I'd love some ideas on how to grow out peeling since I can't find anyone with an answer :(. If I keep my nails bare, the peeling catches on things and gets pulled up further up the nail plate. If I keep them polished, the polish pulls it up higher of course. Cutting the separated layer off helps a bit until it gets close to the free edge then it starts spreading again :( of course I'm doing the oiling, OPI repair mode and all the good stuff too. On some nails I've managed to grow out the peeling and they're nice and healthy and don't peel anymore, but on a few nails it keeps spreading before I manage to grow it out. Do you have any tips for me and those struggling with the same thing? Thanks for reading 💕

I no longer use cuticle remover because it can damage my nail plates and skin, especially when using it with a metal pushy tool (which can scrape the nail plates). Now I just gently nudge back the PNF regularly. I find that normal routine bathing, showering and handwashing and using the towel to wipe and dry the cuticle area afterwards removes any remaining cuticle. Then using a drop or two of jojoba oil on my hands and nails after every hand washing or showering keeps my nails feeling smooth and with a healthy glow. Jojoba oil is also good for my 64 year old hands, keeping them soft and supple.

I agree. Think I have been inadvertently damaging my nails with the metal thing and cuticle remover. Oil regularly and only one coat of a sheer nail polish. I want to see what’s going on with my nails! 😊 So glad I found Anna’s channel. Her videos have helped so much!❤

I absolutely and totally agree with you that anything that adhere’s to the nails, including polish, can damage the surface of the nails. It definitely gives me surface damage and always has. I actually found you in my search for answers about the surface damage. I knew it was from polish because in addition to my fingernails, I get surface damage on my toes nails and only wear polish in my toe nails in the summer. I also appreciate your distinction of what is meant by protect the nails. Polish does add layers to your nails and these layers act as a splint and do give temporary (meaning only when it’s on the nails) strength, which helps the nails break less easily. I would rather have naked nails, as I love the look of a natural nail. However, no matter how healthy my nails are, they are genetically thin and pathetically weak. So without the polish to protect my nails from breaking, I would not have any kind of free edge at all. My nails would’ve so short that they would not be able to break. So while polish does damage my nails, it also protects them, and I would rather have damaged nails with a little bit of a free edge, then healthy nails with no free edge whatsoever.

Very interesting! I have terrible onycholosis and ridges for more than 10 years. I was an esthetician where my hands were in water constantly during facials. After years of that the nail lifting began. It’s basically chronic for me unfortunately. I’ve followed your advice and others trying everything over the years. I have been using the illuminating concealer because I’m embarrassed of my nails. I keep them very short, do the self manicures, but always kept something on them because the nail lifting is very unsightly. So, now I’m back to the drawing board!

Thank you very much for sharing this informative video, Anna. My nails are in the same state after regularly wearing nail polish. I was in Toronto for 2 months as my mom had a stroke and I thought it would be better for my nails if I wore polish. I took the polish off every week and used oil, Kerasal, base coat, 2 layers of nail polish, wore plastic gloves and hand cream. I am going to follow your suggestions for the foreseeable future and until my nails are in better condition.

I love love love(d) the LondonTown illuminating nail concealer. Once I discovered it, I figured - look no more! It would become my holy grail. However, I'm having the same dry nails and little cracks and splits at the tips like the lady in your video. My ridges look more pronounced too. I don't ever remember my nails looking like this when I was younger and polishing my nails ALL THE TIME - Revlon and Sally Hansen brands were my go-to's. ln my early 20's, I developed an allergic reaction around my eyes and for years had to stop wearing polish. I have no allergic reaction to the LondonTown nail concealers but my nails look bad now - soooo dry. I recommended the nail concealer to my friend and she sent me a photo of her gorgeous nails a few weeks ago. I messaged her just the other day to see if she was experiencing any issues. She said her nails looked great - for the two manicures she did with the LondonTown nail concealer - but now every single nail has cracked and is in bad shape. I will be sharing this video with her for sure. I'm pretty disappointed - feels like once again, if it seems too good to be true - it probably is. There was just no way for me to do enough jojoba oil soaks to combat the problem. Thanks for this video!

Last time I used cuticle remover I applied under the free edge as well, just wanted to clean up the dead skin that built up due to having my nails long... It was only on my nails for seconds, then I brushed it thoroughly with a nail brush and soapy water... but still caused the free edge to break off into layers, like croissant layers in the following weeks. It's not supposed to be applied under the free edge, I know, but my point is it made me hesitant to use it on my cuticles, it impacts the nails way more than I imagined. I can still use it on my toenails. I also am curious if the cuticle remover gets more concentrated with time(?), if it becomes more damaging to the nails(?) The rough "torn" surface on the nails I experienced when I would peel off the nail polish instead of removing it with acetone.

Can you do a video about polyvinyl butyral in base coats? Some of the nail communities I'm in blame the PVB for a lot of nail damage. I've just tried switching to a base coat without PVB, but it's too early for me to know if there's any improvement to my nails yet.
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 25 күн бұрын
So they link the PVB to the damage but not the nitrocellulose? I'm honestly curious
@kateiline
@kateiline 25 күн бұрын
@@TheSalonLife Yes, when people ask for advice to prevent damage to their nails, I rarely see nitrocellulose mentioned. Most of the blame goes to PVB (mostly from nail polish users on Facebook and reddit, I don't think any of them are chemists or technicians). I'm just curious if there is any validity to these claims.

