I have a tummy and a rather flat bottom, and I always feel like the half tuck just highlights both of those things. I want to love the half tuck, it looks great on other people, but I just don’t like it for me.

I doubt I’ll change my mind about pointed toe heels 👠 only because I can’t walk in heels! I hate them! *My suggestion for a part 2 video is: I HATE DRESSES & SKIRTS! 🤦🏼‍♀️🙄 Do you hate me now!? Lmao 😜 I guess that I just don’t care for them because I was MADE TO WEAR THEM AS A CHILD! *Note: I have very thin/fine hair, & because of this fact my mama would keep my hair SUPER SHORT! I was wearing a DRESS as a toddler & got called a BOY! This really made her mad! She said that she yelled @ this person “Can’t you see she is wearing a dress? She is not a BOY!” *I wore dresses until I was old enough to tell her I don’t want to wear them anymore! I know this is probably “weird”…but this is my truth about my “hate” for dresses/skirts! I literally love them on other people! I feel like my body isn’t right for them yet…still losing weight! I have the tummy that sticks out…it’s an entire video, I swear! Hahahaha 😜 I just wonder if anyone else is LIKE ME????

@@nicole9105 I recently saw the half tuck. It looked cute on my daughter in law. I tried it this am, but it didn’t seem right for going to work. I’ll try it again on a weekend when I’m dressing very casual. Have you tried it?

I hadn’t heard of Golden Goose before this video, but now that I’ve heard you say $600 for sneakers that were made to look dirty or worn in, there in lies the problem. And now I dislike them too! I would say buy dupes and wear them in yourself. As far as as name brand sneakers, I’ve always liked the classic Converse All Stars, they look good clean, they look good worn down, they can be worn with practically anything, and they are reasonably priced.

I have no hate list. We can all make our own decisions. I come to Erin’s channel for her considered opinion; she is the one with the channel who has made the effort and investment to research these things. Then I make my own decisions given my body, my budget, my preferences. It’s all good. That said, Erin is brilliant and beautiful and I’m thankful to be able to follow her.

I'm with you on the ironing/steaming. I hate it and I'm not doing it. I still wear linen though because the second you put it on it's wrinkled anyway so there is no use worrying about wrinkles. I just accept it as part of linen's charm.

I love white pants and jeans and use a trick my mom taught me years ago,- SCOTCH GUARD THEM! It keeps the stains at bay ( they still will get normal dirty) but the wash great (lasts about 10 washes). Two things to watch: use spray, not foam, and always spray in ventilated space. My mom has done the front of my dad's polo shirts for decades! It also works on white shoes!

I love the ‘half’ or ‘French’ tuck. I think it’s actually helped me look more put together. You can see that I’m wearing a belt which helps the overall put together look. I do think it helps detract from a tummy issue. If you’re just wearing your shirt untucked then it’s like you’re trying to hide and that makes you look bigger. The little tuck in the front creates an asymmetry that helps pull your eyes away or down to your rear. I love your videos and content. I hope others glean as much style help and encouragement as I have. TY 🥰🥰🥰

-$400 sneaks are not a prudent choice for me. Have found the Naturalizers are great, on my 2nd pair. -half tuck is great, been doing it for years, glad it’s finally acceptable. -What!?!? Hate white pants and jeans? Linen… I just got into it the last two years. I don’t have a ton but I have a variety of linen tops and pants, most of which I have found secondhand. As a 60-year-old woman I find them extremely comfortable in the hot weather. I do not put them in the dryer. I do not iron them, I just hang them to dry, shake them out every once in a while while they’re still damp and they seem to come out fine. I love the natural fabric and I love that they are so breathable in these hot humid Chicago summers ☀️😊

Hi Erin, first, I would like to say that I am a huge fan! I discovered your channel a couple of months ago and, since then, have been binge watching your videos. You have helped me so much to find the joy in fashion again (which I had lost years ago), so I would like to thank you for that. I would like to share my experience with high heels/pointed shoes: I used to wear these kinds of shoes, but about 5 years ago, I started to experience pain in my foot and toes. Long story short, I was diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma, a VERY painful condition that I have been dealing with ever since. There is no easy fix to this, I spend years trying to deal with this problem, and now, I am scheduled for a surgery in 4 (!!!) years. Even with the surgery, there is no guarantee that the Neuroma won't come back. It is an extremely depressing situation. In summer, I can only wear flip-flops, and in winter, I was lucky enough to find a pair of winter boots that are ok for me. Even sneakers hurt my foot. I just thought, I would like to warn women about this (as this is a problem that mainly affects women due to high heels/pointy shoes). Hi from Edmonton, Canada : )

I have a Neuroma and THE THING that has helped me the most is stretching my calves. Per a podiatrist, tight calves pull on your foot and cause misalignment. Hang off the end of a step for 30 seconds, 3 sets. Work up to 60 seconds, 3 sets. And agree that footwear needs to fit properly. Take care.

