Dude, you have a way of demystifying approaches to the guitar unlike any other teacher on KZbin. Much appreciated.

Good lesson. It's easier to visualize scales "modes" on a keyboard, as in just the white notes in the key of C major if you start on C. Just the white notes in A natural minor starting on A also known as Aeolian mode. Just the white notes starting on g makes G mixolydian.

Quick question: did I understand it correctly when you said that the A Mixolydian scale is the D major scale played over the key of A? If so, is that true of all 5 major positions? Also, would that mean that playing the major scale of the 4th in the 1 key (Playing the G major scale over the key of D, for example) is playing the Mixolydian Mode ? Modes have always driven me crazy but, I know my major scales in all of the keys in all of the positions. If all I have to think is, I'm in A, so to play Mixolydian I just need to play the D major scale in this position... or, I'm in the key of G so, I just need to play the C major scale in this position, well, that makes things a whole lot easier for me to comprehend... that Mode, at least. Do the other modes work in that way, I wonder? I'll have to watch Brian's videos on the modes and see what he has to say.

Question, when you play the a shape using two notes, are you still playing the root note? Do I need to play it or does it not matter? I'm just curious and I love your lessons by the way
@userer4579 Жыл бұрын
You can answer that question for yourself if you look at the three shapes Brian plays in this video. Which notes is he playing when he is playing the "A-shape"?

When he plays the a shape at 5:35 which is a d chord (more specifically a triad, thd root (d) is on the third string 7th fret so he is not playing the root in that instance.

Just a quick sanity check, the interval he's playing over the E shape is actually a harmonized 5th (not 6th), right?

There's no catches with Brian. He delivers more content here for free than you could learn in hours of paid lessons and then if you want the whole deal with all the bells and whistles (and some of them are very helpful) then you pay the very modest subscription rate. A years worth of constant content for the price of a meal out for two at a chain restaurant. I've been a premium subscriber of Brian's for a few years and my only regret is that I haven't take advantage of more of the wisdom and chops he offers.