I have had gels on my nails for around two years and they looked a bit flaky when I removed the gel so I bought some OPI Repair Mode, not cheap in the UK. I can honestly say after using it for two weeks as per instructions my nails are really bad, very dry and flaking and I have to cut them shorter and shorter. Given up with it now and back to oiling twice a day which is helping. Pauline UK.

2 weeks is not gonna fix much. The nail has only grown 2 mm. Very often the nails look at first worse than before. But if the damage is deep meaning the nails are very thinned out I don’t recommend OPI Repair Mode. I would recommend something that is safe for skin contact like ISDIN pen and yes. Oil soaks and time. More here: thesalonlifeshop.com/products/how-to-have-beautiful-nails-digital-download

Always interesting to hear what is causing the problems. What was the brand of similar to nail glow called? I have Londontown white concealer/polish and I have to say I love it, it goes on smooth for a white polish doesn’t seem to stain my nails in fact when I remove it I always feel they look brighter, but I never where the same polish in succession and try to have a day without each week if possible where I apply the Opi repair. Although I like Essie colour range it is a polish that seems to damage mine more.

In one of your videos, several months back, you mentioned CND Rescue Rxx for vertical splits. I have been using the product since then I am on my third purchase of the product and use it every day twice a day on my bare nails. It has mended both nails almost to 100% . As the nail grows out, I clip a little bit more growth back to where I can see the split begins. My nails are no longer catching on fabric or in my hair. I also took your advice, not to use nail polish while I wad using CND and moisturize my nails twice a day with jojoba oil. Thank you for this recommendation and for cautioning to have patience for the process to work. You did advise that it would take several months and to exercise patience and consistency of application. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the video! Is there any good way to learn about ingredients used in nail polish and other nail goods? One of the issues I have is that most of the products that are often recommended are not available in Japan. As a result, I often have to look for domestically available stuff (like for the jojoba oil and what I mix with it), or spend money to get stuff imported (kerasal). Other things like OPI Repair Mode and Dazzle Dry are simply not possible to get. Most things are fine, but I still want to be able to make good decisions when buying and using stuff. (For the record, I have bendy nails, but the only product shown on your channel that I can get is the CND Rescue Rxx. There is domestic stuff, but most are just hardener polishes.)

Kerasal (Amazon) amzn.to/3dy31F7 It's for the skin around the nails but also benefits the nail plate (the nail bed is the skin under the nail plate and Kerasal does not help the nail bed)

Anna l have been using only dazzle dry as many years as you and l can promise that the nail prep can be very damaging to some nails. Maybe not all but l grew out the damage and started fresh using nail prep only on one hand and the condition was night and day on the two hands. Otherwise love DD and have only used that brand for years.
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 24 күн бұрын
No, it’s not the Prep. It’s the stronger adhesion (that everyone wants) causes that. Prep increases the adhesion. Wipe your nails with Prep once a week (without applying polish) and you will NOT see this damage. I can guarantee you.

I don't have problems with Dazzle Dry and my clients do better with it than with other brands (and I'm basing this on using it on hundreds of clients over few years) but I also mention that many viewers report otherwise especially wearing DD Transform.

Cornucrescine hoof ointment made my ridges disappear. If you are concerned about sassafras oil being carcinogenic, use the brand Carr&Day&Martin because it has sassafras oil substitute. It’s been in use since 1898 and it’s perfectly safe for human use. They have had zero reports of ill-effects from human or horse use in over a hundred years…and the can itself even says to apply it to horse hoofs by hand. Many horse owners discovered how great it was for nails, accidentally, from applying it to their horse’s hooves consistently. Their nails grew like mad. My grandmother used this stuff on her nails for 60 years and she had unbelievable nails. It actually restructures the nail, accelerates growth, promotes keratin cell growth and puts a complete stop to peeling, cracking, fraying and splitting. But if you have super damaged nails, this stuff will help tremendously, but you will still need to grow out your damage, to see the 100% potential of this magical ointment. It has also made my cuticles stop forming and sticking to my nails…it all just went away since I started using this stuff. My nails are so long and strong now with no brittleness anymore. I am not exaggerating even remotely about this stuff. It also keeps my PNF looking amazing, with no more need to nudge back anymore and hangnails are a thing of the past. I don’t even paint my nails anymore because people think they are fake, when I do. I’ve been called a “liar” when I tell them they’re my natural nails. Lol. i apply it every single night (religiously) and I rub it into my nails in a circular motion and a little bit onto the skin around my nails… and then I sleep with it on. Every night. I never skip a single night. I put it under my nails as well. Absolutely NOTHING compares to this stuff. Seriously. I will never be without it. Thank you to my late Grandmother! ❤

So I looked at the ingredients and here is what is says: PETROLATUM, Lanolin, ALOE FEROX LEAF , Paraffin, MINERAL OIL, Sassafras Oil, Water. So if you remove the Sassafras then it's a pretty common formulation of ingredients I recommend all the time :) I looked if Sassafras is beneficial for nails/keratin but I could not find anything.
