Like I've said many times before -- the Galaps are funny and they have personality. Sometimes, they look like they want to eat Kenan. Other times, they seem almost appreciative of his presence! Nice to see Darwin and Lumpy are doing better now.

I’m only 30 minutes from your Veterinarian. At 60 years old, I just got my first reptile, a Ball Python I’ve named Darwin. Charles Darwin is my hero and your tortoise named Darwin were the inspiration behind my naming him the same. I am using your Vet for my snake if I ever need help for him and I already trust that man because of how he’s helped you. Thanks for all you do to teach people like me and because of the reptile channels from here in Florida that I watch, I now have MY first reptile. 🐍❤️🐍

Honestly we need more channels that aren’t afraid to show the issues that can pop up, instead of trying to hide it and pretend like nothing ever goes wrong. Personally I have a larger collection and I really beat myself up if anything goes wrong, so seeing that others deal with the same thing and how they handle it is very helpful to me.

Rough year for myself too. Never lost a tail to my pets until this year. Happened to a few of them. Lost clutches of eggs due to the incubator breaking and being out of town, a few babies born too early, trouble getting insects in, had a raccoon attack on some turtles like yourself as well as getting some stolen, and for the first year I’ve had bad injuries raising up baby bearded dragons despite taking every precaution and not having a single issue in the years I’ve done it. Just overall very frustrating and stressful.

Clearly these episodes when we help our critters bonds us closer to them and they to us. It’s my belief that they do understand that when they are weak and vulnerable and we help them that it is a trust building time. They know we did not take advantage of their vulnerability when many times in nature they would have been abandoned by their group or would have fallen prey to a predator. You rock Kenan, thanks for reminding us that out of bad things in life, good can come out from bad.

Thank you Kenan this was a very inspirational story. I don’t have any animals now had some as a kid not what I would have liked. Then many different ones with my kids as they were growing up. Now I get to live my dream through great guys like you. You’ve done amazing with your animals. Anyone can see how much you care for them and even other people’s animals. My mom is highly highly highly scared of snakes. It doesn’t matter what kind if she sees one on TV before turning the channel she will have some extreme nightmares. All she has to do is see it or if we even talk about them to much. Had a King snake in our basement when I was a teen. It had dirt in the lower area way in the back. We lived out in the boonies or the middle of nowhere. It was going after other snakes this was down south. This caused a lot of nightmares for her. So other than fish and turtles that’s about her limit. So thanks again for a wonderful video. Yes, I feel Darwin knows what you did for her helped her to recover a lot faster or saved her. Animals are smarter than people allow. 💚❤️🐢❤️💚

I absolutely believe that Darwin is grateful to you. I have bred show dogs (I stopped!) and I moved in doing rescue and rehab for abused dogs. Let me tell you, you can breed and raise a dog from a puppy, and they'll be fun to have - but there is NOTHING like the love and gratitude you will get from a rescue dog (or cat). Please rescue before you breed or buy from a breeder! Only then will you know what true loyalty is.

I love watching you after dinner, your vids are relaxing and warm hearted. I cried when I thought you lost each of your wards, but Slinky was the hardiest. I wanted to skip to the end or end it but you never gave up on him really. I have had lizards, guinea pigs, dogs, cats and birds. But losing my PTSD dog Toby about killed me. He died after a freak accident and he was 19 yrs old. But he died in my arms at 4am. No 24hr vets in our area, we tried making it till the morning, but lost him. It took me months to get a new one. Then my wife took it into her own hands and brought in a new dog. I tried not to love her, but she was abused and needed a home. Her name is Sofie and is so smart. I trained her so she can go everywhere with me. I can eat a steak dinner and the plate is 4ins from her face she will never touch it. I give her a piece or three when I leave the restaurant. Wait staff are amazed and I swear Toby has schooled before I got her, because she does little things I need to be out among people. It's sad to say at 65yrs old I feel safe to come out of my house because of a 12 pound dog...lol

As far as stories go, about a year ago I took on a couple of pythons that had birth defects and they weren’t expected to live. One had one eye and some minor neurological issues. The other had pin eyes and some more serious neurological issues. I for the life of me couldn’t get the one eyed snake to eat. It got to the point that I had to start tube feeding the animal or it would have just wasted away. The pin eyes animal started eating but needed to be assisted each time. A month or so ago the little guy that needed assistance started being able to feed himself!! The other one eye snake still needed tube fed. Which was heart wrenching every time. Last weekend I tried to assist the one eyed animal and she ate. I was in shock. This little girl is half the size of the one who was eating the whole time. Not much bigger than a hatchling. Now I just hope she continues to eat with assistance until she gets the routine down. I have a handful of python stories but those two are my latest.

