There's a weird confluence of worlds when you are both a tech guy and watch guy and you're watching this from both perspectives. When Michael said that the Garmin was expensive, my watch brain was expecting something like 10k. Oh okay, less than an Oris Aquis. But my tech brain is like... no smart watch is worth that much, that's the price of a laptop.
@harveyezihe5 жыл бұрын
Lol. I understand the confusion 😂
@birtalanlorant55725 жыл бұрын
Yep. I thought the same. "Expensive? By watch measures that's 5k on the lower end and everything above. In tech? 800$ and above." When I heard the pricetag (it's a cool watch tbh, looks like a Tag Heuer Calibre 16), my jaw just dropped. For 1500$ you can get an Oris Aquis Date, and for the 300$ remaining you can get that ticwatch pro 4g.

Garmin its nice and still rocking F3HRS but Marq series its obsolete for me not because the price but for total separation of capabilities. Internally are these watches are same but you dont have same functionality by software and you cant download these specific applications. Garmin watches was always for active people and its now useless if i do paragliding and week later yachting and month later week in wild. Also that comparison its lite unfair for Garmin because you compare absolute top from Garmin. You could compare Fenix 5 plus and which cost around 600usd and will left Casio and China in dust.

If the MARQ Captain is too pricey, check out the Quatics. Honestly, Garmin has a wide range of watches at various price points. This is definitely on the high-end, but was designed to be that way. The resolution is low to improve battery life. The features and gorgeous design are where the price comes in. The Hauwei GT is the sweet spot though.

Just be careful. I have a friend that had his Fitbit watch die twice on him in just over a year, and apparently replacements don't reset the warranty clock so they wouldn't help him the second time it happened. Pissed him off so much he switched to Garmin.
@Spills515 жыл бұрын
As with the other response post I would recommend getting the extended warranty from squaresoft (I believe its $40 if you get it initially, 50 if within a month) so instead of a 1 year warranty you get a 2 year. Unless you tend to flip fitness trackers every year or so. The Versa is a decent watch for fitness, not so much as a smartwatch. Get is on sale for $170 or so...But I wouldn't pay $200 cause there is always someplace that is running a sale for them. I had the Versa but then returned it for the Ionic cause it was on sale for $200. Again, decent Fitness Tracker, decent build, not a great smartwatch.

My partner loves her Garmin D2 Charlie aviator watch. She uses it all the time to track her flights with complete precision, and uses the track with CloudAhoy and FlightAware to plot the trip so she can review it with her instrument rating instructor. It's a great watch and cost less than HALF what the Captain cost you. I'm still muddling along with my Ticwatch Pro. The only thing I don't like about it isn't Mobvoi's fault -- Google stopped supporting the Hangouts app, so I can't see my chat history past February 19th. And I haven't figured out how to replace Hangouts on the bottom button with some other app they DO support. Annoying.

@@TheMrMobile And just a heads-up on my favorite Ticwatch Pro app -- StayLit Wear. The biggest issue I had with the two-layer screen was that you couldn't change the length of time the OLED screen would be visible before it would switch to the low-power LCD. But StayLit Wear lets you change the length of time before the LCD is activated! Instead of the default 5 seconds, I have it currently set to 15 seconds! It doesn't hit the battery too hard, and I can read all of those intricate little details on some of my watchfaces, including the Google Maps navigation watchface. Most useful app I have for the TicWatch Pro. (I don't have any relationship with the company, and I bought my own copy.)
