Great video as ever, James! My suggestions on things to do- first of all, glad you're painting the wheels silver! they will look so much better. As for calipers, i'd go silver. But if you're chasing a bit more power at some stage, Focus ST brakes are a great upgrade. As for suspension, Eibach lowering springs are widely considered the best upgrade for the ST. Definitely get a decent air filter too, and intercooler wise maybe look at an Airtec one. One thing I would say is consider testing your injectors, they are a known failure on those engines. As is the EGR. maybe check that too, or even consider doing a delete on it. Interior wise, definitely change the bulbs for led's, but maybe keep the centre one at the front standard. Only reason I say that is the led's are so bright, one night when it's pitch black and you turn it on, it'll blind you! Sometimes you only need a gentle light. Lol.
@cjmillsnun6 жыл бұрын
He doesn't have to worry about the EGR. It's already been blanked.

I'm sure in a previous video, he said the brakes were off an ST
@chrisswann28686 жыл бұрын
James I,d recommend, especially if you're in this car for the long term, to get the windscreen removed. This is because sometimes when a car has had one fitted in the past, the paintwork can get damaged when removing the old sealer. And if you do have the B.H.P checked, do change the oil and filter first, and check the gearbox oil level.
@nellysummer496 жыл бұрын
James, make sure you get recaros from same year or newer than yours, if you get early ones the wiring is different and can cause issues. As for Mods, polybushing the wishbones, arbs and subframes works wonders. Springs, go for eibach or coilovers if you can stretch to it. K&n panel air filter, Airtec intercooler & hybrid will see you around 200bhp with a decent map. Hard to get much more with the old transit engine and ancient ecu Keep up the great work 👍

@Kris Nicholson I wouldnt trust Ford as far as I could throw them especially Derby branch. I've recently repaired a fiesta from Ford, they had said immobiliser fault and pcm had internal failure, they had "checked" the wiring to the pcm and was okay so they quoted a minimum of £1800 to repair. Took me an hour to find 1 single broken wire in the main plug to the pcm and all was fixed.

A mod thats not a mod but is a mod. Sound deaden some panels. Doesn’t need to be expensive. I could hear a few rattles in that old thing. I add sound deadening to the cars I’ve owned it just makes a huge difference in my opinion. Quieter interior. Better for hearing the exhaust.

Would be very interested in a video to fix the steering issue as I have the same problem on my car. After some research I am pretty confident it’s a faulty steering rack, I believe the seals go. This is confirmed by the colour of the PAS fluid turning into a dark grey colour. I haven’t tried flushing the system but could be a possible first step that could help for now. Have you looked anymore into the problem?

A video on rear bumper removal ( to tackle the rust problem )will make interesting viewing. Mine suffers from the saggy corner syndrome so any pointers on how to solve this issue would help.Great video as always, can`t wait for the next installment.

Sway bars droplinks best bang for buck upgrade. Did my rears and front drop links on my scooby best 320 i spent. Reduces body roll when cornering is ten times better but trade off for pooly set up for all 3 types is it could make you slide so would suggest doing it with the coil overs. Sports cat for the car so better air flow but not rolling coal. Caliper rebuild or a brembo varity off a focus rs if your going added power or at least gripper pads and rotas. That all i can think off to make the car support your engine mods to get the added power down for the sleeper mondeo. Oh tyres deffo best bang for buck upgrade.
@Flexaret6 жыл бұрын
I'm liking your ideas, you asked about colours for the calipers, personally I wouldn't go for Red, Gold makes it look like pretend Brembo's, Silver sounds better but might be too much like the wheels, Black is too stock/plain. What about maybe a Titanium Grey? contrast with the wheels, works with the Blue body colour, just a thought. :-)

For some reason i always install coilovers on my cars. Had an 6k1 seat ibiza did coilovers in it (TA technik) it was horrible because they where cheap. Now i have a 6L ibiza and installed bc racing coilovers, couldnt be more satsified the ride is great without sacrificing comfort and it grips like hell, even did on my dads focus mk1 coilovers (yellowspeed) also supersatfied. So yeah i would suggest coilovers

Calipers black gloss and wheels sporty silver or storm grey. I got this combination on mine and it looks well. Regardless of what you do, I'll still watch it and thumbs up it 😜. And for the viewer's.... Its not a turbo blow of sound. On a diesel? Nope, they don't have a throttle flap like a petrol turbo. Its coming from exhaust side hence the 'Choo' sound. 'Blow off' sounds are a compressed air release or high pitched whistle sound. Look up bov' sounds on yt.

