested in them because they had an ancestor that was somewhat effective. The creator tried unsuccessfully to market the tool set to the tucker car company.
