Sadly the culture war is real and it goes beyond gaming. Cinema and television are also battlegrounds, take for example what has happened to Star Wars under Disney, or Amazon spending a billion dollars plus on Rings of Power which is an insult to the legacy of Tolkien. I'm not actually against more diversity, representation and all that jazz providing it's done in a way that doesn't harm or break pre existing lore, and if it's done in a way that doesn't go against the spirit of meritocracy when it comes to hiring practices. So in my books it's right to call it out, challenge it and vote with your wallets. We should also take into account that all this progressive message pushing comes from a very insincere place. Yes the activists and some of the developers that make games like Veilguard do genuinely believe in their cause and i'd even go so far as to say they are well intentioned people. In their mindset they are trying to make a better kinder world. But when you look at the money behind this whole agenda pushing project, it takes a darker turn. Most of us have now heard of mega conglomerates like Blackrock and Vanguard and they do not have the best intentions of common people at heart. Their modus operandi is to promote certain progressive causes and virtue signal about it while at the same time treat ordinary working class people worse and worse, increase the gap between rich and poor and move us into a future that will resemble a cyberpunk dystopia.

You just got another sub my dude. You're speaking facts, and in a way that is not pugnacious or "bigoted". It's not the topic of LGBTQ that is the problem, it's how they portray it. Dorian from Inquisition is a fantastic character that addresses genuine irl struggles people from that community have. The fact that his own father tried to "fix" him with magic for being gay is horrific and cruel and hauntingly have real world connotations. And the way you address that issue in-game even if you're not romancing him can be that of a very supportive and caring friend who simply wants him to be happy. The writing for those scenes is heartbreaking and even as a irl Christian raised on conservative beliefs I was willing to fight his dad when the party meets him to defend my companion. THAT is how you write good LGBTQ characters. You see the man is unashamedly gay but he doesn't bash your head over with his orientation. He doesn't constantly mention his gayness in normal conversations. He only speaks about his orientation when YOU ask, and even then only reveals more when your friendship with him grows, you know like real life relationships. But it seems in Veilguard you have to enter Thedas only after reading the flash cards that says you have to walk on eggshells around LGBTQ otherwise you will be SHAMED.

They turn their reality into fantasy and their fantasy into reality. It was so bizarre and 4th wall breaking when the character just came out and said "I'm trans" in a deep fantasy game. It was actually jarring. Outside of that, I agree with many of the other comments on the game too. The dialogue is absolutely painfully one dimensional and the choices practically nonexistent. The biggest element of fantasy in this game is that it pretends to be an RPG.

As far as I'm concerned it's a fair take on both the game and the industry at large. You went into the game in an open and honest fashion, looked at all aspects of it fairly, then had the decency to revise your thoughts and speak truthfully about it. I can't speak for everyone but I wholly agree that if something that is meant to be fun, relaxing and enable people to connect with friends becomes a political platform used to push ideals and warp perceptions then ultimately it's a healthier choice to step away. Having said that, I hope this doesn't kill your drive or enjoyment of both gaming and reviewing games, as it is a breath of fresh air to have someone who is honest and down to earth about it all.

Regarding the notion of giving up gaming, I would say never give up. There is a pattern of narcissistic people (the ones who take delight in using double standards to cause others distress), and this pattern says that they are at their very worst just before "they" give up. We are nearing that point in global culture wars now. I believe that money talks and so do the traditional gamers they hope to silence. They have already lost, they just don't know it yet. There is a reason why so many people are so upset and specifically get upset at the immersion breaking and specifically use words like escapism. Gaming has been escapism in the modern day and a cure for a lot of modern ills for a lot of people, the type of thing that distracts you from the unfortunate realities they face in the modern world. Whether or not anyone sympathizes it's still the case and it's only going to get worse if they have no other outlet they find suitable that others may be able to find alternatives and continue to face these sermons in these games injected by writers that hate them in properties they loved for so long far before these people even knew they existed or realized the money they could make if they got into this industry they likely would have had no interest in rather than just persuing activist causes or political news journalism if it didn't have the overabundance of money and attention the industry came into exponentially especially post covid.

4:00 - And even though Taash is clearly in the wrong for not using his name, I'm pretty sure there is no way to call Taash on this and put them in their place, right? I get this impression there is no way to point out this hypocrisy because of "reasons".

Welcome to the fight (or at least now you see it). This is normal. Most people are casual with games like yourself. It’s just you can’t run from it. Things will get better. Go kick that ball, and the new era of gaming should be around in 5-10’years. Trust is hard to build and easy to destroy. The industry is doomed. New people will inspire and become the next big thing. It will get too big, get radical and we start the whole cycle again. Fun ain’t?

It is exhausting. Everyone on one side is exactly who they are said to be and so is the otherside. End of the day it's all just political football in a different arena.

The problem is, you can have an opinion without actually playing a game, if you see enough of the game to see what it is. Also the only way you can realistically tell a corporation to stop making trash is to not buy or even engage with it in any way. They will ignore words, or at the most just call you a toxic bigot if you have even the slightest critical thought.

The studio tried so hard to make the game seem good to trick people into buying it. All you 2 hour reviewers fell for it. Should play the whole game before reviewing it.

