48 Laws of Power changed my Life. It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve read it, and have since quit drinking, have invested my time reading history, and philosophy. He pulled a veil from my eyes, and now I’m able to see the world with a clearer head. Thank You Mr Holiday, loved your recent book.

I havn’t read it, but based on what Ryan is saying here it doesn’t really seem to align with “what injuries the hive injuries the bee”. If I’m not doing the right thing because I should be looking out for my bosses ego or will in order to keep my job, aren’t I then working against the stoic principles? It’s not to get into a long discussion - in essence I’m just curious to your take on this as you’ve read the book and I havn’t😊 I guess I’ll read it but I’m just confused as to how it aligns with Stoicism...

@@kamillahjriisgaarde9665 Absolutely! When I read the 48 Laws I loved the Dale Carnegie kind of format. Learning from a brilliant mind is being gifted with new wisdom. Nietzsche was a misogynist (amongst other things) but his books are just as relevant now more than ever, it’s scary. I can keep going on but I don’t want to bore you. Mr. Holidays books and Mr Greene’s books offer us insights to people who think radically different. I hope you enjoy it and try not to see it as “ A How to be a Villain” but a “Who else Lives in My Hive” 😊

Don't outshine your boss. YUP. I caught my boss completing fraud against the company. I went to HR and asked what to do? The next day I was brought into the office of HR with my boss, door closed and I was given the option to quit or go on a performance improvement plan that I was told would result in my termination. I was so confused, but I was told that I was putting the company in an awkward position that they did not want to deal with. They gave me $10,000 to walk away, which sounds like a lot of money, but compared to a JOB, it is nothing. Months later, my boss was promoted! People in power, have POWER! A hard lesson to learn that companies talk about ethics, but when the rubber meets the road, they don't...

it's not really remembering that matters. it's taking action on probably less than a paragraph, every single day, that matters. like bruce lee's quote about 1 kick, 1000 times. anyway, for remembering there is a lot of resources around meta-learning, like the ebbinghaus forgetting curve, spaced repetition, and simply taking notes. most e-book platforms (like apple books) have a way to export notes. i email them to myself and review those instead of working through a book.

The 48 Laws of Power are extracted from the 300 aphorisms of the book “The Art of Worldly Wisdom” written by the Spanish, XVII century priest and philosopher, Baltasar Gracián. The first law is the 7th, aphorism, for example. However, Robert Greene, made a superb work of investigation to illustrate, with a fluid written style, the (extracted aphorisms) laws with examples of their practical application by historic personages. I consider the 50 Cent Law as good as The 48 Laws, it gives a new optic on the way we can handle our lives and their problems.

There have been many books that have been life changers. Starting with The Secret Garden which sparked my love of reading to Quiet, The Power of the Introvert in a World that Won’t Stop Talking. “Quiet” encouraged me to be me. It helped me appreciate that quiet thoughtful people can be influential too, and being a person of character and not one of personality is valuable quality. Lastly, all of Joseph Goldstein’s books on Buddhism and meditation.

Currently reading "Meditations." May I offer you or anyone reading; To Become A Human Being by Steve Wall. Wall captures the recordings and words of Native American Tadodaho Chief Leon Shenandoah. His words are profoundly equal to that of Marcus Aurelius. Simply stated, his words are a majestic and simple path to walk your journey in life as a stoic in my view. Enjoy.

I started to read the 48 laws a few years ago and stopped because I found it immoral. Recently I was thinking about giving it another chance since I am much more mature now. Since I was binge watching your channel I endup seeing this vid and it's just the perfect timing. Will read it now. Meditations I'm already reading and the novel seems promising.
