You probably don’t realise how much your videos are missed. Hope you are okay and well. Your content gave me the confidence to attempt brake disc and pads replacement on a fiesta and even replacement of air suspension struts on my Mercedes. Yes on the driveway. Whatever is going on in your life , you are missed, and I hope you will return one day. All the best.

Hey man. I have a 2010 mondeo Titanium X and I had a small pond in my spare wheel well which resulted in lots of mould etc. The leak for me was coming through the wiring grommets that come from the boot lid in to the car body. I put some black silicone round each one on either side and it cured it.

Really enjoyed this video, thought the solder connectors were a good idea. Regarding the boot leak, another common source of water getting into the boot, is in heavy rain, the water runs part way down the side channels and then drips into the boot. To avoid this part open the hatch, let the water drain and then fully open it.

I had one of these, exact same model, did me proud for years, I did several jobs along the way, rear suspension replace, wheel bearings , brakes, usual serviceable stuff, also changed oil and filters every 6k , never missed a beat, getting close to 200k miles then one day the push start failed leaving it totally dead and after ages in garage and constant consultation with Ford technical the problem seemed unsolvable and I regrettably scrapped it...big mistake...should have put it on my drive and methodically go through it myself... these are top motors... keep,it up👍

Good stuff and so much progress, looking forward to when you drive it! 1. Yes that boot trim is a pig to remove and my boot mounted brake light also had the water marks but I think there are drain holes for that. Bulbs were always going in that boot mounted brake light so it might be wise to replace with canbus leds if you still have the trim off (bet you've put it back on). 2. My leak was from the washer jet on the tailgate which is also quite a common fault. Washer jet was crap as well 3. Never remove the other end of those cable boots on the tailgate. The side that's on the tailgate itself has a very difficult to remove retaining clip which the boots sits around. I found this when fitting a reversing camera. 4. When replacing my bonnet release cable I removed the passenger side headlight but couldn't get the connector to release as it seemed 100% stuck. Also bonnet release cables snapping/sticking was common as they would rust around the latch side. You can get the complete kit to replace it but its a fiddle job under the carpet, through the bulkhead, battery out, airbox out, headlight out etc. However they did sell cable only kits where you'd thread a new cable through the old sleeve which could save a lot of time.
@stanelder9995
@stanelder9995 3 жыл бұрын
Ford does offer (at least in the US) connector pigtail kits to allow you to replace a bad connector by cutting the wires and soldering to the new pigtail ends. That connector is the same one that my 2013 Focus ST uses, and probably many other Fords too. As far as the clip goes, they are very easily broken (I broke both of mine!) but fortunately my connectors do stay put with friction alone...:) But you CAN purchase that plug separately, as well as a special tool to de pin-it - let me know if you want the part numbers! Update - obviously I should have watched to the end before commenting! Lol. You did exactly what I would have done to fix the headlight connector. In fact I will be doing that to my own eventually!

Theres something about keeping an older car on the road. I bought a 2004 Subaru legacy nearly 4 years ago for 1k. I've put 100k on it in that time as I drive all over the country and aside from regular maintenance and a timing belt it's been bulletproof. 280k now and still strong!! 👍👍

As for the water in the boot, it might be worth checking under the rear bumper. There are two vents either side that are designed to let the air out of the car when you've got the blowers on etc, but nothing in. But they get clogged and perish and so let water in. I had a 2013 focus with the same issue and that was the problem. Hope this helps!

I recently went to an auction that sells off cars used in the funeral business. I just missed out on a 2011 MK4 mondeo estate 2.2 titanium X sport in panther black. The car was stunning but the bids went just above my set limit. I ended up with a pretty basic MK4 mondeo estate that I'm going to use for my dog walking business. Now I'm obsessed with the idea of tarting it up to look a bit like the titanium X sport I missed out on. I always like to put my own stamp on my cars anyway and did so with my Mk2 focus which I fit the genuine ST sideskirts and ST spoiler (waited until some popped up on ebay the same colour as my car) with some decent ford 17" wheels. Only subtle changes but looks much nicer than the other basic climate models. Good luck with your project! I'll be following along for ideas.

Very informative video. Having purchased a mk4 mondeo myself. I have noticed a slight rattle coming from either drivers side b pillar or rear drivers door. It's slight but annoying. I've stripped the b pillar and stuck double sided foam 3m tape anywhere I was suspicious could be the source. It's still there. Next job remove rear drivers side door card see what I can see! Hi mate I also had the soaking wet headlight problem. Sealing it up didn't work, so had to get a replacement used part. My connector plug was also broken at the clip (they are horrible to get off and end up breaking I think), but it still fitted on ok and seems to be staying on by itself so thankfully I didn't yet need to splice in a new connector - but its good to see how you did it in case I need to in the future. One thing I did need to do after fitting the new headlight is get into the car config using Forscan and run a headlight calibration service procedure in order to clear the dashboard warning. Also hoping to fit some new numberplates, the bonnet gas struts and replace all the interior lights with LEDs. Hope to see more of your videos in future!

Great video! The reason of the water ingress on the headlight is the missing round shaped rubber cover (cornering light cover). It is visible when you removed the headlight. Another possible cause might be missing/broken plastic back cover or it’s tabs. The rust is coming from the afs actuator motor which is situated near to the bottom of the headlight. When that much water gets in the motor is literally under water which makes it corrode and malfunction. Actually you can disassemble the headlight connector and replace the housing, but it will not worth doing. The connector will stay firmly connected without the plastic locking tab. This locking tab thingy is the first thing to break off if you not familiar with how to undo the connector. :)

Not an issue for this job but one tip if you need to splice lots of wires like that - if you stagger the joins a little up and down the wire you can avoid a big bulge where the connection is made - useful if you have space constraints or have to pull the wires back through a tight opening. Keep up the good work 👍

My MK4 2.0 TDCI ran and ran, refused to break down, I traded it in with 380k km and NEVER had any unplanned repairs. The most expensive investment was a new timing belt at 200k. I loved that car.

Such a decent job on the headlight connector 👍 ....another cause of water in the boot can be when people try to use the spray during the winter. If it's frozen the pressure can pop apart the water line in the roof/boot on some cars.

Hi mate, just a suggestion for that plug, it’s possible you could replace the plug housing. See if there’s a part number on the plug, if there is go to local Ford dealer and see if they can get said plug separate from the loom. If they can, buy a de-pinning set and de-pin the connector and re-pin to the new connector :)

One overlooked source of mystery load area leaks is the rear screen washer jet. Rubber and plastic pioes split or go hard, then don't seal tight on the ribbed jet connector, leaking when it's used. Older pipes can also go brittle and split or crack where they flex as the load door opens.

Help! I am attempting to replace my corroded brake pipes for the first time on my 03 registration Vauxhall Astra g 1.8 ! How do I remove the brackets that fix the brake pipes to the underside of the car? I have some photos of the pipe brackets and it looks like some 6mm nuts that are very small and need a deep socket drive to undo but I am not having much success just this far! Perhaps I should just try and hack saw them off and replace them with new ones? How should I tackle this problem? I would be grateful if you can help!

Nice work. Hope the service oil is simply that... I’ve had nothing but issue with that bloody light lol. This model was notorious for failed DPF Regens and each time it fails it forces a bit of diesel into the oil sump, which degrades the oil obvs. Basically, I’m forever having to replace the oil every 10mths or so and the DPF is no doubt clogging up & contemplating having it removed & remapped 👍
