Garlic has long been known in the aquarium world as an appetite stimulant for fish. It's often used when you get a fish that doesn't want to eat anything, you give it garlic infused foods and most of the time, it'll start eating.

Keitech for sure. When the Bass Pro by me started to carry it, I literally walked through the aisle without seeing them and said “I know that smell” and there they were. The 3.3 and 4.3 are such confidence baits for me too so I was pumped

Anything slow moving, i.e TR worm etc. is Power Bait. Taught a bunch people to fish TR and I do believe once they bite it they don't let go easily. I'd get a bite, hand rod over to the person and have them lean back lightly until they felt the tap, then watch the line move away. Great with the little guys (and girls). Want to try the gambler line this year. I do think anything masking my scent is surely not hurting anything. Fun video topic.

I worked for Chompers when they were man. in Newton IA. the garlic scent was in a 55 gal drum and sprayed into the bag when packaged and then dbl sealed so the ordor wouldn't permeate as much. The grubs were poured and the "skirts" were poured then they would be heated up and melted together on the assemble line with 2 skillet heating elements clamped opposite of each other in a vice. It has always interested me how the man. process is on almost anything. Good story Matt

Talk about your scents! Couldn't believe it but about 3/4 of the way through the video an ad popped up for "stuck poop"/constipation and some doctor's "7 minute remedy." Nearly fell out of the chair laughing. Picked up an inexpensive divided Flambeau plastics box (Super Half Satchel) that does a good job of keeping the smells in. Kept the Ms. in the dark all winter while I was stocking up on your recommendations.

I am 51 and still use power worms to this day I love the smell of Powerbait even the trout dough. The first thing I do is smell when I open them up takes me back when I was a kid also.

The Powerbait purple power worm- nailed a 4lb 12 oz large mouth bass at a small lake that seems not to have fish. I have alot of Berkley lures in my arsenal. Stike King Rage tail- just bought a pack of pumpkin seed green to match with Greg Hackney swim jigs. Thank you for the video

Power team lures hog tonic. They sell in a spray bottle but also include capsules in each bag of lures that you break open in the bag the night before and the smell is the strongest smelling garlicky mixed with something else. You will smell it for days after using this sent or their lures.

Like you said, I think at the minimum it helps reduce your various scents on your baits. Growing up with a fly rod walking creeks I was continually cleaning my hands to keep all the hand/line scents down. Ultimately, whatever brings you confidence and the bite!

Id say chompers is the most obnoxious scents. I had a bunch of baits given to me when I really got into the sport more than 10 years ago, and I had to gove them away. That person opened them at the other end of the boat, and told them not to use them. 😆

I agree with you Matt on the bait scents especially coffee. I think biggest reason for scents is covering foreign smells ( gasoline sunscreen human) but my personal preference is bait fuel. I use it exclusively now even over top baits with their own scent. And it doesn’t smell nor stain. I was tossing the bronze slammer on the Wisconsin river in a location my partner was catching smallies keitech swim bait. 6 casts no bites. Put bait fuel in the hair of slammer and got 5 bites in 5 casts landing 4 bass 14-17” on a moving hard bait.

Overall I’m not completely sold on scent however I will say I tend to catch more fish on plastics that have anise scent on their baits like missile baits and big bite baits

I finally started catching some fish on my hover rigs! I tried so many baits and so many presentations and so many retrieves and could not get a bite and if I did get a bite which was maybe once in a day, they would come off instantly.. I finally started getting decent fish and a couple good ones using a full-size Beaver bait Rock hopping down not super deep water or in very shallow water just barely hopping it really slowly and small and just barely tugging it over branches or tree limbs. I desperately need more baits and retrieves that I can use this with because I love this thing and it looks so good that I can't believe I haven't been catching more on it until now with only one presentation and bait. If anyone else has found something can you please share it with me so I can try it? I have bought literally dozens of different things to put on it and I'm not through them all yet but so far this has been in my result and it's good with the rage Beaver from Strike King

Berkley Power baits & MaxScent, Keitech baits, Googan (Slaunch Sauce) are my top producers!!! My experience has been the fish hold on to it a lot longer than without any sent!

Sam parr beat me and the wife. Lot of short strikes but nothing in live well. Water was like chocolate milk. High bag for day was 13.4 with big fish being 6.8 lbs. Thanks again for al the teaching.

Best smelling soft plastic of all time is the Manns Jelly Worm in Blueberry that they made in the 1980"s. I have no idea if the ones they make now smell like that but I am telling you they smelled like candy. The grape one was nice as well. Worst smelling ever is the Berkley Neons formula. That stuff was just awful. Smelled like a mix of power bait and cat s***! I dont think they even make that one anymore. All time most effective scent goes to Power Bait and it aint even close. Honorable mention goes to Googan. Thier scent reminds me of the old Fish Formula from the 80's and 90's. Really like that scent alot.

I think most soft plastics today have some sort of sent in them. At the very least they have salt in them. I own several different types of gambler Baits and they work great but they reek to high heaven. Like somebody else said I keep mine in the boat in the garage all winter but I don't dare put it in one of the compartments.

Hi Matt big fan I work in IT not sure if you have an iphone or android. If you are lucky and have an android phone if you use the lens app ot will translate any language so you can read it. I buy Japanese lures and that's how I read the instructions. Love the channel my wife and I have learned so much. 😊

I like the Strike King coffee scent for sure. The anise scent is a favorite from my youth, not sure what bait it was though. I have a craw style bait called the Warax from Biwaa Fishing, it has a shrimp logo on the package... it does smell fishy for sure with a little stinky feet smell added!!🤭😅 I did catch a few on it😎

The two strongest and most off putting scents I know of are keitech and the garlic scented pro cure. My favorite smelling baits are strike king,googan,and I actually like the smell of missile baits. It has this sort of confidence smell to it. Like powerbait does. You just know it works!

@@MattStefanFishing I can see that. I still think the squid scent is just putrid. Maybe not the strongest scent but for me it’s pretty rough. Any of the berkley gulp is pretty stinky too. I left a bottle of the gulp spray in my car overnight and the next morning it smelled like a pile of dead crawfish that cooked in the sun for a few days. 🤮

If you want to wake me in the morning wave a Strike King coffee bait around my nose. I understand the allure of the scent. Power Bait is standard on the boat, but my buddy likes his garlic. Discontinued stinky bait was the Mister Twister Exude soft plastics. Very bad. Worst spray scent was the Mustad UltraBite. Both these scents have a very disgusting organic smell.

The guys from Salt Strong say that some fish's sense of smell is 10,000 times more sensitive than a dog's. Their research is about saltwater fish but freshwater fish must have a good sense of smell too. Obviously catfish use smell a lot. It would be interesting to know how well bass can really smell.

If you haven't thrown @broussard_troy's soft plastics you don't know stink. Outstanding fish catchers. Leave one on your rod in your garage and you won't be able to use the garage for a week. Throw a Berkley PowerBait Gilly in a tank of water then throw in one of T-Roy's Stinko's, trick worms or beavers and the Gilly will swim to the others to try and eat them! Nothing stinks or draws more fish to they do.
