I remember one day coming home from school and my older brother very excitedly wanting to show me Afro Samurai. I watched the first scene and was instantly hooked. To this day I haven't rewatched any piece of media as many times as I have Afro. Truly a masterpiece. You should really give manga a read too as it is drastically different from the anime.

Afro Samurai is definitely one of my favorites. Primarily because of its homage to black, street, east coast hiphop culture. Which is many of the subcultures within black culture. It would be dope to see some respectful references and celebration of other aspects within black culture in future anime. Hoping for more.

Couldn't agree more, there's so many aspects of black culture that would make for some dope ideas in anime. I'm surprised we haven't been getting more nowadays.

i just can’t get enough of the afro series especially since i can relate to him i wish they would come back and make a part 3 or something the fact that this anime pulled this off in 2007-2009. I can only wonder the success this can bring now with how big anime is and how black culture is. Like think about RDCworld1 a diverse but mostly black group and they are into anime this is becoming the norm more and more getting black people and just people in general involved in anime. I just wish they would give it another try but don’t mess it up. Like throw in another good sound track maybe edge off of the father focus and just change the route a bit. it’s a original anime so they have no strict rules to follow so they can literally do anything they want. it’s like so much high potential they aren’t using.

Interesting video and I loved Afro Samurai, going to rewatch it soon. The lack of appearances in anime is a direct result of it being Japanese and not having many people of color there, but also their love for “White Hollywood” and Europe. Oh, great shoutout to Samurai Champloo too !!!

Man, Yusuke ended up sucking, though. They just took a bunch of anime cliches and followed that little white girl he was watching aftet more than him. The actual historical figure who had a real life story that would have been interesting to see, but they preferred making it like every other anime only a quarter as interesting.