What a wild year for you thank you for taking us along on your journey and not hiding the reality of keeping animals which is really that accidents happen. This video came at the perfect time. I raise birds and one of the finches I produced started having stress induced seizures yesterday and now I’m trying to figure out how to help him. To my surprise he was up and acting normal this morning, but I don’t know what will trigger his seizures again so now I’m trying to keep him calm and find a permanent solution for him that will give him the best quality of life. Days like yesterday make me wonder why I do this, but ultimately it’s because I love all my birds and other animals for that matter. Thanks for the video!💕

There's definitely something to be said about having a vet that is willing to fight for an animal's life. It doesn't matter how big or how small, life is worth protecting. My last guinea pig Mocha got a very bad abscess when she was about 2 years old. The vet told me that it might cause her to lose her eye, and if that happened she had a very low chance of surviving. But we did everything for her. She was given medication and her teeth were trimmed. I hand fed her food and water every 4 hours for days and days. I barely slept so I could make sure she didn't go too long without food or water. And she pulled through! She lost a tooth permanently along the way, and her eye never fully went back into place, but she lived another 3 years as healthy as can be. And she knew how much I did to help her. She became so snuggly after that incident and we would take naps together often. To other people she was just a little rodent, but I loved her to death and I was never going to give up on her.

Talking about vets... This is the reason a never gonna have a tortoise. In my cuntry(Brazi) we call then jabuti and is extremely hard having an authorized reptile here, this create a country were the vets don't know nothing about reptiles. Thanks for the video Kenan. Animals are a lot like kids, you can think you're doing it all right and scary situations can happen regardless of how good you think you are. That's life unfortunately. I just took in a tortoise who's left front foot was chewed off by rats. He was hidden waiting to die. Thankfully I have an awesome vet who has an incredible team. They worked hard to save him. They had to remove the protruding bone and debride the necrotic tissue to start. Then it was every other day, back for more debriding. That was the first month. I'd soak him and he just laid there. He barely ate and barely moved. Almost 2 months later and we're going in every fortnight for treatment. And I can no longer do his wound care on my own. He's so strong now. He's at least 47 years old and such a gentle soul. I'm so glad he pulled through. But it's been a lot of work between my vet and me. Today he eats well and splashes in his water bowl. I'm so grateful. ❤❤❤

So true.. finally got a water dragon last year. Was going great, so gave him an upgrade enclosure. He wasn't taking it to well. Just going crazy in it. Some how burned himself on the heat lamp over night and never recovered. Was in the 30s that night so I believe he was upside down hanging close to it for too long. I felt so bad. He was the coolest lizard too. Was his 1st winter and wasn't use to it plus the new enclosure. Idk but I did everything I could to make him happy spending hundreds on him but wasn't enough.

I'm so glad you made this video. I grew up around animals but have been keeping snakes for the last 3 years. Ive baught babys snakes and adults just as pets. Ive run into normal troubles but gotten through them all. Half my collections is rescued pet. I have this 5foot 2 in ball python/normal I love her. nicest snakes in my stock but when i got her an came from a dude that couldnt get her to eat for a few month's. I got her to eat about two weeks after having her. Started with mice Moved up to a small rate. She eat 4 meals with me. I live in Idaho and winter came aroumd she stoped eating. I keep my temps the same all year around. I was thinking cause she older maybe she brumating but summer came she wont eat. Ivd done every thing. Moved her types of cageing. Ive spent a couple hounder dallors on rates and mice trying to get her to eat. I dont know what to do any more. It's going 11 months now with her not eating. She still looks good and sheds in hole. I'm at the point. Were if she dies I feel like its cause she straved to death so I think i need to start force feeding her. I dont wanna feel like she stravedto death.

