Honestly the biggest highlight of the year for me was cimo creating the master duel masochist series. That series made me get back into master duel again and the challenge made the game so nuch for fun. It was also amazing seeing how many smaller yugitubers put their hat in the ring and attempt the challenge. Also, i found a master duel masochist discord and seeing everyone's playthroughs through discord, seeing all of their decks, discovering interesting tech they were using with their pile of cards was honestly so fun and wholesome.

Agreed. While losing continually to full constructed decks can suck, those moments when you can compete, and even win feel so amazing, and on the rare moments where you come across another masochist, well, get ready for some chaos, because that match will be wild.

Cannot agree more. Probably the biggest pro for the year. I hadn't played Master Duel in years and TCG just keeps revolving around broken and oppressive decks that (after PAYING MONEY to get curb stomped at my locals every week was getting demoralizing) when Cimo posted the Masochist Challenge, I could play a lot of yugioh, for much lower cost and have some of the best games I've ever played.

My boyfriend had gotten onto the organizers for a VRChat game show group he joined a few months prior. He was so surprised that he impressed the other organizers so much to give him the job, that during a trip into Fort Wayne, he decided to buy a box of Rarity Collection. Usually he has very poor pulls with these kind of products, but apparently the fates decided to reward him for his good luck by allowing him to pull a Quarter Century Secret Rare Ash Blossom. He was so hyped about it, and instantly bought a plastic card protector for prize cards to carbonite it. It was a nice moment for us, and I hope he gets more of them in the Yugioh scene.

Fr, I don't get the vehement hate towards Rush Duel. Everyone bitches about the game being too expensive, Rush Duel is a literal alt format that is CHEAPER to get into (at least, I assume it's a cheap alt format in the OCG compared to the price point of the main game), and is FUN to play...yet everyone hates on it still as if it ruined their breakfast every morning. Like...do you WANT the game to turn away new players or not??? More options is never a bad thing!

My highlight will just be getting back into Yugioh after not playing after 2005. Sure it's only master duel, not paper, but being able to play and falling in love with Tearlaments (despite all of its controversies) genuinely made me enjoy the game again. I know they get a lot of flack for the Tear 0 stuff, but I just love the mermaids too much.

a personal highlight of mine for this year was topping an "event" for the first time, even if that event was one of Farfa's LCSs Went 5-2 with Pure Red-Eyes (4 of those wins were back to back Round 1-4). Made top 16 and lost to Timelords + Cauldron of the Old Man but still, highlight of the year for me

I was able to go to locals a bunch this year, went to ycs Indianapolis with my friend, pulled S:P in the first pack of AGOV i ever opened, completed multiple new decks, Salad support was sick as hell, hero topped nats, jeff summoned exodia, and I got cards signed by awesome people in the community. Loved the rarity collection and the diversity of the format post arise ban.

This past week has been a highlight for me. For my birthday (Dec. 6th), MD finally put Dis Pater into MD (Dec 5th), a card my MD deck has been missing for months and then released the Shuraig mate (Dec. 7), one I'll probably be using forever unless they eventually give us a Blackwing mate. But I do have a better answer. The finals of German Nationals. The game 3 that made everyone say "We need to ban Eradicator" after the Lab player sniped the Kash player's entire hand. The best part is Eradicator hardly being relevant to the meta since that game.

My favorite moment of 2023 was how many LGSes shut down after a solid year of negative value sets ended by two absolute bangers releasing within a week of each other making it impossible for most shops to focus on both due to sustained negative cashflow. Thanks Konami! Better luck next year.

a selfish one for me but I entered a master duel tournament and, despite it being a total mess on the part of the organisers, I had a ton of fun. Being able to speak with the people there gave the game a whole new dimension and the extra prusure of having to face 4 kash in a row with no breaks with the final one being the person that knocked me into the losers bracket equal parts stressful as it was exhilarating. I unfortunately only got second place due to a series of back to back missplays but this, along with the rarity collection, were the last push I needed to also begin playing paper. My first locals is next week and I'm really excited about it.