I respect your quest for neutrality. However, there comes a point we all have to pick a side. This isnt about inclusion , which I like. This is about forced compliance. Love your chanel and keep doing what your doing!

One of the big review copes was "it starts slow stick with it a few hours it gets much better" and I found the entire opposite. The writing gets more ham-fisted as it goes and things like how shallow and samey the combat is really start to stick out.

Its ok scarlet, u just need to make yourself some tea, maybe pour yourself a nice warm bath, and enjoy a good ol classic like dustborn

Honestly the Taash character is almost perfect as a mask off moment of what the "be kind" crowd is like in real life: constant demands you worship and validate how they feel at the moment, but having zero empathy for anyone else and resorting to insults whenever possible.

Instead of walking away from gaming, just play all the games that don't pander and shill ideology. By supporting those games, we get more of them. Also, kindly disagreeing with gaming being a "toy". No other art form has told and engrossed me in their stories as much various well made games. So quit books, tv, music and cinema while you're at it. Well made games are art. AND they can keep your brain fresh :)

Personally I’m having fun playing the game I just ignore all the political bs but that being said mass effect is probably their last shot assuming EA doesn’t just axe them💀

I think the issue itself isnt the idea of gender issues per se, but rather the way they went about it, more and more media companies rely on what id consider to be tokenization, ie; including topics or individuals in media purely based on one specific trait, as to seem diverse, rather than approaching subjects in an intelligent nuanced manner, letting people come to their own conclusions rather than being told how to think; I think it is one of the main differences between old bioware and new, old dragon age games tackled issues like being gay even in early titles like origins, however these topics were not the main crux of the story, and were handled in a way that felt more grounded. If I was transgender I would be insulted by a game like veilguard purely on the basis of how superficially these companies see issues and individuals.

I've just started playing classics. Been playing skyrim again, even heavily modded Baldurs gate. GOG is great because there's thousands of games pre them trying to brainwash everyone with them.

Honestly this kind of stuff is to be expected everytime things get too big they get ran by commitee. It mirrors what happens in yhe food industry when a successful chain gets sold to big business which then tamper with the recipes to save/make more money.

I understand your desire to stay out of the drama.... But at some point the drama drag's you in no matter what you do about it... And eventually you start to realize that your hobby has been taken hostage, and your way to escape is being destroyed bye.... Ideology and at some point you are going to get fed up with it.... your just not their yet... but trust me you will be their eventually.... many of us are just further along in this journey as we are likely older and have had more opportunity's to have this message and stupidity shoved down our throats..... And at some point those "KZbin" channels are going to look less like "grifters" trying to make money off the drama and more like "Warriors" fighting to clean up the hobby your missing..... "So I hear you and I understand your desire to stick your head in the sand and ignore it all" But that won't work forever....

And ps on toy comment: I hope nobody would take it badly. I do feel though activists might... they consider it more a tool than a toy, but that is whole other conversation. In the end all culture, entertainment and art are pretty much just that: toy for the excess and pleasure after basic needs are met. It might be educational or inspiring but it is neither food nor weapon (dang it, once again I see activists disagreeing) so it is not requirement for sustenance therefore it is by definition a toy. Be it visit in Theater, Playing game or taking part in sports competition and many more - those are toys for society. I do feel like it should be understood more these days. Which is somewhat funny as I come from city with strong sports hooligans culture back int he day. Seeing people end up in a hospital over freaking toys in the form of some soccer matches going one way or another. Then again we are humans we tend to get passionate over many things, it is part of what makes us human.

This force-fed agenda has ruined many games already, but Veilguard is really going beyond anything done yet. And this is coming from Bioware, a big name in the industry that created legendary games like ME. I really hope that on the long run this woke disaster went too far and people will start to vote with their wallets. Its the only way to show this industry that agenda driven fanatism is a NO GO in video games of any sort.

the whole pandering of current nonsense is enough to pull me out of any game and film experience. AAA games are just vehicles to include this stuff at this point supported by places like Blackrock I guess yeah I think it's certainly got to that point that people are starting to question wanting to be part of gaming in it's current form. It's quite an easy thing to abandon given there's so much of a back catalog on various systems that if it had to be, I really wouldn't care if the industry died right here because it can't be enjoyed like this

3:15 Now I don't have the slightest problem with trying to use whatever pronouns people prefer and I really don't get what all the "anti-woke" outrage is about, but I have to admit -- having the NB character, of all people, wilfully and spitefully ignoring someone's pleas to call them by their actual name is pretty fucking hilarious.

I understand you’re facing an internal conflict with regard to the very negative discourse online surrounding identity politics in video games. My hope for you is that you’re able to avoid that cesspool as much as possible. While enjoying games from smaller studios where identity politics is not present. If you need any recommendations, let me know!

I would have normally given this game a chance because I do not fully trust any review, meaning I would have purchased it and tried it. However, there is a line in the sand for me, and I am firm on it. If the developers want to preach modern day nonsense at me, through well established titles that would have mocked the very same shit in the day in which the original was made, essentially spitting in my face, then I have no interest in giving them a fucking cent of my money. Not one cent. I am relieved to see that gamers have turned their backs on this game.