Kenan i needed this video today. I have been beating myself up for almost a week now... Ive got several reptiles. Turtles, axltols (amphibians) and snakes. I had 2 balls and a wild caught dekays brown snake. My normal ball is doing amazing shes never missed a meal shed or not. So i got the second bp. It was a black friday pet smart ball python. He looked rough. Pretty thin from the start. Thats why i took him. I figured if anyone would be able to help this little guy at least id be the one to try. I took him home. First couple meals he either rejected or was super difficult to get him to eat then bam he was eating. Putting weight on. Doing great. Looking great. Growing. Shedding again. Then hunger strike. 4 freaking months of assist feeding until he started eating again. Started smashing food again and he was back on track. He had finally put on enough weight that i could finally up his prey size. I did so. His body i guess couldnt handle the bigger prey yet and i could tell he was getting constipated. So i started swimming him. Warm water baths every other day or so. Work the poop out. Each time he pooped. So i thought we were on the up and up. Then he started bloating a bit. Im not sure why. I palpated and it almost felt like i could feel the skull of the prey item close to his cloaca.... His body didnt digest his prey properly. Soon after i noticed him bloating. And not bad he just looked a little puffy right around where it seemed the prey item had gotten caught.... His belly turned like dark blue and started turning almost black in that same area. Only thing i can think is he couldnt process the bigger prey and by the time i realized that was what was happening he had all ready started going septic. I came home last week and he was gone... Because of the hunger strike i did more research on ball pythons than i feel like my brain can hold. Bioactive set ups with built in aquifers with a pump that continuously fills their water bowls so the water is always moving and not getting stagnant. Isopods hides humidity where its supposed to be. Heat where its supposed to be... The whole nine. And i know id done everything right and ive still sat here replaying the past year trying to see wgat i could have done differently or better... Your video today helped me a lot... Im not gonna beat myself up anymore because in the end i know I tried everything i possibly could. Sometimes we still lose. So heres to Jax the spider ball python. May he live forever in our hearts but not in our conscience. Thanks Kenan.

Such an important and difficult part of being a pet owner. I grew up on a farmette and having all of those animals and going through those difficult moments is so very challenging now even though I grew up experiencing them all the time. Glad to see that you didn’t get discouraged and advocate for those wonderful, strong, and amazing little creatures. Much love ❤️

This video will save lives. I was travelling once on the old fruit picking trail in Australia. Had a dog called Bedimo that got parvo. Travelled a couple hours to the vet who charged me 90 bucks to tell me he had no chance unless we booked him in for fluids for a couple of nights at 200 bucks a night and that only gave him a 30 percent chance Of survival. I didn't have 400 bucks. On the way back to the caravan park he started seizing and I pulled up to see him off. But he rallied and kept on kicking. When I got back to the caravan park we were staying at a young french girl said her family had an expensive coursing dog once that got parvo. So they force fed it broth to keep its strength up while it shit everywhere constantly and it survived. All of a sudden I had a team of 10 or so legends that volunteered to Jam hydrolyte down his throat for two days while he shit all over them and vomited everywhere. And that old dog lived another 8 years because someone said they heard that doing what we did worked for someone. It gave us hope. To see that even very sick reptiles can come back means a whole lot more people will work for that few percent

I had a nest of rittens at some point. And I did all the research, genetics, nutrition, behaviour of mother and other group members, I checked the cage, setup, substrate multiple times for safety, and got a few new hides. Now one hide had a small window on the side. Turns out one of the rittens managed to get her head trough the window and got stuck. I noticed her struggle, quick and carefully freed her, and brought her outside for some fresh air, but it wasn't enough and she died there in my hands. I felt so sad and guilty for a long time because I felt that I had failed her and she was the first animal I experienced this with. But we learn. And I learned to make even more sure that my animals can't get stuck anywhere, especially baby animals.

This is arguably one of my favourite videos from you and it really is true, sometimes things are out of your hands completely, I do have a eastern hermanns tortoise but tonight it was my hamster that gave me the scare, she managed to pull the metal feeder off her water bottle so the water bottle fell, usually I leave the hamsters in peace for a day or two, they've got lots of food, there's no need (so I thought) to tend to them every day. While in bed I could hear her chewing on the cage, that to me means there's something wrong. That's when I noticed she had no access to water. I fed her water in a new bottle straight away, man she tried to stuff the metal part in her cheek pouch, I checked the water bottle and it turns out that the bottle was defective and wasn't giving her water anyway (hence why she must have been so desperate she pulled the thing off to begin with). That's why you say, learn from your animals, learn their behaviors and by god, check up on your animals. Thanks Kenan!

Absolutely love your channel & all the awesome videos ! It’s great that you share both the good & bad things that can happen. It’s helps all of us to know what we can do in certain situations. As of last night, our yellow belly slider past away. She was about 8in long & we had her for about a year and a half. She seemed to be in good heath. Always hungry lol & swimming around with the fish in our indoor pond. About 2 1/2 wks ago she stopped eating & wasn’t swimming around to well....took her to a reptile vet & had to have x-rays done to find out what was wrong. It wasn’t good at all. Come to find out, that she had been eating the rocks and gravel in the bottom of the pond & her poor little belly was full of them. The vet gave us some medicine that was supposed to heal her stomach and possibly help her to pass the rocks as well. She wasn’t eating or pooping because of all the rocks in her. We spent the last two weeks giving her the medicine every 12 hours and soaking her in warm water. Tried a few different things to help her pass the rocks and was giving her Pedialyte in a syringe in order to keep fluids and electrolytes in her. But no matter what we did nothing seemed to be working. She wasn’t doing well at all the last few days and sadly last night she passed away. The vet had said that he could do surgery but it would be a very difficult surgery to do and he didn’t seem to be too confident about it being too successful. So it was pretty much a waiting game the last couple weeks to see if the medicine was going to work or not. Definitely a sad time the last couple weeks. With your turtle expertise, I was wondering if you had any information or home turtle remedies on this subject. We were doing a lot of research and tried several different things to help her but nothing seemed to work. Any info would be much appreciated ! On a happier note, I Watch all of your videos and I’m glad to see that all of your reptiles are doing well and in good health ! I have a monitor lizard as well.... A savanna and she’s a year and a half old and we’re in the process of building her a 4 x 4 x 2 enclosure. Can’t wait until she goes into her new home ! Pretty excited about that ! I’ve been working with her a lot the last year and a half, she’s super friendly and such a little sweetie !