Hi, If your going for a bigger intercooler go for an airtec one there around £280 ish have got one for one of my 2.0 tdci's and there literally 3 times bigger than standard so make a big difference, have also put recaro's in mine and they are very comfy and supportive would defiantly recommend if you can get a hold of some, also as far as lowering springs go maybe look at a set of eibach as they used to be a optional extra when the st came out might prove to be more of a comfy ride although not sure on that keep up with the great videos :)

It is never going to be nippy, diesels "do" grunty, but with a heavy engine and lazy revving flywheel, it is the nature of the diesel beast. Not keen on the overrun whistle, but its your car so your choice! I'll stick to the sound of my V6. You really wouldn't want my fuel bill though! Lowering it 40mm is what killed the ride, especially on low profile tyres and a heavy diesel engine. 25mm is about the max for that car, and even then I'd think twice. Ford's chassis engineers really knew what they were doing with the suspension set-up. Take it back up 20mm or so and maybe fit a thicker anti-roll bar. Which brings me to the splitter. I've lost count of the the number of trashed splitters I have seen. Lowered suspension, pot-holes in the road, plus traffic calming pillows and tables equals lots of glass fibre all over the road. The front of this Mondy is looking good now, positively classy, don't spoil it with 1990s Halfords stuff! Brake calipers - I can't see there being ink blue heatproof paint (but great if there is) so go for silver, to match the wheels.
@louisjames10624 жыл бұрын
Zadster what a load of bs... One of my cars is a mapped 240bhp 2.0tdi golf. It’s nippy, infact very nippy. There’s diesel cars tuned up to a thousand bhp all over KZbin. The whistle as you call it is due to a quality strait through exhaust, and mildly tired seals on the turbo. I’m running coilovers on most of my cars some past 40 and the rides are perfect. Suspension is all about the money, if you buy cheap dog sht springs on factory shocks-expect a poor ride. Loosing Splitters again is in part down to crap soggy worn suspension and poor judgement. I’ve cars with splitters an inch of the floor. Never hit one yet. Most tuned desirable cars run splitters, even from factory. Not 1990s Halfords stock And painting calipers you can use a heat build primmer and then go any colour you like. Done it many times, again with no problems

You're driving that like a petrol. Wej I first went to diesel (a 2004 laguna) for a higher powered petrol. I found you always needed to be in a lower get than I was use to, if you wanted to get going. Got to ring that torque out. How very the joy of a 2l diesel is if you want you can pull away in 4th and never change gear if your feeling lazy. Hit if you want to get a move in, you always have to think a gear lower than you're you too. Pack on the petrol again, first in in 14 years. Oh it is a wee bit more restive, but miss the torque. Even though the 190 2ltsi is hardly underpowered. Can't compete with a 2l d for motorway cruising. 20mpg difference in a long run. But intl about 6mpg around town and a and b roads. Getting 27 mpg atm on average. Up form 32mog in the gtc 55mpg in my 110bhp 1.9d laguna miss them days, and a hug le 75litre tank. Only down side was in about 09 fuel was nudging £1.50l, so filling it wasn't cheap. But a tank lasted a month. Now I'm putting 60quid a week in the Leon ST FR. And going about 360/80 miles on a tank. (45litre). I don't to 20 quid fills and I hate going the garage.

Kris Nicholson wrong...
@samconnor99906 жыл бұрын
@Kris Nicholson it's absolutely not compressor surge. It's compressor stall. Surge is hearing the chatter/flutter under acceleration/load/boost. The noise you're hearing is air unable to be vented atmospherically through a bov or recirc valve going back through the blades causing the compressor wheel to stall.
@samconnor99906 жыл бұрын
@Kris Nicholson how are they the same ? Surge is when the air is going inwards while on the throttle (butterfly open) and shouldn't happen. Stall is when you let off the throttle, flowing air hits the throttle butterfly (when it shuts )and it has nowhere to go but backwards and through the turbo again. All turbo cars will chatter/flutter when you let off the throttle if there is no RV, BOV or DV. No turbo vehicle should surge at all unless there is an issue with it.
