Back in the day, the suede shoes got those white edges when from age. The edges were darker but the older the shoe became, the lighter the edges were. So the kinda put a vintage vibe on this one without yellowing the soles. It’s the perfect touch for the reimagined series.

@ no one said Nike did white edges dude. The edges were generally lighter than the shoe itself and the more the shoe aged, the lighter the edges got. , causing the edges to look white. Some of you are too smart for your own good. If you didn’t come up when they made similar shoes, just find photos of old worn shoes online. There are photos of OG Jordans everywhere.

I was 12 in 1990, yes I'm old. I had white/red 5's but I had lots of friends with black metallics. These reimages look like the edges of the panels are PAINTED white. 1990 OG's black panels did have contrast around the edges but it was from the unpainted backing of the leather itself, no paint. Those OG lines did become more noticeable as you wore them. The OG toe boxes were closer to being flat, search up 1990 ads for AJ5's if you want to see for yourself. I do like the newer more square top toe box, I think it looks more finished & clean. I own several versions of Retro 5's & the reflective material on the tongues is way too thicc & stiff like there is a layer on top of the material that is reflective & can be scratched off. The OG material was more like a medium weight nylon fine thread that was itself reflective. The new versions seems like they're bright most of the time but the OG's were closer to a medium to dark gray in low light. The shine from both versions are similar though. I love almost everything about these reimages & can't wait to pick these up.

I was lucky enough to have these when they first were released, back in the 8th grade. My boy bought the black tounge version and my cousin bought the fire red. As a kid back then they felt like ordinary shoes, nothing special. I had them up until 1995, I joined the military and my brother decided he needed some kush and sold all of my J's I had and clothes. That was a very bad year, I didn't talk to my brother until 3 years later. The black was all black and as they aged you could see the so called white edges more.

1. jordan only wore white laces one time in the playoffs(to match the team accessories(white)). 2 the edges were black brand new but technology at the time couldn't roll edges so as time went on it were exposed the raw materials. the black metallic 5 were pretty much made as the nike lite flight mid that released. if you look at them now they have the grey lines

The OG 5 blk mettalic from 1990 did have white edges, just not as white. The retro from 2000 and the 07 5s had white edges.

Love the eggplant color on the Kobes....but the gold snake ruins it for me.