I love animals. Big and small. I lost my dog in April. He had many health condition.. I had him for 10+ yrs. Was and still is heartbreaking losing him. Last month I lost my beared dragon. He was a rescue. He was not taken care of be4 I got him. I did everything that I could to get him better. But he lost his battle even after everything I did. The both are missed. I have since rescued a pitbull male. And thank God he is doing well. Gaining weight and settling in. He is becoming a good dog.

Hi Kenan. I had a false map turtle for almost 3 years, this summer I bought a outside pond for her to get some natural UV rays. They really helped and made her shed the scutes perfectly. One day I put some new fist in her enclosure and I knew… something was wrong. I felt around but she was gone! Vanished, gone. I live near a huge water that stretches out along 5 apartment buildings. So if she escaped at night, she’s in a good place. Lots of food there. But there is also a chance that she might got stolen because people can’t always be trusted. I miss having her, there are no sightings of her. So a few weeks later I made the decision of getting a new baby turtle. A little tiny Mississippi map turtle. He’s going to live inside for the first year and when he’s big enough I will already fixed the outside enclosure with a sturdy roof and locks so nobody can get in that pond.

Darwin knows, I'm sure. I think we should never underestimate the intelligence of our animals. I have 2 hermann's tortoises that are very messy eaters, so I tend to clean off their heads afterwards, to prevent them getting harassed by ants and such. At a certain point one of them ran under a hedge, came out covered in spiderwebs, looked at me, I cleaned him up, and he was off exploring again. I'd like to think he knew I was there to help... ;)

It's so cute to see them do stuff like that. I've also thaught them to crawl on my hand so I can let them out of their enclosure, so whenever I'm working in there, they're crawling all over my hands and feet. They also follow my dog around when they're out and about. (They trust her alot, even crawl in her lap for warmth) Tortoises make such great pets. :)

I think so too. There is a lot I think we misunderstand or assume in reptiles (not me, but people generally). People often compare their brains to a humans, assuming if a certain part is lacked or different, they are incapable of something we aren’t. However, even with human brains, there is slowly more and more research being established that certain parts of the brain may control and produce more than what we thought. I think this could easily be the case with other animals, as they often prove us incorrectly at what we think they can’t do. I had a crayfish with an undocumented disease I was caring for, who was extremely personable, would even walk out of their paludarium and go sit right next to me or even on me, while we laid on the couch. They’d communicate to me even, by producing bubbling clicking noises, and moving their antennas in various ways. I used hand signals to pair them with actions I’d do, and one of them was later mimicked, hand waving, I’d use it as a greeting if they wanted to come up and interact with me, letting them know I was there and friendly. They would wave to me, stop until I’d wave back, come up and then stand up out of the water and make their little noises. He would get extremely curious about my plants, a hair dryer, hair sprays, etc. and would pound on the glass with his claws until I’d show him them up close, lol! He’d let me hand feed him, would take them out of my fingers with his smaller claws gently. He could even distinguish hand waving from other people, without even having to look at faces, and would react much differently if they weren’t mine. There was so much to the bond we’ve seemed to have built. Unfortunately, he did pass away from the unknown disease they had, which I continually was able to get to go into a seemingly remission, but it finally had come back and within a night, he was gone. But, knowing there was such a strong trust established, that even with medications or treatments I’d have to give him, when I’d have to even transfer him to a temporary tank or hold him, he seemed to understand I was there to help him. It was really difficult to lose him, but I at least had much longer with him than what was suspected by others.

@@PinkBlue_Spood My condolences to losing such a great crayfish, he/she must have had a great life though. I often compare it to communicating to someone of a different language, we flail and make signs to get our thoughts across, and from my experience (with dogs and tortoises, mainly, also some chickens...) They will catch on to those gestures eventually, as we do to theirs. Each situation and environment is different ofcourse, but it's still fascinating to see and hear about... :)