I have a 6 months pregnant-looking belly but am not plus-sized. I just carry my extra 10-15 pounds all around the belly and back. Half-tuck looks absurd on me, totally screams "LOOK AT MY HUGE BELLY!" So I have to pass on that one. I opt for tops that are looser around the middle (skimming but not at all tight) and that end mid to mid-to low pooch area, so it really camouflages it well.

LOVE IT ALL!!! Very rarely do I say that!! Even linen, as I live in Australia where it's hot and humid in summer. I find if you buy good quality linen it tends to hang out pretty easily, whereas the fine stuff creases like crazy and looks like you're wearing a potato sack. I'm still wearing 'those shoes,' btw, even at 71! Pumps made in Portugal, Spain or Italy are so comfy...I just kick them off under the table when I'm out to dinner!! Thank you gorgeous girl!!! I’ve found that the real problem with linen is not the little, soft wrinkles but the big creases that happen from the spin cycle in the washer that never come out. There’s two things to minimize these, if not get rid of them entirely (this also works with other natural fabrics). The most involved step, pre soaking, only needs to be done once.* Setting your washer’s spin cycle is relatively easy. The reason why linen gets these knife edge creases from the washer is two-fold. First linen has a long straight fiber (or staple) compared to cotton. When you first get a garment it generally still has some type of coating still on it, some from nature, some from the manufacturing process. If you throw it directly into the washer the fibers will not have enough time to soak in the water before it’s spun out and the centrifugal force will “break” the fiber where it is bent. Pre soaking it in enough tepid water it can freely float for a minimum of 30 minutes gives the fibers enough time to fully hydrate and to relax. I sew so I often have multiple yards of linen to pre soak so I use my bathtub for that a large plastic container would work fine for smaller pieces. The second thing that you want to address is the speed of the spin cycle. Most modern front loaders can spin fast enough to get a jet off the ground. Great for wringing out towels. Terrible for finer fabrics. You will want to set it to its lowest setting or stop it from spinning at all. Yes, it will take longer to drip dry but it will make the clothing last so much longer. If you want to soften the linen you can either iron it at the end or throw it in the dryer once it’s mostly dry just to bang it around. *The pre soaking needs to be done before the garment gets all wrinkled. If it comes in the mail with creases then you will need to beat it up a bit before pre soaking. Lowering the speed of the wring cycle is something that you will want to do every time you wash the garment.

I simply soak linen pieces in the bathtub with hand-wash soap. Sometimes I leave white linen pieces soaking overnight. Then just rinse and hang to dry in the morning. No need for the washing machine at all. I smooth out the fabric with my fingers and never need to iron, It works like a charm.

Interesting post, thanks Erin! I love the half-tuck, white jeans and linen. As for the oversized blazer, I don't hate it, just not sure it works for me being 5'2, unless I wear shorts. As for Golden Goose sneakers, not an option for me, I have white Adidas I prefer and love just fine. I adore Linen, especially this year, and Linen unlike most other materials gets softer with time..What I really didn't like and probably hated was the video posted before where you wrap your wide-legged pants into your espadrilles. I wanted to like it but just couldn't.

After not being a linen fan in the past, I've been doing a lot of linen blazers to work this summer to good effect. I've started rolling or pushing up the sleeves, which not only makes the outfit even cooler, it had the side effect of making the sleeves look more intentionally rumpled, if that makes sense. Also, I've found that hanging them for a few days between wears allows gravity to take care of the worst of the wrinkles. I'm trying to get on board the half-tuck train, but it's a struggle for this triangle. Going to test out some of the tips here though.

I have recently discovered this channel and have been trying the half tuck for the past week. This tip was completely new to me. First time I tried it I hated it. I realised that I was tucking the front in too tightly without giving it a gentle tug for a soft fold at the front. Once I figured that out, second time and beyond…it really works!!! Thank you.

Another alternative to the half tuck is your brilliant suggestion to use a hair elastic on the inside of a boxy tee-shirt to create ruching that takes the fullness out for way more waist definition in the front while preserving some of the length in the back. Dresses up a dowdy tee in a major way while keeping it casual. I’ve even used it to temporarily transform a scoop neck to a V-neck. Totally the best hack of the year and maybe even ever! Can’t thank you enough for that one because I’d completely given up on boxy tees. (maybe link it below)

Back when the half tuck initially first came out from JCrew’s Jenna Lyons, I thought it was straight up weird. But it didn’t take long for me to appreciate its leg-lengthening properties. I swear by it for pretty much every outfit. I initially thought it was weird paying for designer distressed Golden Goose as well. Now they are practically the only sneakers I wear. 1) It gives that off-duty model effortless look. 2) After Golden Goose I cannot fathom wearing clean white sneakers living in a dust bowl. I used to swear by white bottoms when I was younger & skinnier. Now they sometimes make me self conscious of my hips, so I wear them a lot less (besides dusty climate). Plus for some reason they often look cheaper than denim on me, so my options seem more limited. For blazers the problem for me is that it’s too linear for my Kibbe theatrical romantic body shape. I do like jackets though.

