I totally fail to see anything wrong with any of them. They all appear to be perfectly funtional trams, providing transportation from point A to point B with minimal drama. Yes, a KTM-5 isn't the pinnacle of 21st-century tram design. It can't be as it was designed in the 60s of 20th century. But it still gets the job done, every day. And if it doesn't, for some reason, a hammer is usually all that is needed to fix it.

The livery on the Lille trams looks better than the grey they had previously. Whilst the front looks a bit odd (and I can't quite work out why I find it so) the windows are lovely and big. The ones in Paris are quite nice! And the Manchester ones are fine; certainly useful if I go to the heritage railway in Busy or the Heaton Park Tramway. As a few people have said, many are a product of their time. And some look the way they do because there are safety regulations, etc to be adhered to :)

And the most elegant in France is, in my opinion, the Tours one : sleek, shiny metal and piano black cars. Some of the tracks are surrounded by immaculate lawn, in the french fashion, so much favored by streetcar system planners (why? it's utterly costly). If you watch video about it, you think of a golf club cart riding among golf courses… Very classy, judging by the surroundings that are not so much

I'm completely agree with the mention of the greater Manchester tram being ugly. I'm very proud of my city being in the north of England, but iv always sed they are ugly. The model 1 before these newer yellow trams where even worse . I believe they where built in Italy, which is a same we couldn't build them ourself, as we have a sea side town not far from here that has kept the original trams from when trams 1st started. The m/cr trams look too much like a train, which is why they had to build high platforms for the tram stops. Manchester 1st started the tram craze in the UK, but looking at other cities in the UK they are alot nicer to look at and alot lower. The cost for new tram lines is unbelievable. I bet they are easy run at the highest in the country. I wouldn't mind but newly all the routes and main roads in the greater Manchester area still have original trams lines buried under 6 inches of new tarmac complete with the original cobbles??? Go figure!! If they dug up the tarmac, they would find 100s of routes that would reach 100 times more places and easy access to more of the population and to the people who would benefit the most rather very limited developed areas.

The first Manchester trams ran from Altrincham to Bury on old rail lines, they needed to be tall to save the cost of rebuilding the old train stations. Plus, Blackpool has replaced all its old rolling stock with new trams which were specially designed for them, as the old lines have too many tight corners to negotiate. The end result is a two car tram with five bendy sections and they look weird.

And… you’re wrong. We don’t live in modernism ages anymore where things had to be useful rather that pretty. Right now if You want to make a customer to use your services you need to make your fleet look good and blend in with surroundings as most people choose things with their sight. That’s how things work in XXI century.

I personally think the norristown high speed line trains are ugly. On this list, the one from Russia was the ugliest. I also think the type 8's are fine from Boston - I respect type 7 slander, but the 8's are nice and feel very roomy!

Kudos to all of them. I'm from Cincinnati which has only within the past several years completed 3.6 miles or 5.2 km of light rail after an absence of 60+ years of having none since they dismantled the old trolleys.

I think trams are useful, egalitarian & a great investment. I note that my experiences with trams, streetcars & LR are they're well used in many countries (I never got on one in Toronto that wasn't crowded) but not so much in the US. I remember reading years ago the Swiss president took a tram to work. What ugliness I saw here was so much trash in Buenos Aires & the dilapidated buildings in Philadelphia. I always enjoyed my trips to Philly but there was always a building collapse in the news too. Time to spend some money on the US. Buildings, bridges, streets, rail, power grids, etc all need urgent attention here. We're promoting electric vehicles but let's face it, you must have reliable supply to power EVs.

You have forgotten the really worst tram companies, these are in the former Soviet republics, like Kachastan. Endless rail breaks, dented tram cars with missing window panes, often only poorly repaired, often the drivers have to pull off the bracket so that the contact wire does not tear, ...

Well, the first generation of low floor trams range pretty high on the ugly list: Not just the TFS2 or those things from Lille, but also the Socimi trams of Rome, the RT6N of CKD Praha or the MAN/AEG-GT6M of Augsburg (whilst the standard gauge version looks decent, the metre gauge version has really ugly bumpers). They were experimenting a lot back then, since it was a new technology. Also, you don't seem to like angular tram models ;-)

Manchester’s Metrolink is to represent the bee which is Manchester’s symbol, it’s called the worker bee, after the 2017 bomb the bee became even more of a symbol and signature of the Manchester People because of how fast we all came together to work together to rebuild and care for each other.
