Friend of mine built one of these in the 70's. The straps got stretched out when the wood expanded. The fix was to use longer bolts and put heavy duty valve springs on both ends.

As I said earlier I worked designing redwood hot tubs in in the 1970's we did use redwood and to a lesser extent "red tide water Cypress". One out of 100 tubs was Cypress this was remilled used wood, we also used redwood wine tanks some we had built in the 1930-40's and removed in the 1960's resold and removed again. Then remilled in to hot tubs. This tub looks great sure to an old school round hoop guy flat hoops look off plus we tighten hoops from the chime up

Not sure where you are but that electrical disconnect box I believe is to close to hot tub it's self. Just thought I would chime in, if it's nothing, it's nothing, safety first right, seen you boy there with you, great job. 5 ft min distance unless barrier between tub and electrical, be safe, have fun.

We also have one of our own. In our setup we use a wood oven with steel sides as a heater, and a water pump taking cold water from the botton, to the top spewing it out on top of the oven. Also we have a fence going around the steel oven, to make sure its not toutched by actident.

You could try to do a coating on the interior to make it last and use salt water filter instead of chlorine which should decrease how fast it starts to deteriorate. Powder coating requires enough heat, but would be ideal, same with porcelain coating....Good luck! Sounds relaxing.

DANGER DANGER DANGER - you seem to have only put one suction fitting through to the pump inlet (the suction side). A person can easily get stuck on that - please please please - add a T fitting and a second suction fitting. If somebody or something gets trapped on one suction, they can pull off as the system simply draws from the other suction fitting. I put one on the wall and one on the floor if I can to keep even safer. If not, simply go a bit farther around the tub - three feet is a minimum. I'll send you the parts if you need - free - just to be sure you stay safe.
