That Christmas album is the exact one my parents owned and now me, and it's the first Elvis album I ever heard. I knew Hound Dog and a few other early hits but that was the first thing I ever played, and I got to bring it to school one Christmas around 1970 and play a couple of tracks, as every kid got to bring something. I was 5. I brought Elvis. Always major memories just seeing it. My first Elvis purchase a few years later was Golden Records, Vol 1, and then his first album; had to have Blue Suede Shoes but then loved the whole thing of course.

Mark Is Back! It's not weird at all that you wondered why a Christmas album would advertise the same Christmas record on the back cover. It just shows that your 5-year-old self put more thought into Elvis' covers than RCA did. As for me, the first record that started it was The Girl of My Best Friend, a UK 45. Then the Elvis' 40 Greatest double LP, and the first record I bought, I think, was G.I. Blues. See you soon on the Forum.

Believe it or not my first exposure that I recall as the album "Clambake". I loved it, now keep in mind I was 9 years old and was not far past listening to little yellow 78 rpm discs with kiddie songs on them. I was soon after exposed to numerous albums by a friend and was hooked. Very sorry to hear about your mom, that's something that's never easy. I didn't really appreciate Elvis' Christmas music fully until I was a little older. I lost my own mother as a young boy shortly before Christmas, all through my teenage years, despite our best efforts, there was always an empty feeling during the holidays. Only later when I began to seriously date the girl who became my lovely wife did that begin to pass, especially when we had kids of our own and had a chance to build new positive memories.

My older brother's purchases of the 8-track tape "ELVIS ALOHA FROM HAWAII" and the 8-track tape "ELVIS" (1973 tv commercial for 20 golden hits) were the first two Elvis albums that I heard over and over and over and over! May fandom goes back to age 3, 1976. My grandmother had the orange label 45 for Burning Love / It's A Matter of Time, the Camden releases, Separate Ways and You'll Never Walk Alone, and the very same Christmas album you displayed. From there, she bought me the Candlelight Music / RCA release, "The Elvis Presley Story," five records full of fantastic songs, exposing me to the broad swath of EP's career. Still have it today. Hello, Mark. I was one of those “late bloomers” that you referred to, although I vividly recall watching the January 14th, 1973 “Aloha From Hawaii-Via Satellite” concert on TV with my mom and brother (Dad was at work) and I was 10 years old at the tome and really enjoyed the concert! However, I never thought of actually buying Elvis’ records until AFTER he had passed. The very first album I bought in September of 1977 was the Pickwick/Camden “Double Dynamite” in a Thrifty Drug Store near my home. I knew “Burning Love”, of course and always loved the song. The rest of the songs on the album were all new to me! Soon after this, I bought “Elvis Country” and that’s the one that really gave me the push to keep buying! After my older sister knew that I was getting into Elvis’ music, she gave me her original copy of the 1968 “TV Special” album. From the first time I played it, I was IMMEDIATELY hooked, so I would say that particular album was my ultimate Favorite Elvis album that really drew me in and I haven’t looked back! Great video, Mark and “Elvis’ Golden Records, Vol. 3” is another huge favorite for me as well! Walter

ill add this as well, the moody blue and elvis Boulevard albums really turned my head in my late teens. i thought his voice was the most powerful it had been, i listened to hurt over and over, thinking his voice might have actually hit its peak at that time. that started my love for the 76-77 years.

@@SpencerCollectsElvis Hi, Spencer. Sounds like you and I are around the same age. I turned 15 in 1977, just a week before Elvis passed. At first, I thought that the “From Elvis Presley Boulevard” album was great and Elvis’ voice was great, albeit a bit too operatic when compared with his voice in 1972, when he sang “Burning Love”. But to me, the “Boulevard” album is too melodramatic except for the hit song, “For The Heart”, which is actually the only upbeat song on the entire album. I much more preferred the “Moody Blue” album! Just my opinion 😁 Walter

Sorry to hear you have lost your mother recently Mark. Introducing you to the musical world of Elvis is a gift for life and a gift that keeps on giving. My passion for Elvis was passed on to me by my father. I remember in 1978 going to a record store in Zwolle (Netherlands) with him, where he told me a very famous American singer had died and he wanted to buy a record. I was 5 at the time. That evening we went home with the European K-tel compilation Love Songs which was advertised on TV. I played that record to pieces and asked for Elvis records at each opportunity. Years later (at age 12) I bought my 1st LP myself: the Worlds Fair soundtrack. Was impressed by the cover but a bit dissapointed by the music. The record grew on me. Thanks for the video pal, enjoyed it.
