I am a white girl from Oregon and have kind of noticed a 'reverse Great Migration' trend from the Northeast and Midwest back to the Southeast, between big cities not holding the appeal they once had, and the taxes and weather. I have family in both Illinois and Ohio and the Ohio ones at least have acknowledged there is some racism still going on in the smaller white towns. Here in western Oregon, it is not so much racism as it is just being one of the most non-black regions in the country (we do have a huge Hispanic segment though, and there are as many Asians as blacks). Part of that lies in history, of Oregon banning black citizenship until the 1920s. That said, before the pandemic I had eaten at a couple black-owned soul food places in Portland a few times in 2019/20 and thoroughly enjoyed myself and their company. One of those places' owner passed away this week, he was the uncle of the one and only... Snoop Doggy Dogg. To my black fellow humans making a relocation for the reasons stated in this video, I wish you the best; may we be good and beautiful and full of love and thoughts and songs of love. Aww. ❤️ I am looking at moving to New Mexico(southern Colorado in a pinch) myself.

There are way more states than those five that are bad for Blacks. The Midwest is really notorious for racism more so than the southern states which was believed for years! I’ve been in many of the Southern States and the white people there were very polite and nice. I cannot say the same for the Midwestern states. I’m in Michigan now and I have never experienced racism head on like be called out of my name or challenged or any of that. But I have heard stories from friends of mine who has. Certain parts of Michigan is like that, especially going close to the northern part. They may not be as brazen as some of the post I see on Social Media, but; you can feel the tension in certain areas here in Michigan and the rudeness is real!

And looking at your lists it’s amazing how many whites move from the states you mentioned Minnesota and Wisconsin and a lot have horrible attitude but with the natives we don’t play dat , often they stay far away from us natives . My question why you move here in the first place, same plane you came on and take you back ! Looking at the percentages it tells me the fact of the racial inequality because we got a lot of poor whites too . I wish more blacks would move Hawaii . We have a small community , but the history of blacks in politics is amazing. In Connecticut, if you have a good education and a six-figure income, you may do well in the "big cities" and suburbs. It's a competitive state where higher education and financial savvy, regardless of color, matter a lot. People of all ethnicities who aren't up to date struggle to stay afloat in such an environment. CT is probably similar to any other state in terms of attitudes. Get a good education, be clean-cut, be a go-getter, and then give the state a try.

Many people from the North were probably surprised that Mississippi and Alabama were not on this list. I was not surprised. I still might have thought that had I not moved to Huntsville, Alabama. I am a white person who grew uo in eastern Kansas. I might have still had this misconceived stereotype about Northern whites being benevolent and Southern whites being bigoted had I not moved to Huntsville.

I agree they do make all Southern racists. But they didn't stop tge majority of Black people in the South who own property and houses. These states named have always been segregated, but are not talked about. Its always the South. In the south a Black family can buy a house anywhere they choose if they can afford it. Not so in the North.

We lived in Bellevue 74-76 and Omaha 84-90 and thought it was in the top two best places we lived. I assume NE should have made the list because the same reasons the briefer stated. We have been spoiled by working for USAF and DoD for a combined 55 years. We always had a support base were we moved to and still have some support. I am from rural VA, 70 miles southwest of Richmond. My wife is from LA Grange, GA, 65 miles south of Atlanta. Besides living in NE, we lived in OH, DE, and GA (23 years). I spent 4.6 years in NC. Overseas, we lived in Greece, Belgium, and Germany (2). I lived in Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan, and Ukraine. I think being a part of the military, working for DoD, and the Veterans Administration (VA) must be a secret for most blacks. Guess where the top two places where our tax dollars are allocated, DoD and the VA.

No windows and drop ceilings in the back. When I asked the owner (an Asian woman) why she separated everyone on the basis of race, she said it was " because her white customers didn’t like the smell of black haircare products". Not only are you not getting my money, I'm never coming back to this state. Ehy the whole state, you ask? Because the black people took that crap like that's how it's supposed to be. It's not a racist country and it is not getting worse. You are being told that, but facts and figures say otherwise. Don't forget that there are many successful blacks in all levels of business and politics. Of course there are a percentage of people who are racist, but doubt it is any different than the percentage of blacks that are racist. This video does not do a deep dive into facts. They used states that are big agricultural producers. If you are not part of a legacy farm conglomerate, your options are small for a great paying job unless you have a marketable degree. That is for anyone. Plus, SD and Iowa have small demographic of blacks, and doubt if many farm. This video does not tell the entire story.

Thanks for sharing. Does the HBCU regions change the narrative? I believe there needs to be an greater assessment of the entire African American community in All 50 states in the areas of education, jobs, and housing, because each one of these effects the other. There are generational differences as well some states where blacks have done well before 1930, by 1950 their children or the next generations lived in generational poverty. Progress is never guaranteed based on where you live, but must be intentional efforts by each generation. Finally there are differences between descendants of American slaves and other blacks or people of color. Lumping everyone together causes disenfranchisement and does not give a True assessment. Also, some black skin ppl are indigenous ppl of America who have ancestors who have NEVER been on slave ships. In addition, Africa is a continent of different nations and tribes like Europe. During slavery ppl joined as Alliance for survival. Unless slavery still exist there is no need to join, we are FREE to find our own tribes. Descendants of American slaves and Native Americans must advocate for an assessment in education, jobs, and housing to determine if the progress of our forbears has been lost through the generations. This should be in all 50 states.
