Bob Clampett's Tex & Judy

One of the most bizarre animations I've ever seen. Bob Clampett's 1962 attempt to merge live-action and animation, to the soundtrack of an old Judy Canova radio show. Judy lip-synchs her own voice, Benny Rubin moves his mouth to Mel Blanc's words, and Billy Gilbert shows up to sneeze.

Bob Clampett certainly was way ahead of his time. This stuff is interesting. Too bad it was never finished. Tex certainly sounds like Yosemite Sam, though. Like a lot.

Hilarious....but it's interesting that the Tex character, intentionally or coincidentally, looks a lot like the Friz Freleng character of Yosemite Sam...complete with the long red mustache. The voice Mel uses is, of course, the one he used for Sam in the Bugs Bunny cartoons.

The audio comes from the Judy Canova show, which was recorded at the old CBS radio studios called Columbia Square. Most likely the piano was played by a musician under contract to the network.
