I've read all of berserk. I still just appreciate the gore in this anime and the old classic art design (genocyber). All Berserk adaptations aren't nearly as gorey and fucked up as the manga. but the story is far far better I agree lol

Dude some of the art from genocyber had me reminiscing about guyver, the US OVA's. I watched them for the first time when I was like 7 or something, shit was terrifying. The MC dies once dude. Now it's mostly nostalgia but honestly, the show had some amazing writing too for the genre. Thanks for the rec's dude, more to add to the list XD

2nd episode was the only episode of violence jack i saw. Twas enough for me, shit was wild and far from making sense. Love old ass anime. I stopped after the third episode of Genocyber. Would have worked better as a gore anthology to showcase art or something.

After devilman, the author really tried to create something to that level and failed lol Check - Riding Bean ova, Ninja school ova, guyver 6 to 12 ep ovas, perfect blue.

I highly disagree. Genocyber is a damn good story but it was trying to do way too much in way too little time. If each part was expanded to one season it would be hands down the best cyberpunk story ever. I mean really think about it. Do you think Vinland Saga would be as good if the entire manga was reduced to a two and half hour five part OVA? Of course it wouldn’t. There’s just way too much going on in Vinland Saga. Same with Genocyber. Of course we don’t get to see it but there is a lot of implied world building and characterization that if we did see would really help the series. For example how the kid “Rat” is some sort of gopher for some gang. Why is he doing that? What about his family? What about the gang itself? Are they connected to the Kuryu Group? What about the police? I think if we got a better idea of just how corrupt Hong Kong is really supposed to be then it would make the ending of the first OVA make more sense. Genocyber is meant to be like a cybernetic deity of retribution but it’s also the collective personified trauma of the psychic twin sisters. The second OVA should spend more time with Elaine/Diane’s new friends before they are mercilessly killed by the helicopter shooting them to mush. And that’s another thing. We need more of Elaine/Diane’s internal struggle for control. I don’t agree that Genocyber is just “nonsense”. Madness? Yes definitely.
