half of these can be found relatively easily in the reptile trade a lot are captive bred but the sad thing is when you see a wild caught reptile that's endangered/threatened.
@taeviansworldofreptiles3828
@taeviansworldofreptiles3828 5 жыл бұрын
I am torn on this. Yes it is sad to see a creature that is endangered in captivity BUT I think it could be beneficial in the long run. For example lets think about Axolotls. They are are very endangered in the wild. BUT in captivity they are THRIVING. So when the wild population is finally extinct their species isnt gone from the earth forever! So I think it can be beneficial to take in some select few wild caught creatures to breed in captivity to keep the number of the animals alive on the earth UP.
@jaegerthegreat7619
@jaegerthegreat7619 5 жыл бұрын
Yes for suresome of the captive lines in the pet trade can get a little murky after a while though, lots of inbreedingA lot of people are against captivity but for instance the zoo I intern/volunteer at releases Puerto Rican crested toads. Many hobbyists would jump at the chance to breed endangered species for a captive breeding program (myself included)

Like 1/4 of these are not even endangered, 5:41 also there are a ton of New Caledonian Gecko species some of them can be bought at a pet shop for like 30 usd, so not gunna leave this plant any time soon. The ones shown in the video are Chahoua btw, unlike the video leads you to believe, they are not even close to being the largest gecko species, I think they are trying to talk about leachie (ig its still as New Caledonian Gecko), what im trying to say is that there is not a species called a New Caledonian Gecko, its a large group of geckos. This videos goal was still pure and good im not try'n to hate im just saying.

We can keep these creatures from going completely extinct if we can breed them in captivity at least they wont disappear from the world for ever. Much like Axolotls! @@noahdacheese839 So I just learned that there are at two types of leachie geckos. According to wikipedia, "Rhacodactylus leachianus, commonly known as the New Caledonian giant gecko or Leach's giant gecko, is a large species of gecko, first described by Georges Cuvier in 1829, which is endemic to New Caledonia." And, according to Reptiles Magazine, "One of the most spectacular and sought-after species of the Rhacodactylus genus is R. leachianus, with two subspecies that are presently recognized as giant geckos from New Caledonia, a group of islands northeast of Australia. They are Rhacodactylus leachianus leachianus, found on Grande Terre (GT), the largest New Caledonia island, and Rhacodactylus leachianus henkeli, found on Pine Island (Isle of Pines) and other smaller islands."

aquadraco20 they are Chahoua geckos, not even largest. Leachies are the largest, growing to about the forearm and bicep of an adult male so like 20 inches about. I breed Leachies with a friend.
