Addressable devices have a small microchip in them with allows them to communicate with the panel. This allows for every device in the system to be read as an individual "point", unlike a conventional system where there may be several devices on one zone, and the panel doesn't know exactly which device activated. An addressable monitor module allows a standard non-addressable device to be used on an addressable system.

There is a small keyswitch on the keypad which prevents any buttons from being pushed unless it's turned. It acts as a substitute for a dead front.

How did you manage to keep the light on the av32 through silence?

My guess is that they're wired separately and the "Silence" button only turns off the outputs used for horns and bells.