I refused to wear any high heel after I retired. Yes, I still have a nude and black pair that are 4 in heels but I never grab them because they kill my feet after I walk a short distance. I actually wore heels to a fancy wedding and I took them off when leaving and walked barefoot to the car a block away and I did not care how I looked. I do have a pair of Louise Et Cie that are not so high…maybe 3 inch? They are gorgeous black and white and pretty darn comfy ,even with a pointy toe! So my plan is to wear boots and 2” block heels in winter and a heeled sandal in summer ,not to exceed 2” in height. I have learned my lesson! Took me 60 years though. So Sam Edelman, Dolce Vita, and Vince Camuto are my go to shoes! Blazers! I love them! I am seriously addicted to them! I have at least 18-20 of them! And I do have three linen and one silk blazer! I dry clean them at home with Woolite dry cleaner and take them to the cleaners to be pressed for $4 each. The rest are cotton, poly, or a sweater blazer. ( love J Crew sweater blazer) also I wear the heck out of my two fatigue military style blazers. Just right for warm weather. I always grab one when I go out to eat because I freeze in restaurants. Yes, I have several white pants including a Lysse pair of white denim leggings which I adore! I wear jeans almost every day now and I need options so white it is! I do like ecru too. Not giving them up! I just wear them shopping or out to eat. Golden goose? No way. I hate the “dirty look”. And no sneaker is worth $500! Sorry ! Oh, just want to mention that Nordstrom will alter any of their blazers so take advantage of that! $200 worth in free alterations ! And the Anniversary Sale starts in 2 weeks!❤️ Have a wonderful summer!

The whole goal and point of warderobe styling for 45+ age group is looking more sophisticated(taller, leaner, chicer and more youthful). I just can't get behind the trend of tucking your shirt in. As a size 16 apple I have way too much of a belly line to feel comfortable with it. I also have very large bust and tucking my shirt in at all just makes my whole torso look like a pair of boobs. I like a blouse that is hip length. If the blouse flares out at the bottom a little or has side splits it's the most flattering on me.

I really enjoyed this video! 😁 Years and years and years ago I was working in the designer department at Nordstrom’s. We received some summer dresses in a heavier weight linen that had some slubs and wrinkles and that actually looked wonderful. It was comfortable on and was cut so the fabric (especially the skirt) moved beautifully around a moving body. That was a linen that (according to the mfgrs rep) did not need ironing. I have to agree. If the linen has more weight and some texture it is very tolerable as a travel piece, roll it to pack.. Linen mixes can work too. On the other end of the spectrum a few years ago I came across a very inexpensive (ok, downright cheap) long simple 20%Linen 80% Rayon mix dress, at Walmart of all places, that looks perfect right out of the dryer. It’s comfortable and smooth on the skin, cool to wear (not quite as cool as linen in high humidity), and it simply doesn’t wrinkle. It’s kind of a miracle fabric.

I love rayon for summer! Especially weave although jersey is nice too. But it cannot be in a blend with spandex. Spandex rayon jersey is THE worst, shiny cheap looking, awfully unflattering fabric. It used to be that you could only find it in the cheapest brands but now I see it everywhere! Down to designer items! Yuck.

Hey Erin, I’ve tried but I can’t do white jeans. But I do love love pointed shoes. Bared footwear make great pointed shoes that accomodate wider toes and some shoe styles come with a fit kit for not so wide feet.. ❤❤❤

These are ALL (seriously ALL) literally my favorites. I love and appreciate you taking the time to explain what makes these so great, (like them or not) as opposed to my knee jerk reaction of, How could anyone possibly not love these!? Great job, great post. Thank you!!!

I'll take my Keds any day over those Golden Goose :) I wear my white Keds the most but have a collection of all different colors and patterns of Keds.

I love Keds, been wearing them for years. They were hard to find for awhile so I was buying Tommy Hilfiger's, inexpensive and comfortable. With on-line shopping I am back to Keds.

I like everything on this list with the exception of Golden Goose sneakers. I have a sneaker wardrobe that I love and am happy with though!

I looooove the half tuck. I'm5'1" 120lbs. My shirts are ALWAYS -well unless they are cropped--too long. The half-tuck has been a lifesaver for me. I'm 79 years old by the way.
